Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

I'm hoping we're not going to be here long, but in the event that we are, would anyone else want to pitch in and combine skills and resources to make staying on this island less
annoying? I'm used to living rough and on the run so this isn't all that different for me but that's probably not the case for everyone

I don’t think all of us can fit on that skyskimmer! We’re all kind of in the dark about what’s going on here, so maybe we should investigate more before trying to leave.

[Tomestones.]
[Well, first things first: rocks and sticks. After collecting a small handful of each, she rather threw herself into crafting in a highly specific way--in other words, 'making two spare flimsy axes to put on her belt'. It wasn't a weapon she had experience in, but it just felt wrong not to have something.]
[All that took until about mid-afternoon, and with no real sign of stopping she turned instead to a task unfortunately familiar: 'hit rocks until something falls out'. Axe, pickaxe, how different were they really? Taking a crack at one or two rocks seemed like a good start.]

... A lot of clay. Seven units of it from one, and nine from the other. On the other hand, she also gets three iron nuggets from the first rock!
I'm sorry this is so much clay.]

During the afternoon, she'll be either sitting by her tent and enjoying some really delicious apples, or by the airport just trying to figure out what's in the building to see.
And in the evening she'll be at the beach, trying to catch fish, and failing.]

If anyone is interested in learning, Kairi will invite them down by the beach. She can show them how to prepare the spears and then fish with them. She stands about knee deep in the water, waiting patiently with a spear in hand. Then- ]
Ha-!!
[ Kaire stabs down quickly and then pulls out the spear with a fish on the end. She seems really pleased with herself as she adds it to a small pile she has going by a fire on the beach. ]
Oh hey do you know how to cook these? I can cook them over the flames, but I bet you can make them tastier!

What to do with these apples? Well, he candies them. Refining some twigs clean, he uses them like a skewer. Get your own candied apple, more like he'll give them to anyone passing by since he wants them gone. Anyone is free to give him ingredients and he'll make a random dish with it. No, you cannot request a dish.
After he's done with cooking, he can be found organizing seeds for gardening. If you're nearby, he'll ask if you have any vegetables you aren't going to use. ]

EMPORIO
[Emporio, through the morning announcements, is as quiet as he was the night before. He very patiently waits for everyone to go up and grab what they need, mentally making note of various important bits and things. The currency is an especially interesting one as...apparently it won't be that hard to get? There's probably some conversion matters playing in. As it stands-
He pauses by the tools, before moving past them. Instead he goes right for the knapsack, and fishes out the cards and nookphone within. It doesn't take too long to figure out how to get the cards uploaded- if Nook's watching, maybe he's a little pleased about that- and from there, the boy...disappears.
At various points Early the first Morning, Emporio can be seen shaking a few trees, gathering sticks. Not long after, and he's at the DIY table. One...two... ....four...five...]
Oh- ! I think...I made a net?
[Certainly easier than he expected!]
