Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

He's making flower crowns of various quality while glancing over at the cast fishing line every now and then. Come fish with him? Fetch some more flowers for him? Go wild. ]
no subject
That looks really pretty! How did you do it?
no subject
It's just a lot of stem braiding. It would probably be easier if I had wires, but it's all natural here. Do you want to try?
no subject
[She looks at the flowers and then looks around.]
You need more flowers, don't you?
no subject
I'd be happy to teach you, but yeah. I do need more flowers. Could you come back with some?
no subject
[She bounces up and down as she goes looking for flowers. She finds as many as she can carry and then goes back to where Laurent is.]
Is this enough?
no subject
[ He smiles at her and gestures to sit next to him again. The fishing rod that has its line cast is positioned a little differently compared to when she came over the first time.
In any case, Laurent puts the flowers Sonico picked into a watering can. There are two--one that holds the flowers and another... well. It has fish that he caught. ]
You can pick three of them, though we don't have much choice with color. Put them closely together and start braiding the stems.

Could you teach me?!
[Does she not know how to fish in spite of living in the coastal city? Looks like that isn't the case, probably.]
no subject
[ They're all flimsy things. He puts making a flower crown on hold so that he can teach Iori properly. He used to go fishing with his uncle before, and he remembers a lot... thanks, uncle. Your teachings will be useful here on a deserted island.
And here, Laurent will tell Iori the important functions of the fishing rod and how to cast a line out. ]
Wanna try it out?
no subject
Okay, I think I got it. Let's give it a shot!
no subject
Do your best.
[ He rarely raises his voice, so this is the highest volume of a cheer she'll get from him. ]
no subject
[What her best is, however is... actually not that bad, as she seems to learn and pick up on things rather quickly.]
no subject
You did well. The timing for reeling the line in is when the end of the fishing rod bends more than a second. It might occasionally dip, but don't let that fool you.

Mainly because he made a beeline from the airport and severely miscalculated how much sand he would have to trudge through to get to Laurent, instead of taking the longer but easier way around on the grass. ]
I need... more apples...
[ The dozen he received from Laurent the day before are all gone off his horns. ]
no subject
What happened to you...? Actually, come sit here first.
[ Laurent gestures to the space next to him after clearing out the flower crowns of various qualities, some flowers in a watering can, and another watering can that occasionally moves. ]
no subject
[ Nothing worth sharing, anyways, that takes precedent over the apples Laurent isn't handing over. He complies, though, plopping down next to him and
makes a face at that shaking watering can. He peers inside, expecting bugs or fish or tanuki. ]
no subject
[ Laurent quietly sighs and brushes some sand off Minato. He wishes he had a towel, but he does have an apple, so he turns a little and when facing Minato again, he has an apple in his hand. Maybe it'll forever be a mystery...
When Minato looks into the watering can, he'll see several small, common fish in there. ]
Did you really eat all the apples I gave you yesterday?
no subject
[ He doesn't plan to eat this one either, taking the apple and skewering it on his left horn before holding his hand out for another. ]
Did you catch all this? With the apples?
no subject
No, I used grasshoppers as bait. I'm not giving you another apple until you finish the ones I gave you.

[ Since Yoo Joonghyuk is busy cooking and looking angry every time he tries to get near he decides he can do something else in the meanwhile. Looks like they both have the same thought, given he too has a fishing pole in hand. ]
no subject
[ Laurent clears some things to make room for Dokja. It's not much but there are flowers, flower crowns, watering cans, a knapsack, and several fishing rods. It's a bit messy, but it is clean enough for the other person to sit.. Have a seat next to him, reader. ]
I'm glad to see that you're doing well.
[ Considering your... bodyguard? Not boyfriend? Something??? Is always on his tail. ]
no subject
Ah, well enough. [ To which he says with a smile, even if he has some dark circles under his eyes but it's fine. He can't escape his so-called "bodyguard's" gaze unless you want him stomping over looking for him so technically still on his tail. ] How about you? You seem to be keeping yourself busy.
no subject
They say boredom is a poison to the mind, so keeping myself busy is a good way to pass time. Did you do anything lately?
no subject
I can relate to that. [ Of course, he would keep himself busy with a specific novel. ] Helped my companion with carrying some logs and apples over. He's working on cooking right now. Candied apples and or cinnamon apple omelette, in case you're hungry.
[ And whoosh! There goes his line. Now to await RNG's choice on what fish he manages to (hopefully) successfully catch. ]
no subject
[ Jail guy's a cook. Fascinating.
Laurent is usually lucky, but he's been having a lot of time in between his catches today. Maybe it's a sign to take it easy. ]
