Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

It's coming together nicely. Alright, let's fish now.
[ Laurent puts his own flower crown aside and grabs a fishing rod to hand it over to her. He explains what each parts are for and what functions they have in the most basic, simplest way without trying to overwhelm her. ]
Should I repeat that or do you got it?
no subject
I got it! So, I just throw this part into the water?
no subject
[ Laurent gives himself some space between him and Sonico and demonstrates casting a line into the ocean. ]
no subject
Oh!
[It lands on the water with a 'splish' and Sonico watches, amazed. She looks at Laurent, smiling from ear to ear, excited.]
Now we wait?
no subject
[ --put a bait. Laurent is cut off when there's a bite immediately on Sonico's line. ]
Neved mind.. Reel it in quickly, but try to stay calm.
no subject
[She does as told, and tries to quickly reel it in. It's a lot more work that she thought it'd be for sure.]
I got it!
[She got a Sea bass!]
no subject
Alright, you'll want to hold the fish here while you take the hook out. Then you usually toss them into a bucket filled with some water. Though, I only have watering cans for that.
[ Laurent demonstrates again and puts the sea bass into the watering can once Sonico is done looking at it. ]
no subject
[She's pretty proud of herself!
And then she remembers something important!]
Oh! I haven't introduced myself! I'm Sonico! Thanks for teaching me amazing things!
no subject
[ He also hands the watering can with the sea bass to her. ]
It's yours. You should probably ask a cook to make a nice meal for you.
no subject
I shall do that! Oh~!
[She bends down and picks up the flower crown, it's a bit crooked, but she's proud of it.]
Here, for you.
no subject
Thanks.
[ He'll put it on too. Who cares if it's crooked?! ]
I'll see you later then?
no subject
[She's so happy that he put it on.]
Thank you so much, Laurent! See ya!
