Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

I got a really pretty necklace in the mail yesterday, and I think it might belong to someone else! I think they might've sent it to the wrong person.
It's gold, and it has little round parts that go around the necklace. If it belongs to you, please let me know!
Thank you! (V●ᴥ●V)
[ She'd take a picture of the necklace, but... y'know. How do you even do that. ]

So, while he can be found mining for a bit, he looks pretty tired and the dark circles are even more apparent now. Is this man even sleeping? Probably not. But he seems kinda use to it.
Otherwise, he can be found near tent two which people there should know that Dokja has been staying there both Monday night and Tuesday night instead of his actual tent assignment tent 11. He might do some more fishing as well later on but can be found trying to figure out what to do with the... squid he caught on Tuesday. ]

[ Minato walks up quietly while Dokja is fishing, watching him out of the corner of his eyes earlier but deciding he didn't want to approach while Dojka is swinging around a sharp, dangerous weapon, just in case he's still sour about Minato offering up his tent the other day. ]
You're still alive.

X marks the spot oh ye mods
[Or maybe you've spotted him trying to get away with a bottle -- despite the really, really big wasp chasing him with oddly an oddly possessive attitude. WHY DOESN'T HE HAVE A BLADE?!]

In the bottle is something he can figure out, though! A fresh new recipe for a wooden-block bookshelf!]

Finally, after staring at it for a while, he brushes one of the buttons on the side of the phone and activates the screen. When it lights up, he lets out a yelp, tosses it and scrambles backwards as if he's afraid it's about to explode.]

...Or one of those kids could be treating the phone like dynamite, sure. There's a good excuse to initiate conversation despite being a weird (barely-)adult man!]
C'mon, kid, you're gonna break it. You got that one for free, but that shit can be expensive to replace.

You look normal... I can't hear you, but if you can hear me, sorry about this. You were too close to the cosmos. I'll try to keep a place for you to keep your natural space...
[He'll be trying to make good on that promise, laying out splintered tools around his tent, tent five, and using them as a crude plot marker for more carefully-gathered weeds to grow.]
Need a "do not pick" sign... Or "pwease no steppy"...
[His tent isn't far from the river, so he ends up rolling his pants up and letting his legs dangle into the water while he fusses about with the flimsy rod. Doesn't have anything to show for his efforts except for a hint of red burning into the dark skin of his neck and shoulders, and a mouth full of curses. Help...]

Hm... we probably should see if we can move some of the weeds to better parts of the island instead of selling them all, shouldn’t we...? It’s better to have a variety of plant life around, I think.
