Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

The many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics...

[ He has not had enough sleep to have the brainpower to think about physics, thanks. ]

In terms of sheer numbers, then yeah... it's pretty much impossible for anybody to be from the same world.

[ You're welcome, Minato. ]

Basically. But that's being very technical. [ Ah, a bite! He reels up... a betta fish. It's cute? He puts into a water can as he continues on. ] What was your world like?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He claps for the catch, quiet and barely heard over the surf, but congratulatory nonetheless. ]

It's very... uh. Big. Lots of water. Overcrowded cities. No dinosaurs. What's yours like?

[ No dinosaurs? That is so oddly specific. ]

It was a world leading into an apocalypse. Events called "Scenarios" were always running, allowing people to gain abilities and sponsors to stay alive. It was an almost endless entertainment for higher up beings that watched and looked down on us. [ He's done fishing for now, looking to both the squid and betta catch. ] So a lot of the world was destroyed.

[ There's obviously specific details missing but this is fine. ]

[ Dinosaurs are a very real regret, okay. ]

Uh.

[ What! does he even say! about any of this!! ]

That sounds... tough. You must be pretty strong to survive that.

[ If only it was as simple as "no dinosaurs" except there are large monsters and beasts and dragons and.. well. He can't, basically. ]

Even children were forced to kill to live. It was a harsh world to live in. [ Ah, did that make things awkward? OOPS. Sorry Minato, that was a lot of information very fast. ] Things are better now, at least they were going to be before I showed up here.

Maybe this vacation here suggests in a way we all needed it? [ He's just shooting out theories again. ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't need a vacation. But we were on the cusp of the apocalypse too. Serval says it already happened, where she lived. Humanity got roasted, but not everybody died. Maybe the multiverse has something to do with that?

[ He's grasping at straws, he knows, but what common threads he can find amongst people here is basically: humanity has no chance. ]

That is definitely a good amount of people with that kind of connection.

[ It's. Actually kinda worrying. This isn't going to be a 'vacation with a Twist' is it? ] Well, there's probably no use worrying over it now. So far we just have to keep an eye out on what's happening.

[ Speaking of what's been happening.. he remembers the amount of apples Minato had previously. ] You should make sure to eat properly, by the way. Only apples isn't a good diet to have.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ If the apocalypse doesn't kill Minato, his diet sure will. ]

Oh- no, you don't have to worry about me. I've been eating more than just apples. Like bugs, and stuff.

[ Minato.... ]

I hope you've at least been cooking them. [ Still. ] I may not approve of offering your tent to that guy's intentions of jailing me, but since you did offer you can ask him to cook anything you get your hands on. It's the least he can do to repay you.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
You're the second person to volunteer him.

[ "That guy." "Jail guy." Nobody ever names him by name and if Minato didn't come across everybody's passports, he'd never have learned it. ]

The offer ended up falling through, anyways. He didn't need my tent. [ ... ] He still has my belt, though...

[ Too much time has passed and it feels weird asking for it back now ]

[ Sunfish bastard, son of a bi-- He goes by many names when Dokja is irritated with him.

Wait. ]
..He has your belt? What for?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
For you.

[ For tying him up, with the only thing Minato had on him that would've done the job before learning clotheslines came with their camping supplies. ]

[personal profile] afterword 2020-07-04 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
..That bastard.

[ SIGHS. Honestly, he isn't surprised, but he is by the fact that Yoo Joonghyuk seems to have forgotten about that detail. ] I'll get it back for you. Try not to lend anymore of your things to him, alright?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh- uh. Thanks.

[ For the belt back. But he hesitates to promise not to lend anything more to Joonghyuk. ]

I'll try, but... he made a good argument for them. I think? I don't remember.
afterword: (pic#14093568)

[personal profile] afterword 2020-07-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
That guy couldn't make a good argument even if it slapped both of his cheeks.

[ Well, anyways.. ] In the end, it's your decision but I'll drop off your belt at your tent as soon as I get it.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-05 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure he made a good argument. I was convinced, at any rate...

[ But maybe that says more about himself than about Joonghuk.]

Thanks, though.

[personal profile] afterword 2020-07-05 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah..

[ X to doubt. He starts to put his fishing things away into his pockets, lessen the carrying burden as he takes out the NookPhone. ] I'll go find him now in that case. Before he conveniently forgets any more than he has.
