Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[Theo rolls his eyes before giving Minato a considering look. It didn't...seem like he was saying it just to say it. Hm...]

In my experience, people don't really care to know. Ignorance is bliss... [But he shrugs and lays his hands behind him to fall back on them while he sits.] Here I thought you were an inconsiderate idiot.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-02 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You didn't think wrong.

[ Taking sitting as an invitation to mirror the motion, Minato lowers himself down as well, slipping the knapsack onto his lap before dropping his bum fully onto the ground. He stows the notepad away now that it's been used, and replaces it with a bucket.

Inside, a mix of grass, leaves, and other greenery that makes a bed for some beetles that are content enough to sit in the shade of his open bag. ]

I can rehome the bugs later... Can these be salvaged? The plants.

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah. Hmm... Theo leans over and tips the bucket more in his direction so he can get a better look.]

Mmm... Not many with roots, and the ones that do got 'em still are pretty damaged... [Poor plants, not that there's anything to be done about it now. Never mind that without his magic easing the process, transplanting anything could be traumatic for the plants if they weren't very careful.

The bugs...he doesn't know much about. Not his department, if they weren't a common garden pest.]
Find the beetles around these guys? If they're food anyway, it's not that big of a deal... When the rest of it starts to decompose, it can even be used to help give nutrients to the soil for other shit.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ Yyyyyeah, he's got to work on his weeding technique so he doesn't keep breaking the roots when he tries to pull them up, unable to keep a good grip and pull things straight up. ]

Mm, they're the plants the beetles were sitting on. Dunno if they were eating the plants, though, or sap or nectar or whatever.

[ He picks up one of the flowers in the bucket-- a bright yellow one identifying it as a weed, according to what he learned from Sonico-- and taps at it to scatter some pollen(?) out into the air, helping it propagate in this way makes up for untimely uprooting it. ]

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Using a shovel to take a whole section of the earth would be a better method, for conservation purposes............it's fine. Being mean to yellow flowers is less fine because yellow is the best color, and what he's witnessing is...a medium level of fine. Mostly.]

You're a weird one, huh... I'm not gonna wake up to find you standing over me in my sleep, right?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Do you not want me to?

[ He makes zero promises one way or another. ]

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
[minato]

I'd really prefer if you didn't... I'd think you were trying to kill me and I might have to kick you in the face.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Don't do that... I can stand over your head, where your feet can't reach.

[ It's the best he can offer, short of just agreeing not to loom over Theo as he sleeps. But in all seriousness, he doubts he'd be able to fit- especially standing- with his wings folded behind him only when he's not thinking about them, and being in a small enclosed space with somebody else makes it hard not to be self-conscious about how much space you take up. ]
aggroculture: (8)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got the power of determination on my side.

[Don't fuck with him, kid!! Theo definitely wouldn't be able to pull off kicking Minato in the head, but as long as he doesn't stop calling his bluff, it'll be fine. He really doesn't want to scream like a little girl because clearly a demon has come to rip his heart out. Actually...]

Were you a human before coming here?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm... I think so?

[ Most definitely so, but then again, it's not like he always feels it. ]

Do I stop being human just because I look different now?
aggroculture: (53)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[concerning.........]

I was more thinking you might've been a demon and always looked this way. Now my best guess is that you were a ghost, all floaty-headed as you are.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe.

[ That's also possible! Maybe he was dead all along. ]

A human ghost or a demon ghost? Hybrid?

[ There is surprisingly little difference between a human and a demon, after all. ]
aggroculture: (7)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[squints]

I'm not sure demons have ghosts. Doesn't that require, like, some soul shit? Demons are demons.

[But, you know, not his family's bag on either the demon thing or the ghost thing.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Do demons not have souls?

[ What does that make him... ]

Maybe I lost mine and that's why I look like this now. What about you?
aggroculture: (15)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Theo shrugs, crossing his arms and tipping his head as he watches the boy.]

Don't act like it, do they? [like...they're demons...] Me? Pretty fucking sure I still got my soul rattling around in here, bear ears be damned.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Eyes to the ground, the smallest of shrugs that's accentuated by the way the movement lifts all six wings. Demons make good friends, and sometimes he thinks they have more soul than some of the people he knows. Then again, his town is literally riddled with soulless zombies at the moment, so maybe he hangs around with the wrong crowd. ]

That's good. The stillness makes it hard to tell sometimes. But I could've guessed you have yours: you write poetry.
aggroculture: (6)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[squints]

Ha? [like, what?? Never mind that his sign wasn't actually meant to be poetry, he's got bigger fish to fry.] Stillness...of my soul?

[Maybe the kid really was a ghost... Or maybe one of the witch types that could specialize in that sort of thing? Either way, there he goes being spooky again!]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's quick to shake his head, at least, though his answer might not be any less spooky. ]

I meant mine, for me.

[ Suddenly devoid of 170-ish other presences, the nothingness makes him wonder if anything is there at all. ]
aggroculture: (38)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Still spooky!! But he's feeling a little more secure about his own state of being, at least.]

That's rough, buddy. As long as you don't start feeling hungry for mine or anyone else's, though, I think we can get along enough to keep staying in the same space. M'Theo, by the way.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Minato. I'll try to keep my hunger at bay.

[ He holds out his hand, smeared with leftover dirt that didn't rub off on his pants from his past weeding escapades. ]
aggroculture: (44)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[sighs]

Somehow from you, this feels more like making a blood pact...

[But he'll shake Minato's dirty hand with his own.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The contract is sealed ]

We can always make it one.
aggroculture: (77)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh... No thanks. Even if I don't think it would do anything -- [Again, not his department.] -- touching other people's blood isn't exactly the best idea. What a, uh, kind offer, though.
