Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Silent, he twists to pull his knapsack closer to him, and digs out the notepad and pen, holding it out to Theo. Make your sign dreams come true. ]
no subject
Jesus, hell... [Don't do that? Alright now, what is this... Pen and paper, huh?
He doesn't take them, instead looking up, crooking an eyebrow, and signing DEAF YOU? Is he actually going to get use out of that online course he took in high school? A different kind of sign dream...]
no subject
And his movements are that: small, slow, following the signing with his eyes and then meeting Theo's before tilting his head in a non-answer. Instead, he clamps the notepad under an arm and mirrors the sign. DEAF, YOU? ]
no subject
Okay then, what's with the notepad?
[Unless he should be speaking Latin because this was some sort of demon that didn't know how to fit in properly? Certainly had the looks for it, but with his magic having withered away in this strange place, it was hard to know for sure. Besides, other people had ears and tails and things, himself included...
Maybe he should stop going in circles in his head and actually focus on this maybe-hellbeast of a teen.]
no subject
For your sign. I can write it, if you don't know how.
no subject
I can fucking write?
[Which he'll demonstrate by snatching the items away from Minato and poising the pen in place, and...hm.]
This is gonna be a real shitty sign for a real shitty garden... If that whackjob wasn't buying everything up with his fake currency, I wouldn't even have to worry about this -- I mean, like the average person gives a fuck about wild weeds?
[Still...
UNDER PAIN OF FOOT
IN FACE DO NOT
STEP OR DISTURB
THIS GARDEN
- THEO
Perfect.]
Sharpie would be way better.
no subject
"Under pain of foot... in face do not..." Nice poem.
[ Something to be said about poetic form forced by the confines of paper size. ]
So... what's up with the garden? Cultivating wares for Tom Nook?
no subject
The question dampens his mood again pretty quickly.]
Nah, screw that guy. This is the opposite -- trying to protect the native plants from being overweeded. They're an important part of the ecology here, too.
no subject
Heck if he knows anything about plants. He is good at following directions, though, and going along with things. ]
Should they be weeded at all? It's been like this for... however long, before we got here. But now Tom Nook wants us to pull weeds and break rocks. It's weird.
no subject
[Maybe the weird kid isn't so bad after all, if he can appreciate the island for what it is.]
If we can keep the weeds and the other plant separate so one doesn't overtake the other, then having both best thing we can really do. The land was doing that pretty well by itself. Add in the deforestation and how there aren't any laws in place about about capturing the fish and bugs... He puts on a friendly face, but he's fucking this place over and using us to do it. Not that these other people care... Having the time of their fucking lives.
no subject
[ That is something Minato can always get behind: doing nothing. Deforestation, fishing and hunting laws, those sorts of things go over his head- more serious considerations than he's really ever had to think about, the future never really being real enough for him to have those considerations. ]
The other people here probably don't know better. Like me. Maybe they'd stop if you tell them.
no subject
In my experience, people don't really care to know. Ignorance is bliss... [But he shrugs and lays his hands behind him to fall back on them while he sits.] Here I thought you were an inconsiderate idiot.
no subject
[ Taking sitting as an invitation to mirror the motion, Minato lowers himself down as well, slipping the knapsack onto his lap before dropping his bum fully onto the ground. He stows the notepad away now that it's been used, and replaces it with a bucket.
Inside, a mix of grass, leaves, and other greenery that makes a bed for some beetles that are content enough to sit in the shade of his open bag. ]
I can rehome the bugs later... Can these be salvaged? The plants.
no subject
Mmm... Not many with roots, and the ones that do got 'em still are pretty damaged... [Poor plants, not that there's anything to be done about it now. Never mind that without his magic easing the process, transplanting anything could be traumatic for the plants if they weren't very careful.
The bugs...he doesn't know much about. Not his department, if they weren't a common garden pest.] Find the beetles around these guys? If they're food anyway, it's not that big of a deal... When the rest of it starts to decompose, it can even be used to help give nutrients to the soil for other shit.
no subject
Mm, they're the plants the beetles were sitting on. Dunno if they were eating the plants, though, or sap or nectar or whatever.
[ He picks up one of the flowers in the bucket-- a bright yellow one identifying it as a weed, according to what he learned from Sonico-- and taps at it to scatter some pollen(?) out into the air, helping it propagate in this way makes up for untimely uprooting it. ]
no subject
You're a weird one, huh... I'm not gonna wake up to find you standing over me in my sleep, right?
no subject
[ He makes zero promises one way or another. ]
no subject
I'd really prefer if you didn't... I'd think you were trying to kill me and I might have to kick you in the face.
no subject
[ It's the best he can offer, short of just agreeing not to loom over Theo as he sleeps. But in all seriousness, he doubts he'd be able to fit- especially standing- with his wings folded behind him only when he's not thinking about them, and being in a small enclosed space with somebody else makes it hard not to be self-conscious about how much space you take up. ]
no subject
[Don't fuck with him, kid!! Theo definitely wouldn't be able to pull off kicking Minato in the head, but as long as he doesn't stop calling his bluff, it'll be fine. He really doesn't want to scream like a little girl because clearly a demon has come to rip his heart out. Actually...]
Were you a human before coming here?
no subject
[ Most definitely so, but then again, it's not like he always feels it. ]
Do I stop being human just because I look different now?
no subject
I was more thinking you might've been a demon and always looked this way. Now my best guess is that you were a ghost, all floaty-headed as you are.
no subject
[ That's also possible! Maybe he was dead all along. ]
A human ghost or a demon ghost? Hybrid?
[ There is surprisingly little difference between a human and a demon, after all. ]
no subject
I'm not sure demons have ghosts. Doesn't that require, like, some soul shit? Demons are demons.
[But, you know, not his family's bag on either the demon thing or the ghost thing.]
no subject
[ What does that make him... ]
Maybe I lost mine and that's why I look like this now. What about you?
