Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[There's a beat of silence that's just a little too long to go along with his clipped,] No, I don't.

[As long as he didn't take his pants off around her, she wouldn't know any better.]

Huh. They aren't even giving us sunscreen, what's harmless about this? Also the feeling like I'm fucking going crazy, that's not exactly happy funtimes.

[Suspicious....]

Are you sure...?

[Geez... Some people are just so negative.]

Whatever danger’s here is a long con - so there’s no point in stressing out about it. Besides, things could be so much worse.

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Did you really just ask me "are you sure"? Yeah, I'm sure!

[It's a lie, but what an odd thing to question!!]

Alright, Ms. Chrysanthemum, lay it on me. Give me reason to believe you can comprehend the concept of bad things happening.

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
But what if it’s really stumpy!

[Stumpy tail for a stumpy lad...

She raises an eyebrow, not quite sure what he’s trying to prove.]

Are you asking if anything bad’s ever happened to me or are you literally asking if I’m too naive to consider this is just some great scheme to kill us all in horrific ways?
aggroculture: (10)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[hrgh]

That a short joke?

[He doesn't need to read the bracket text, he feels it in his treacherous heart... Also he's gotta get her off his tail.]

I want to know your personal horror story for our island predicament. What's the worse you think we could get?
transfusionem: (pic#12951348)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
No. [Yes.] I’m just saying, those look like bear ears, and bears’ve got really stumpy tails.

[Hmm...]

Well, there’s mass hallucination, but that seems unlikely and not all that terrible. Another option is we’ve all been brought here and cursed and are going to slowly lose our humanity and turn into animals and monsters with no higher thought and those of us who are already displaying animalistic traits are further along in the curse.

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[don't do this to him]

I don't make the rules? If I did, I wouldn't be here?

[Theo watches her a long moment before slowly nodding. His reply sounds utterly serious, which is maybe because it's about half serious.]

Curse is legit. Weird collection to inflict it on, though... Our buddy Tom supposed to be cursed too, or a plant by the witch in charge?
transfusionem: (pic#12570517)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Too late.]

If you made the rules, what would your island be like, then?

[That is...a super unimportant question.]

It could be both. Someone who was cursed but they lost who they used to be and now they’re in on the witch’s schemes because they don’t know any better.
aggroculture: (35)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ashikaga flower park.

[It would be BEAUTIFUL, and that's why he doesn't really have to think about it. Never mind that that doesn't have much, if anything, to do with rules.]

Mmm... Seems pretty domesticated to be "lost" completely to a curse that makes you a feral animal, or whatever. Obvious serial killer with a carefully crafted mask aside, I mean.
transfusionem: (pic#12951355)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[She has no idea what that is...Which is a shame.]

I'm not familiar... But it sounds nice!

[Flowers are good.]

Yeah, but it could be a gift from the witch to keep him under their control. He gets to remain sentient as long as he works with them, y'know? As a treat.
aggroculture: (13)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Better than nice. Biggest fucking Wisteria you'd ever see in your life.

[It was pretty, stranger lady.

He crooks an eyebrow at her, unable to help the upward twitch of his lips. The familiarity put him more at ease than he would have thought.]

...Tom Nook can have a little sentience. As a treat. [this is ridiculous] Personally I'd bet on him being summoned to do the dirty work, as a demon do. I don't trust like that.
transfusionem: (pic#12951361)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maybe some day she'll go there...!!

She crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow.]

I mean... Could be. Doesn't look like any demon I've heard of - most go for "threatening" or "sexy", not... Furries dressed like middle aged men on vacation. That just makes me feel worse for him, if he's a demon.

[Most demons are nice and friendly and happy to help!]
aggroculture: (41)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[sorry, just gonna furrow his brows in return.]

Sexy demon...

[Like. He knows there are definitely seductive demons that are objectively sexy. Acknowledging that out loud is another thing entirely, when you're raised to think of them as a sort of tool that would backstab you first chance it got. His family had never really been comfortable with the whole demon summoning aspect... Familiars were just better.]

Still, a middle-aged furry on vacation to an island he's basically in charge of -- ain't that, like, the furry dream? Not that I'd fucking know.
transfusionem: (pic#12951304)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't need to be judged...]

Well, yeah?

[#NotAllDemons

All the one's Adelaide ever met have been perfectly kind and courteous, once you get past all the edge. It's fine.]

I mean, I don't know, it seems like a lot of responsibility for a dream. I don't know anyone who'd ask for this.
aggroculture: (62)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hm, that seems familiar... Almost like demons aren't so different after all.]

Just wait until he starts asking us to fan him.
transfusionem: (pic#13098105)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Theo is a demon confirmed?]

And feed him grapes?
aggroculture: (73)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wow, he'd be so offended because he's stupid.]

Have to cultivate grapes, first. Apple slices to start with, maybe.
transfusionem: (pic#13098100)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's what he deserves.]

Couldn't he just magic some up? Y'know, if he's a demon.
aggroculture: (21)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That's -- [not how that works? But he cuts himself off, because even if he's in a new, strange place with an obvious connection to the more magical side of the world, he shouldn't be such a weak point in the protection that came with keeping it secret. He knew better than that.]

It ruins the point of us doing all this shit for him, though. He seems to get more satisfaction watching us run around doing shitty labor for him, having us wreck all the nature here...
transfusionem: (pic#13098082)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Listen, she doesn't know shit about plant magic, okay, and neither did her teacher. Cut her some slack!]

I guess so... [She glances back at the Future Weed Garden.] Is it really wrecking nature that badly, though?
aggroculture: (76)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sure, yeah, but aren't there some conjuration basics that go into blood magic, too? This is Theo's snide hypothetical brain that Only knows about plant magic.

Anyway, don't judge his weeds, they're just as valid as the field of cosmos.]

Uh, removing local floral and fauna at an alarming rate for the sake of fake-ass money? Chipping away at all the natural resources this place has to offer? Hell, if the animals here weren't people, he'd probably be having us hunt whatever wandered by, endangerment be damned.
transfusionem: (pic#12951361)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Most of what goes into blood magic is blood. Badumtsh.

She will judge him and his weeds all she wants.]

...You know, it is kind of weird there's no actual animals on the island. Like, I think I saw a bird once? But there's nothing else.

[She's just going to ignore everything else in that statement.]
aggroculture: (45)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[no

Theo heaves a great sigh, tension in his arms going completely limp in defeat.]

Ms. Chrysanthemum, that is so besides the point. It’s fucked up, yeah, but this isn’t how you argue with someone.
transfusionem: (pic#12570521)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-02 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes.]

Why do you keep calling me Chrysanthemum? [Also don't call her miss, that's weird!] And I'm not trying to argue! I'm just saying...
aggroculture: (5)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-02 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[sigh...]

Because it means ‘optimism’. Not arguing is the point, I’m trying to make you argue. You don’t seem like an airhead, but you’re just going easy-breezy like dandelion fluff in the wind.
