Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Sorta? They're temporary so I haven't paid too much attention to them. [ His tail has some knots in the fur, but for the most part seems clean? Sometimes he gets twigs and leaves stuck in it too but usually that's gotten rid of by Yoo Joonghyuk's excessive whacking at it. The punk. ]
no subject
I wonder if tails can be matted... that would be painful for you. Brushing it a lot would solve that, so take good care of it. It's still a part of you, after all.
no subject
I'll keep that in mind if I come across a brush. [ And if he remembers to use it? In before it gets that bad and he suffers-- ]
no subject
... ]
Want to use it?
no subject
[ Nope. ]
no subject
[ Don't make him chase you with it-- ]
no subject
[ Don't you dare. He isn't using a FISH BONE? He will sic Yoo Joonghyuk if it means he can avoid it, but then maybe that fool will think it's a weapon and the situation gets worse? Dilemmas.] How much to pay you to stop?
1/2
[ A dangerous glint in Laurent's eyes are there, full of mischief--!! ]
no subject
[ He puts away the fish bone into his own pocket. Laurent is very aware that he doesn't want to make it look like he's attacking Dokja because Joonghyuk could come out of nowhere and probably yeet him into the ocean. ]
I just hope that you'll take care of yourself with the same energy that you tried defending yourself with.
no subject
I take care of myself well enough. [ It's fine, it's fine. Does he have this kind of effect where everyone seems to worry about him? He's not use to such concern. ] Thank you for not using a fish's carcass. [ It's just the bones but still. ]
no subject
Also, honestly, it's been pretty easy for Laurent to worry about people on the island and he's been showing concern left and right. There have been Concerns.
Though Dokja's remarks make him laugh. ]
That makes it sound so much worse. If I get something like a brush DIY, I'll be sure to send you the first one I make.
no subject
Given the track record of DIYs, I wouldn't be surprised if one does come up. [ But, he wouldn't mind though now that he's thinking.. ] Yoo Joonghyuk could probably use one too.
no subject
[ Unless he wants their tail furs to mix with each other's... ]
no subject
[ He doesn't see an issue of sharing a brush for their tails? It's not
lewd? ]no subject
One brush, it is~
[ Though, he's curious. ]
How much did the shark sell for?
no subject
Hmmmm, thirteen thousand bells? It went for quite a lot compared to other things I've considered selling.
no subject
[ Dokja is loaded now
as he's always been. Laurent runs through the prices of other things he sold so far, and the shark really outsells every single one of them by a very wide margin. ]I suppose fishing is a little like playing the lottery then. It sounds like you'll be all set for the surprise next week.
no subject
Maybe. It's at least a good start. Of course there's also choosing between selling what you catch or saving for food.
no subject
I'd be willing to pass up on shark fin soup if I could get rich quick.
[ He looks over at Dokja again. Maybe he's not as tired as before... then he eyes the glass of water that he didn't drink out of just yet. ]
You must be busy to farm nuggets, so I'll leave you to that. Please take occasional breaks.
no subject
[ It's good to relax for a moment, just holding onto the glass until he follows his gaze. Oh, right. ]
Busy enough, thanks for the water Laurent. [ Which he'll offer a little departing wave before he finally drinks. ]
