Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

There's a cook on the island. Remember the guy you were going to give up the tent for?
[ When there's a strong tug on the fishing line, Laurent grabs the fishing rod and reels it in. It turns out to be a squid. He immediately shoves it into a spare watering can. ]
Ask him to cook this squid for you.

Minato takes the watering can and peers inside at the squid, and then scoots over towards the end of the ledge and peers over the side of it, where there's a short drop before the water. ]
Can you fill the can up with water too?

Laurent takes the watering can with the squid in it and sweeps some water into it, careful so that the squid doesn't escape. Then he hands it back to Minato. ]
There. You're good now, right? Go take a shower some time too.

[ He holds the can of squid in his lap, arms curled around it in a hug, and settles comfortably where he sits, gaze turned out across the sea. ]

Laurent looks a little thoughtful. The extinction of humanity--that was something was also pending back in his home, but it could be avoided. It could, but would it?

It may be inevitable with no consequences to face in oblivion, some people hate not being able to control their own lives, so they'll fight to extend it instead of rushing to complete everything in their bucket list before they die. What each people want is different, but they all want to live the life they want. Surely, you wouldn't like it either if your life wasn't yours to live.

I don't like the idea of fate.
[ But there are still plenty of times that he gives into it, not having the means or the will to struggle against it. Even now, he finds himself on a strange island listening to the direction of an equally strange self-proclaimed tanuki. ]
But I don't really know what I want either. So it's the same as giving into it.

Do you care about humanity about to save it from extinction? Or would you like to prevent it so you can spend some more time doing what you want?

...I'd save it if I could. I don't know what I would do- what I would do with myself- but other people have aspirations. Them losing the chance would be a shame. That's all.

[ He gave up his tent without knowing why, convincing Minato of things is generally easy. "Saving humanity" is a grand concept, something so large, it's easy to agree to do it, especially when you don't know exactly what it entails. ]
