Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[ Laurent clears some things to make room for Dokja. It's not much but there are flowers, flower crowns, watering cans, a knapsack, and several fishing rods. It's a bit messy, but it is clean enough for the other person to sit.. Have a seat next to him, reader. ]
I'm glad to see that you're doing well.
[ Considering your... bodyguard? Not boyfriend? Something??? Is always on his tail. ]
no subject
Ah, well enough. [ To which he says with a smile, even if he has some dark circles under his eyes but it's fine. He can't escape his so-called "bodyguard's" gaze unless you want him stomping over looking for him so technically still on his tail. ] How about you? You seem to be keeping yourself busy.
no subject
They say boredom is a poison to the mind, so keeping myself busy is a good way to pass time. Did you do anything lately?
no subject
I can relate to that. [ Of course, he would keep himself busy with a specific novel. ] Helped my companion with carrying some logs and apples over. He's working on cooking right now. Candied apples and or cinnamon apple omelette, in case you're hungry.
[ And whoosh! There goes his line. Now to await RNG's choice on what fish he manages to (hopefully) successfully catch. ]
no subject
[ Jail guy's a cook. Fascinating.
Laurent is usually lucky, but he's been having a lot of time in between his catches today. Maybe it's a sign to take it easy. ]
no subject
He doesn't eat food made by anyone else, after all. [ It's common knowledge, and if dokja doesn't say it Joonghyuk more certainly will. He loosely holds the pole for now, looking over to the waters. Here, fishie fishie... ]
no subject
[ Not eating food made by other people has several implications that makes Laurent think. Maybe he was poisoned before. Maybe he has pride that only his dishes are good enough to eat. He decides not to outwardly comment on that. ]
Do you think he could cook bugs too?
no subject
[ The man known as Yoo Joonghyuk has gone through more lifetimes and suffering than anyone can even begin to imagine. Kim Dokja, the sole reader who has read up upon his life, felt like he was the closest to understanding that feeling. He doesn't say anything else and Laurent doesn't comment further so he moves on as well. ]
Of course. He's cooked with weirder things. [ ? ]
no subject
... ]
What was the weirdest thing he's cooked?
no subject
Not too sure about weirdest.. [ There was a lot. Of weird things. But.. ] What first came to memory though is ground rats.
no subject
[ Well. I mean. ]
He... ground the rats?
[ Damn, is this guy a human blender or what. ]
no subject
They can grow quite large. Think cat sized or something. They're quite monstrous in appearances too, cooking and eating normally doesn't seem safe but if cooked right it's really delicious. Mouth watering, really.
no subject
[ That's interesting, Laurent thinks. There really are all kinds of places out there. ]
It sounds like how you prepare a puffer fish--dangerous if not done right, but delicious when you know what you're doing.
[ A fish finally bites and yanks down on Laurent's fishing line and Laurent quickly reels it up! He catches...
... A puffer fish. He laughs. ]
no subject
Well, you wouldn't be wrong. A lot of monsters back home definitely lined up with that kind of thinking in mind.
[ ...Pfft. What is that timing? His own line tugs, but he pulls up a.. Squid. His lips twitch. Thanks, he hates it. He mumbles quietly to himself. ] ..Guess I shouldn't be surprised.
no subject
Laurent stuffs the puffer fish into an empty watering can and looks over at Dokja's catch. ]
Don't like squid?
no subject
[ Tilts head, before he sets it aside in some container. Should he have Joonghyuk cook it? ...Now he watches as it wiggles a tentacle out at him, as if to say, "Please reconsider." ]
A nickname of sorts kind stuck with me for a long time because of one though. It's a long story. [ It's not, he just doesn't want to talk about it. His pride is hurt. ]
no subject
Now you can have some sort of proxy revenge. Maybe Joonghyuk can cook something like calamari apple salad.
no subject
Or I can probably sell it for some currency. Tom Nook did say he would buy anything off our hands.
no subject
[ He sees something like a shark fin on the surface that's a little far.
Hm.
Worrying. ]
no subject
[ Nods slowly, gaze drifting out and... ... ..? ]
Interesting, that almost looks like a fin? [ What are the chances of sharks being around this island? Hahaha ha. ..Maybe they shouldn't go swimming while they are here. ]
no subject
[ 0 to 100 real quick. ]
no subject
[ That's not gonna happen. ]
no subject
[ Laurent is already casting his line into the water. ]
no subject
[ But, he'll humor him and toss his own line. Please don't come here, mysterious finned fish. ]
no subject
[ The fin is interested! It swims slowly to Dokja's line, but not really biting just yet. ]
