Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.



Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

[ She had promised a few people the night before, so early in the morning, Kairi can be found collecting large sticks. She’ll widdle down the tips to be extra sharp to make some spears. Sure there are fishing rods now, but this is something she’s more familiar with and what she wants to stick to now.

If anyone is interested in learning, Kairi will invite them down by the beach. She can show them how to prepare the spears and then fish with them. She stands about knee deep in the water, waiting patiently with a spear in hand. Then- ]

Ha-!!

[ Kaire stabs down quickly and then pulls out the spear with a fish on the end. She seems really pleased with herself as she adds it to a small pile she has going by a fire on the beach. ]

Oh hey do you know how to cook these? I can cook them over the flames, but I bet you can make them tastier!

[turntoashes]

[Lio traded out his pants and boots for a pair of shorts and one of the shirts provided, so at least there's no worries about getting sand where he'd really rather there not be sand.

He watches as Kairi demonstrates before trying to imitate--

And losing his footing, falling in the water.]

Pfft.

Ah Lio!

[ She wades over to him and holds a hand out. ]

You okay?

Yeah, I'm fine. Just wet.

[He takes her hand, shaking his hair like a dog.]

Ugh. Salty.

[ Kairi laughs, holding her hands up to block the shake off. ]

Is this your first time playing in the ocean?

[ Minato meets her down by the beach, taking a spear just... to have it... and standing by and watching Kairi successfully spear another fish to add to her pile. ]

I'm impressed. I'm too slow using these, so whatever I'm trying to stab sometimes notices me when I'm trying to sneak up on them.

[ Give him a short sword or a bow any day, but he can't be choosy in a place like this either. ]

Heheh it just takes practice.

[ She sits down on the beach to rest for a few moments, glancing up at him. ]

You're not going to use that for something bad are you?

...I dunno yet.

[ He can make the promise for the future, but... He twirls the spear in his hand, slow and sweeping and just something to keep his hands occupied. ]

If you mean hurting somebody with it, I don't think I have any reason to.

[ But he thought that in the past, have hurt people in the past, and so he doesn't make the promise. ]

Hmmm... alright. But if you do something bad you gotta answer to me!

[ It's kinda hard to tell if she's joking or being serious. Maybe both? ]

It has been peaceful like we thought, though huh? Maybe it's too early to know for sure but I'm glad.

[Sonico had been walking by the beach, trying to fish, when she spots this girl being badass. She walks over to where the pile of fish is and shakes her head at the question.]

I don't know how to cut fish that's fresh, sadly! But can you teach me how to catch some?

[ Gasps! A badass? ]

Aha me too unfortunately. But sure I'd be happy to! Go ahead and grab a spear!

[She does as told, and this time, she takes off her shoes before going in the water. Landing with shoes on had been horrible, after all.]

[ Kairi hands her one of the spears. ]

Spear fishing is pretty easy in concept but kinda hard in execution. You gotta be reaaally patient and wait for a fish to come near you. And you gotta use a lot of force too, so stab it like this-!

[ She stabs down swiftly toward the water. ]

I know how to cook them. We have some seasoning now, so I can make it a little better, although I have to admit that it's still not going to be the best that I can do with the supplies we got.

Oh wow! Seasoning would be really great though. I'll take anything at this point!

[Takes them out from her pockets.]

Here they are.

[She had them on her the whole time.]

Oh! Well that's convenient. Okay!

[ She grins, looking through them. ]

I'm okay with cleaning fish; do you want some help with the prep?

...woah.

[Alexis stands to the side, arms crossed and eyebrow raised. Even she has to admit that Kairi's got some skills.]

You're pretty handy with those things.

[ She gives the girl her biggest, friendliest grin. ]

Did you wanna give it a try?

Sure. I'll take a shot.

[Alexis cockily grabs one of the javelins, takes aim, and... spears one of the fish first try. She yanks it out of the water and hands it to Kairi, twirling the weapon and resting it across her back.]

How's that?

Wow! That was amazing!

[ She's really impressed! She didn't expect this honestly. ]

Where did you learn to do that?

[Faris is just passing by when he notices Kairi with a spear and— Oh wow.]

That is very impressive, Kairi! I had assume that the only way to catch fish was with those fishing rods, but this is a very interesting way to go about it!

Oh thanks! Yeah I just find this more fun.

[Ashe stopped by when Kairi started stabbing fish. That was one good way to get some fish! He watched her add to the small pile when he looked up at her question.]

Oh yeah! There were some cooking supplies dropped off today, I can make something great with these, one sec.

[Ashe gathered three fish and carried it over to the supplies area. He started preparing the fish with the supplies that were delivered. After he got the fish ready he carried them back over to place by the fire.]

I cut, cleaned, and seasoned them. They should be ready in a little bit. I'll go fix some more once these finish cooking. There are some vegetables I can cook up a little later too, if you want.

[ Kairi grins at that, putting down her spear watch. She helps him to make sure the fire is okay. ]
