Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.



Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

[ Minato takes up residence at the airport, surrounded by his supplied tools, but rather than the hunter-gatherer life, he turns towards technology, eyes on the seaplane!!!! just chilling out on the water waiting for somebody to hijack it.

Whatever ropes bind the plane to the dock, Minato's currently going at it with the axe from his knapsack. This is not the intended use of the tool but shh. We make do. ]

[Eventually Lio makes his way over to the docks, since someone mentioned the seaplane.]

You probably don't want to do that.

Hm? Why?

[ He pauses his sawing, thankfully having made very little headway because every time he tries to saw it, the plane moves with the water and rope slacks, not cutting. ]

Because if you cut it loose, it'll float away.

[ ...true. He sets the axe down on his lap, balanced precariously and in danger of falling off, but it stays for the time being. ]

It's hard to test it out if it's docked, though. If it starts to drift, I think I'd be able to push it back? Or call for others to come help.

[ With his phone, most likely, because a quiet voice as his isn't going to be loud enough to reach much of anybody. ]

Is the door locked? Why not try getting in and seeing if it'll turn on before untying it?

I don’t think all of us can fit on that skyskimmer! We’re all kind of in the dark about what’s going on here, so maybe we should investigate more before trying to leave.

I don't want to leave.

[ If he gets the plane going, it's not like he plans to leave everybody behind, anyways. Island life is pretty nice. But like he told Tom Nook, neighbors is the problem. ]

It'd be useful for investigating too, right? Seeing how large the island is. If there's any others nearby.

Oh! Huh, I just thought about walking around the island and exploring that way... that's actually a great idea!

I don't know anything about engineering, but maybe someone does?

I'm trying to learn how to make these wings work, [ he shrugs his shoulders and the three pairs of wings behind him ruffle, the closest thing he can to making them move the way he wants. which is not well at all. ] but flight's still a ways off. So I was hoping to have more luck with this...

Making it actually run is the next hurdle, after getting it free. I dunno who would know about this stuff... One of my teammates back home would've figured it out by now, but she isn't here.

Ah, so you're another one who didn't have them before you got here, eh? Honestly, I don't know what to make of all that, even with some of the weirder stuff I've seen...

And I know what you mean! My crew's helmsman is a pretty accomplished engineer, so he'd probably know what to do with it... but you know how that is! I don't know the first thing about machines.

Are you trying to free the plane from its confines?

[Clearly this seaplane is in its own sort of jail.]

Mmhm. That's right. It's not going too well, though...

[ These are some pretty thick and sturdy bindings, and this is not what an axe is supposed to be used for. A rock bound to a stick, not nearly sharp enough for this sort of thing. ]

[Iori squints at it for a moment, as if contemplative--]

Yeah, I dunno.

[ "I dunno." We gave up so quickly... But an answer like that just makes Minato smile a little, because, mood. ]

I'll keep at it. If we can get it out to sea, we can use it like a raft even if it doesn't fly. Planes are coming out to see us, so... we can't be that far from land. Right?

That's true... although where is the big question, huh!

[Where are the planes coming from, that is.]

[Serval, rather than use an axe, is currently climbing all over the plane.]

How do you get in? I think it's locked.

I dunno. A key, or with magic. Can you help me up onto the plane?

[ Clutching the rope, he's half submerged in the water, not dragged all the way down to its depths only because he's holding onto the safety line. ]

Okay! Hold on!

[She jumps off the plane onto the dock, then reaches down to grab Minato and hoist him up out of the water. How is this girl that strong?]

Whoa—!

[ It's- definitely more than he expected, pulled bodily out of the water and he scrambles to find his footing so Serval doesn't need to keep holding onto him. ]

Surprised me... Thanks for that. Now I know who to count on if I'm ever hanging off a ledge anywhere.

[sugooooooooi]

No problem! I'm pretty good at lifting things. Even if people say I'm clumsy. And you're all good at plenty of things I can't do!

[southclaw]

[WHAT the HECK is this giant THING sitting in the water!! A monster? A dragon? And why is this guy over here trying to set it loose?]

No! You'll wake it up!

[ Oh- uh. Then maybe we shouldn't...

Minato stops what he's doing, hanging onto the side of the plane, and puts his axe away so he can use his free hand to place a finger before his lips.

Shhhhh, don't want to wake it up. He drops his voice to a whisper. ]

Sorry. I'm trying to be as quiet as I can.

[southclaw]

[Kevin nods fervently and also whispers:]

Might be dangerous. Best to leave it alone!

[But now the question remains...]

What is it?

Oh. You don't know? It's a very dangerous seaplane. Roars real loud when it wakes up, can swoop around in the air and the sea and chase after you at hundreds of meters a second.

[ Absolutely very dangerous. The finger taps against his lips as a reminder for them to keep being quiet. ]
