Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

I don't know anything about engineering, but maybe someone does?
no subject
Making it actually run is the next hurdle, after getting it free. I dunno who would know about this stuff... One of my teammates back home would've figured it out by now, but she isn't here.
no subject
And I know what you mean! My crew's helmsman is a pretty accomplished engineer, so he'd probably know what to do with it... but you know how that is! I don't know the first thing about machines.

Turning his attention back to the plane, though- ]
We might still be able to figure it out. If it doesn't fly, we can still use it as a boat. Find a way to attach sails to it, and... be at the mercy of the wind, I guess...
no subject
Well, I don’t know anything about sailing either, but it’s worth a try, I guess! Admittedly, given how weird all this is, I wonder if we’ll even be able to leave.

[YOU KNOW WHAT HE’LL JUST PRETEND HE UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE]
Yeah, I guess so! I was thinking a primal beast, though. They tend to do things like this if they’re unhappy or something.
no subject
Yikes... Some nature or sea guardian if we're out on an island, maybe? What should we do?
no subject
no subject
Nothing to do but try everything, huh.
[ He cups his hands around his mouth, but even raising his voice it doesn't get much louder than his usual speaking voice. ]
Hey—- Primal beast. If you're out there and can hear us, please give us a sign.
[ ... ]

[...when no one responds, he throws in his own shouts.]
Hey! I know primal beasts too! Some of them personally! So if you’re having an issue, I’d like to give you a hand!
[...]

Maybe they don't need help right now... [ raising his voice again, after which it dips to its normal volume after a moment ]
We'll be here if you need any help! If you don't, then... please don't drown us in the water. Or something.
[ Let us live in peace, please, thanks. ]
no subject
[...hmmm...]
And if we are causing problems, try to let us know in a way that doesn't involve drowning us! Just tell us and we'll do what we can to fix it!
no subject
Looks like we're okay for now. I'll try not to cause any trouble so it'll stay that way.
no subject
[SWEET POSE!]
no subject
Yeah, same.

...
Say, you've got the spirit! I guess you could be a ranger too!
no subject
[ IS THAT ALL IT TAKES ]
Then, yeah. I'd like to learn how to be a ranger.

[ Minato's current forestry knowledge: "this is a tree" /gestures at a tree
so he's got a lot to pick up. ]

[he’s going to head on off towards the forest without stopping to see if Minato is following......!]
