Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.



Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

[ Maybe you're near tent 8 for some reason--you're passing by to go somewhere else, or maybe you need one of the residents. Or maybe you live in said tent. Either way, you might witness something incredible when Laurent opens the mailbox today. Lots of clothes come flying out along with a *couch* that seemed to pop out of nowhere, but it sure did hit Laurent almost square in the face.

He's under the couch with clothes everywhere. What a strange... sight...

Everything hurts. Nothing is beautiful. ]

[Oh. Oh geez.]

You didn't break anything, did you?

[Either himself or...the couch...]

... A moment.

[ What he meant to say was "I need a moment", but. Yeah. He's going to try and squirm out under the couch but to no avail. ]

[Poor guy... While she could just let him lay there and suffer, she decides to take pity on him and lift a corner of the couch. It's not easy, but those guns aren't for show!]

What even happened?

[ kyaa adelaide-sama... Laurent takes the opportunity to squirm out from underneath the couch so that he can finally be free. Everything still hurts. ]

I was opening the mailbox and the couch flew at me, along with some clothes.

[Well that's a story... As soon as Laurent's free, she sets the couch down and raises an eyebrow.]

A couch and clothes... Was there any note saying who it's from?

[ Oh my god. ]

A-are you alright?

My face hurts.

[ The ever smiling face is just twisted to one full of pain now. ]

Can you try moving it a little...?

[ Oh, no, she feels so bad for him. Her ears twitch a little, and she manages to move the couch a bit.... ]

How did this happen?

[conceptualize]

I opened the mailbox and a bunch of clothes and a couch flew out.

[ Or at least... he thinks so? The couch is pretty big so it obscured a lot of his vision when it flung at him. When the couch moves, he feels it skidding on his back. ]

You should be careful too... when you open yours.

[ Oh... She manages to move it just enough, at least. She's not exactly weak, but like. Couch. ]

You'd think there would've been some sort of warning... Are you hurt very badly?

[Sure looks awfully familiar.

I'm--

[ --not fine. He wants to say he's fine, but he can't say that either. He's miraculously not bleeding, but that sure is gonna leave a mark since he bruises easily. ]

Can you help me out?

I can do that... I'll try moving the couch a little, so stay still.

[She's not miraculously strong but she can do at least this much.]

I didn't know that this would show up here, I feel like I should be apologizing for couch-san's sake.

[ The couch is pretty much skidding across Laurent's back as it moves. He more or less expected this, but it doesn't hurt any less. ]

Please tell couch-san to not ram into me again in the future.

[ Joonghyuk saw all of that, but he isn't going to do anything about it. I just wanted to comment.]

[ When Laurent looks up, he'll stare at him.

Are those thick muscles just for show, you mola ]

[ These thick muscles are behind a cute grey snowflake sweater which is out of season. Joonghyuk stares back and takes a sip of his water. ]

What do you want?

Some help would be nice, sir bodyguard.

[ It really is out of season... and Laurent holds back a laugh. ]

I'm not anyone's bodyguard.

[ He's just overprotective to a fault. Maybe if Laurent calls him by his name he would help. ]

[And Laurent is trapped?! She's gonna try to help by lifting the couch a tiiiiiiny bit.]

Are you ok?

I'm mostly okay.

[ Yeah, let's just leave it at that. Laurent tries to crawl out when Sonico lifts it up a little, but he can barely move. ]

Sorry, you can let it down slowly. I'll just stay here for a bit.

[ He's giving up already... ]

[ Sonico... what a good girl. Though when the couch moves, Laurent feels it scraping against his back. He tries really hard not to let it show, but it kinda hurts when he just got rammed with the same furniture.
