Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.



Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

[ And his pocket watch? Which is a bit personal, so he doesn't mention it. The other two are related to survival. ]

[ Huh. To Laurent, Joonghyuk fits the image of punching opponents to death or firing a gun. But a sword might as well work too. ]

You probably won't need it here though. Or maybe... someone else will get it in their mailbox somehow.

[ Joonghyuk's tail lashes when he hears there's a chance his sword might be sent to someone else. His expression darkens, too, but he doesn't touch on it. If it does appear in someone's hands...

Well.

He's going to take it back. ]

... How do you know? Anything can happen, seeing that we've been brought from different worlds here.

Also, my sword can replace many tools.

[ It's kinda like using a katana to style someone's hair. Pretty cool, but very impractical. Laurent doesn't mention it though, and only gives him a knowing smile.

This is probably why some of Laurent's friends think he's shady. ]

You purposely make yourself look suspicious.

[ His glare is quite poignant. If only he had Sage's Eye right now, but based on patterns, Laurent shouldn't be someone to worry about.

[ It could be worse? Seeing that he's the one that picked jail... So. ]

Being unapproachable doesn't matter.

[ Based on his sweater, but. He's free to take it any other way. He already thanked him and gave him a hat. He owes nothing now. ]

[ He's thinking Laurent is better under the couch. ]

It's comfortable and part of the spares they provided.

[ What can he do? Also, it doesn't look too silly. ]

[ He's sure someone else thinks Joonghyuk looks better sprawled on it. ]

Isn't it too hot for a sweater though?

It's a thin sweater. [ Like cashmere sweaters? ] My other clothes are out to dry.

[ Speaking of clothes. You know what? He'll pull out a grape hat from his knapsack and throw it to Laurent. That's yours now. ]

[ Laurent is pretty sure Joonghyuk can just be shirtless if he wanted to, but--his thoughts are interrupted by a grape hat. Instead of him getting smacked in the face, he catches it. ]

You want me to wear this?

[ Thank you for your adult approval, Laurent. He will stay clothed for now. ]

[ Not you can wear it. He just doesn't want it. ]

[ Which is weird and lends to something he's wondered about this place. ]

I assume you're not entirely new to the whole magic thing, since you normally wield a sword.

[ He guesses it doesn't matter if he tells. Maybe he could learn more about Laurent, whether he's a clown or actually a deity of some kind.

My world used to be normal before the < Star Stream > appeared.

Laurent looks pretty interested in what Joonghyuk is saying though. ]

And what is the Star Stream?

[ I meant latter, but probably either would earn Joonghyuk's murderous intent. The language they understand and are forced to understand is weird, so he wonders how this will come out. ]

It's a system created by the Goblin Bureau to entertain the Constellations—gods. With the system implemented, they livestream the "scenarios," trials, for every affected world for the Constellations' entertainment. Whatever makes the scenarios more interesting is always favored, so many humans are given attributes and skills to survive. The more violent, the better.

Usually, the scenarios push the world toward an apocalypse.

[ Ah. Laurent finally understands why Joonghyuk was seeping murderous intent on the first day with the joke. It's really no wonder if he had to deal with that sort of atrocity. Laurent feels like he can unfortunately relate... at least on a partial level. ]

Something like a reality show except nothing is scripted, huh? I heard you had monsters too, so I assume that's also due to the Star Stream.

Yes, monsters are common in the early scenarios, though the real threat is other people.

[ Which maybe explains why Joonghyuk is... Unapproachable. ]
