Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

[ Which is weird and lends to something he's wondered about this place. ]

I assume you're not entirely new to the whole magic thing, since you normally wield a sword.

[ He guesses it doesn't matter if he tells. Maybe he could learn more about Laurent, whether he's a clown or actually a deity of some kind.

Maybe plot to kill him if it's the former. ]

My world used to be normal before the < Star Stream > appeared.

[ And not the latter??

Laurent looks pretty interested in what Joonghyuk is saying though. ]

And what is the Star Stream?

[ I meant latter, but probably either would earn Joonghyuk's murderous intent. The language they understand and are forced to understand is weird, so he wonders how this will come out. ]

It's a system created by the Goblin Bureau to entertain the Constellations—gods. With the system implemented, they livestream the "scenarios," trials, for every affected world for the Constellations' entertainment. Whatever makes the scenarios more interesting is always favored, so many humans are given attributes and skills to survive. The more violent, the better.

Usually, the scenarios push the world toward an apocalypse.

[ Ah. Laurent finally understands why Joonghyuk was seeping murderous intent on the first day with the joke. It's really no wonder if he had to deal with that sort of atrocity. Laurent feels like he can unfortunately relate... at least on a partial level. ]

Something like a reality show except nothing is scripted, huh? I heard you had monsters too, so I assume that's also due to the Star Stream.

Yes, monsters are common in the early scenarios, though the real threat is other people.

[ Which maybe explains why Joonghyuk is... Unapproachable. ]

"Humans are the real monsters"... is that right?

[ They might as well be. ]

No, gods are.

[ He would never fault humans for their shortcomings. It's just who they are. ]

[ Laurent laughs a little. If only he heard that, then he would say gods are the same. ]

Gods are pretty human-like despite looking down on them, don't you think?

Several were humans, but ascended due to the strength of their Fables.

[ So "gods" isn't really a good word for it, but Joonghyuk couldn't find a better shorthand. ]

They've forgotten their roots.

[ He peers up at him from where he sits. ]

Are humans really all that great?

No.

[ Humans are terrible in their own right. He doesn't think they're that great, but... ]

We are merely trying to survive.

If humans had to make other humans into their playthings, does that make them the same as your gods? Or would you excuse everything for the sake of survival against ones who don't as if they had a choice and you don't?

[ How does he answer that? He can't be the sword of justice and punish all evil-doers. Likewise, he can't save every single person... Even then, he's guilty of sacrificing lives for his own survival. ]

Sometimes to kill a star you must become a star.

[ Laurent just smiles at that. ]

Then, Yoo Joonghyuk, are you a "star"?

... No, I'm Yoo Joonghyuk.

[ I hope you enjoyed this Trademark Line. Anyway, he's done talking about himself. ]

[ What is your story? ]

[ Oh, no. Laurent acts as if he's allergic talking about himself with the way he's always vague and making truths sound like a joke. That said, he thinks a little. ]

Laurent Heath, your average teaching assistant and a dealer on the side--now on a break on a deserted island and being pelted by furniture.

So you choose to hide.

[ Like Kim Dokja, but he doesn’t say that. In the end, he didn’t lose anything out of telling Laurent. It’s fine. ]

No normal person would be so calm in response to what I explained.

Maybe I wouldn't be so calm if it was my reality, but it isn't.
