WEEK 1 LOG ♬
Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

[ He's just overprotective to a fault. Maybe if Laurent calls him by his name he would help. ]

[ He wanted to tease him a bit more, but fiiiine. Laurent doesn't like how the couch keeps him on the ground, so he'll have to make do. He makes a slightly exaggerated sigh. ]

Oh, mister wonderful chef Joonghyuk, please get the couch off me.

The couch looks comfortable.

[ The implication is he might sit on it if Laurent doesn't ask politely. ]

Please don't. I'm quite fragile.

You seem to be lasting long enough.

[ Walking over, he digs his boot under the couch and lifts it a bit. Squirm out like the worm you are. ]

[ Wow... Laurent crawls his way out, but god. Everything hurts. After he makes it out, he sits up and quietly breathes outward. ]

Thanks. Want a hat for your troubles?

[ He gestures to the clothes and other items strewn about everywhere. ]

[ Hat. What he sees is a baseball cap which is all right. It should keep him cool as he works outside, so yes. He takes that after he lets the couch fall back down. ]

They couldn't have mailed everything to you in boxes?

Is that what they did for you?

[ Because he thinks that snowflake sweater is really out of place. ]

Must have been nice.

[ The sweater was given to him in the supplies......... Please. ]

Yes, they were also attached to letters. [ So he had an easy time opening one by one? ] But I didn't receive something like a couch.

[ Hm. ]

Where will you put it?

In the tent.

[ As if that's obvious-- ]

I think my tentmates will like it better than I do. What did you get?

The only things worth mentioning is the water cooler and a washtub DIY.

[ Based on how the tip of Joonghyuk's tail flicks back and forth, he seems pleased about the washtub. He wants an better way to wash clothes, after all. ]

... There was also this recorder that might have belonged to someone.

[ Which is weird. ]

A recorder?

[ That seems... oddly personal. Hm. ]

Don't know who it belongs to?

[ Joonghyuk Yoo is no longer the Supreme King. He's the Cardboard King. ]

I don't.

[ But he wonders if it could belong to anyone here. Considering he didn't arrive with his coat, let alone his sword, he wonders where they went. ]

Were you missing anything when you arrived?

[ His powers.

But him being anything other than a human is going to be treated as nothing but a joke, because that's how he wants it to be. ]

I didn't have much on me, so I'm not missing anything. I'm guessing you are?

[ He crosses his arms... ]

My coat and my sword.

[ And his pocket watch? Which is a bit personal, so he doesn't mention it. The other two are related to survival. ]

Your sword.

[ Huh. To Laurent, Joonghyuk fits the image of punching opponents to death or firing a gun. But a sword might as well work too. ]

You probably won't need it here though. Or maybe... someone else will get it in their mailbox somehow.

[ Joonghyuk's tail lashes when he hears there's a chance his sword might be sent to someone else. His expression darkens, too, but he doesn't touch on it. If it does appear in someone's hands...

Well.

He's going to take it back. ]

... How do you know? Anything can happen, seeing that we've been brought from different worlds here.

[ ... ]

Also, my sword can replace many tools.

[ It's kinda like using a katana to style someone's hair. Pretty cool, but very impractical. Laurent doesn't mention it though, and only gives him a knowing smile.

This is probably why some of Laurent's friends think he's shady. ]

You purposely make yourself look suspicious.

[ His glare is quite poignant. If only he had Sage's Eye right now, but based on patterns, Laurent shouldn't be someone to worry about.

[ Laurent just keeps smiling. ]

[ It could be worse? Seeing that he's the one that picked jail... So. ]

[ Based on his sweater, but. He's free to take it any other way. He already thanked him and gave him a hat. He owes nothing now. ]

[ He's thinking Laurent is better under the couch. ]

[ He's sure someone else thinks Joonghyuk looks better sprawled on it. ]

[ OKAY??? THANKS???? ]

It's a thin sweater. [ Like cashmere sweaters? ] My other clothes are out to dry.

[ Speaking of clothes. You know what? He'll pull out a grape hat from his knapsack and throw it to Laurent. That's yours now. ]
