Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Fine..............
I'll figure out how to make things work.
Are things fitting you?
Need anything?

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing in particular so far. I'm planning to announce something like a beach buffet party some time later today, so you should come and enjoy the free food and entertainment.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Will there be hermit crab racing?
conceptualize: (pic#14102719)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's enough interest, I can always catch some for the race.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There's enough interest.
From me.

[ that should be enough, come on ]
conceptualize: (pic#14102733)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. Since I like you so much, I'll even go catch some right now, this very second.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Weird reason to do something.
When is it?
conceptualize: (pic#14102678)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at all. Sometimes you just want to do things for people.

It's tonight at the beach near the airport.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't make it less weird.
I'll be by the airport.
Door's open now.
conceptualize: (pic#14101292)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Haven't had people do things for you just because they wanted to?

[ And Laurent will start making his way to the airport because that sounds rather Ominous. ]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know.
Not in the habit of asking people why they do things.
conceptualize: (pic#14102671)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Honestly, that's fair. Laurent merely sends a simple ":)" as a reply text and sees Minato by the airport. ]

Hey, what's that about the airport being open now?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Like I said. It's open now.

[ There's not much more to explain about it- there's still just the cloth covering where the door is, let's just say this is before Serval takes up the responsibility of replacing the door because Minato would not have on his own.

Pushing the cloth aside, it sure does look like somebody just hulk smashed their way through it. ]
conceptualize: (pic#14102736)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...

Once Laurent gets there, he can't help but to stare at the "open door".
]

Do you know who tried to break in?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Does it matter?

[ They can contemplate the door for ages, but that would only out Minato, so instead, he tilts a head towards the opening and goes ahead and ducks in first, pulling the conversation inside. ]
conceptualize: (pic#14102678)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it might.

[ He follows Minato inside the airport. It looks pretty cozy, which... should have been expected, considering how this place is. ]

I wouldn't want an uprising on the island after all.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's dark inside, especially when the cloth covering swings back to obscure the doorway whereas before, Minato and Serval had the sunlight from outside streaming through the gap to help them see around the service desk. A calendar sits at eye level, flipped to July and denoting the 20th with a drawn star, and the desk drawer has been properly closed.

Minato stands back and doesn't touch anything, hands in his pockets. ]

It'd be interesting... but futile. Nothing to rise against, right now.

[ They could beat up Tom Nook and then what? They'd still be as stuck as they would be right now, so there's no point. ]
conceptualize: (pic#14102708)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And that's exactly why I wouldn't want one.

[ Because it's useless. It would be fun to watch, but there's really nothing after. He'd rather his entertainment go on a little longer than that.

He looks around and takes note of the calendar. According to his phone, it's July 3rd. He wonders if there will be something interesting happening on the 20th, a Monday. Well, he'll think about this later.
]

The plot thickens.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Is there nothing to be said about the safety and wellbeing of the island residents, Laurent?? Apparently not to Minato either, glancing from the calendar to around Laurent's shoulder at his phone. And here Minato was thinking it was just an old calendar from however long ago, with no year listed to corroborate anything. ]

At least there's a plot... It's not surprising, though. Take a look in the drawer. Tom Nook said he doesn't know how we got here. I dunno if that's the full truth.

[ Maybe Tom Nook doesn't know, but somebody does, according to this stack of passports. ]
conceptualize: (pic#14102706)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Detachment is an art...

Laurent gives Nook the benefit of the doubt, but he honestly doesn't care about going back home, so. That's that. Though he is curious too, so he attempts to open the drawer to take a look inside.
]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Assuming nobody's taken them, there's the stack of passports. Foolishly, on hindsight, Minato's passport sits on the top, followed by Serval's, because those were the two he pulled out of the stack to look at to start.

He says nothing. ]
conceptualize: (Default)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh no, Minato. Why is your passport on top? Must be some kind of coincidence, right? Hahaha...

It doesn't escape Laurent's notice, but he doesn't say anything about it. Instead, he goes through the other passports. Some of these people sure come from uniquely named places. He also takes note of the strange titles everyone has. Another thing he finds strange is that he doesn't remember taking a picture for this thing.
]

Want to take a closer look?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ A coincidence is entirely possible, with no real pattern to the order of rest of the passports. Minato holds his hand out for the stack, having only given them a rudimentary look before outside of the two on top.

He goes ahead and finds Laurent's. America. Occasional Caretaker. ]

...Do you move around a lot?
conceptualize: (pic#14102703)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-03 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on what you mean by that.

[ It could mean a bunch of things, so if Minato wants a slightly more direct answer, he would have to specify. ]

I wonder what they mean by "something or other" though.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Living in different places. Yours lists a country. Maybe you're a hobo...? It's okay if you are.

[ On the flip side, Minato's passport lists his most current city, although it could also refer to his birthplace. Laurent is just "America"... maybe he was born in a plane or something and couldn't be claimed by a specific city or state. ]

"Something or other" sounds about right, though.
