Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

EMPORIO - ALL WEEK!!

[personal profile] seacub 2020-06-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[SELL SELL SELL! (ALL WEEK)]

H-FF!

[Catching and Almost Catching bugs didn't seem like the first idea most would have, but Emporio can't help but feel like there's a good reason it's there so he can be spotted at various times of the day, all week, swinging that net of his around rather often.

And honestly, he thinks he's doing quite well with...whatever that reason for bug nets is. He's not entirely sure, but well...he did say he'd buy anything, and maybe there's good reason TO buy these. Emporio almost shows off what is definitely a rather lovely flying insect of some kind. It's hard to tell if he meant to display it this way, or if he's just sort of holding it. Regardless.
] There's an awful lot of different bugs out here...

...I wonder what 'special features' we're supposed to end up using those bells for though...

[...Well, it's sort of fun at least. And honestly, he's never really had the time to just. Have that kind of fun so.]
sugooooooooi: Driving poorly. (wheee)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-06-30 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno! Tsuchinoko-chan said "money" used to be used in the olden days to get things. Maybe they'll give us more food!
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
...Tsuchinoko?

[wait he should back up.] I don't think they're going to make us pay for the food... ...you didn't have money though?
sugooooooooi: Giving a thumbs up. (leave it to me)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
No? We just find things in the wilderness, like we're doing right now!
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! ...So...you were always camping?
sugooooooooi: Nervous laughter. (i don't get it)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
No, I live in a wildlife park! We don't really have houses or anything -- oh, except Beaver-san and Prairie Dog-san. They built one when they saw a picture of it. But I heard humans live in those a lot.
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
[....It occurs to him that if he's a sheep, maybe animals could appear here and be made something else too.

That's so weird...
] Oh...

...I guess if they saw a picture that makes sense? [He thinks.] Um...a house is sort of...any place where someone lives, that's their own I think. If it had a lot of other people in their own space, it'd be an apartment, or something else...
sugooooooooi: Laying down, pondering something. (just a thought)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-01 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean if I sleep in a tree, then that tree is my house?
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm....

I guess so. As long as it's always the same tree, anyway...
sugooooooooi: Looking over to someone, confused. (do you think they actually have staples)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Then I guess I don't, since sometimes it's a different tree. Oh, but now we have tents!
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah!

You use tents for camping... ...They aren't really supposed to stay in the same spot all the time, [he explains.] I think these ones are, but from what Mister Nook said, I sort of wonder if the plan isn't to eventually put houses here...
sugooooooooi: Laying down, pondering something. (just a thought)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-01 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Because we were supposed to live here, right? Do you think we'll all still be sharing then?
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's a good question... ...I guess if everyone was here that long maybe, but it takes a while to build a whole house...

showing off the bug

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Sonico is just... frozen in place, looking at the bug in horror.]

C-can you put it away?
seacub: (AnxietyBoy prevails)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Eh?

[uh] Oh...sorry. I don't know if it's safe in the bag though...

[He looks worriedly at the rather large moth he's captured.]
pinkmacaron: (S38)

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Why not l-let go of it?

[there's no reason to keep a moth, right little sheep?]
seacub: ('boy i sure hope nothin bad happens')

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
The moth..?

...I was going to show Mister Nook...he seemed sort of excited about some of the bugs I found, like he didn't expect them to be here...

[Though he's not sure if that was partly because he was the one bringing them or not. Maybe Nook is just trying to be nice? He's not sure.]
pinkmacaron: (31)

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Then go show him as fast as possible!

[MOTHS ARE TERRIFYING.]

Maybe he'll have a bottle to put it in?
seacub: (: O)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Is it really Sonico???]

A...A bottle..?

Wouldn't it suffocate..?
pinkmacaron: (S62)

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
....Maybe if you put holes on the lid, it won't!
seacub: ('boy i sure hope nothin bad happens')

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I guess so..?

...a jar feels really small, but if it's only temporary...
pinkmacaron: (S07)

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Jars can be of any size!

[and it will get the moth... Out of her view.]
seacub: (: O)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
R-Really..?

[HE...HE WOULDN'T KNOW...]
pinkmacaron: (S19)

[personal profile] pinkmacaron 2020-07-01 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Most bugs can survive in jars with holes on the top and something bigger can just get a bigger jar!
seacub: (who put baby in the trash)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-01 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[That tells him nothing about the size limit of jars!

...Also-
] ....So... ...We just have to hope Mister Nook has one then...

...It wouldn't make a lot of sense to look for a jar here while holding this...
