Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[HE...HE WOULDN'T KNOW...]

...Also-] ....So... ...We just have to hope Mister Nook has one then...
...It wouldn't make a lot of sense to look for a jar here while holding this...
no subject
[Scary month will be in his hand the whole time then.]
Should we go see mister Nook?
no subject
[Let's see...] He'll probably be at the Services tent...he seems to try staying near there in case anyone needs something.
no subject
[Sonico will start walking towards the tent, and look at Emporio and smile.]
I don't think I introduced myself [Bugs are scary ok?] but I'm Sonico, nice to meet you!
no subject
...Um- [Oh, introductions- he'll focus on that while walking along to the tent.] I'm Emporio- it's nice to meet you too! ...Have...um, what have you been doing on the island?
no subject
[She smiles, walking with her arms behind her back.]
I've been collecting weeds and selling them to mister Nook! Also trying to fish!
no subject
[Huh.] Hm. I almost wonder if we shouldn't try to do something with those instead of just giving him them as they are... [He can't think of what just yet though...hm.]
no subject
[and he's bought weeds!]
no subject
[Well at least the tent is in sight. They can get rid of this moth.]
no subject
[Who knows what might happen in an island.]
no subject
[By the time he's trailed off long enough that he feels he should think of something else, they're at the tent. There's no fuss or muss given as things are turned over- just a bunch of bells, before Emporio looks to the ATM.]
...Do you think we should try using that thing..?
no subject
[She nods.]
Do you know how to use it?
no subject
no subject
[Sonico is off to the side, avoiding seeing the screen unless Emporio asks for help.]
That makes it a lot easier!
no subject
[The phone taps, and the menu clicks on.]
...It looks like the most we can do is store and withdraw money... [There's a slight grunt as he stretches to see where the drop slot is for the bells.] I think there?
I'll access the account to check.
no subject
Yes! we can't do anything else, but it'll save our money for later!
no subject
[He strains to reach to drop his bells in.] I just need to get them all...in...
no subject
[Well done, Emporio!]
Are you going to go back to find more bugs?
no subject
[but he will,]
no subject
[She pats the sheep's head because he looks so soft!]
Catch bugs to your heart's content!
no subject
I guess so...still, I think I'll try..!
And...thank's for helping with these bugs...
no subject
[She's fidgets for a moment, then decides to ask anyway.]
Is it ok if I hug you? You're just so soft!
no subject
[And he was About to head off when-
what] Uh-
[Oh. Yes. He is a sheep, isn't he.] ...I guess that's okay?
[Like a walking plush toy...]
