Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[ A little while later, Kaede is heading towards the tent with a new black messenger bag stuffed to the brim with a few things. She's also super careful to not step on the garden. ]
Hey! I have everything in here. [ She pats the bag. ]
no subject
[ He's sitting in front of the tent, on top of a long air conditioning unit that isn't turned on, but works well enough as a bench for people to sit on. By his side is a golf bag containing a lot of the things he received from the mailbox to hold out to Kaede so she can look through what's there. ]
The hat would look cute on you. There's tights, too, if your socks are wearing thin. There's a swimsuit? A wetsuit.
no subject
I think the tights would be really useful! [ All that walking has her a little worried about her socks wearing down. She picks up the hat. ]
You really think it'd look good?
no subject
[ He can't wear most of them, horns getting in the way of a hat, unable to wear a dress for his wings, and the pants an uncomfortable fit with his tail unless there's a sewing kit anywhere to make alterations. But he's not too picky to find things for himself- most of his shopping back home was with others in mind anyways- and so he takes the hat from Kaede's hands to plop it down on top of her head. ]
Yep, just like I thought. Bright, reminds me of spring.
no subject
[ Which... means the hat does serve its purpose, she supposes. ]
I got a few other things too, like a bunk bed and a tea set. But they're too big to bring, and I think my roommates would be really happy to have them.
[ She reaches over to her bag, pulling out a bandaid. ]
I also got this, if you want it!
no subject
[ something something weed rights
He takes the bandaid in his hand and stares at it. Considering their first meeting and how immediately he got banged up... this is probably the most useful thing on the island for him. ]
Trade you the tights for these. And the hat for... do you have any clay?
no subject
[ She smiles when he takes the bandaid. She couldn't get him a pillow but... a bandaid after the fact should do, right?
Kaede shakes her head. ]
No, I don't have any. I could try getting some, though! You could hold onto the hat in the meantime.
no subject
[ This skeleton is going to be better dressed than him before long. Minato puts the bandaid into a side pocket of his knapsack, and from the same pocket he pulls out one of the DIY recipes he has, the one for the ocarina. ]
The clay is to make this. I'm also looking for somebody who knows how to carve a guitar out of a tree trunk.
no subject
[ And that reminds her, he did mention a skeleton. ] So... Where is the skeleton?
no subject
[ But yeah, the skeleton- Minato leads her over to it: it's just by the garden beside the tent, which he gives a wide berth so he doesn't accidentally step on any of the plants in it. Situated behind it is the skeleton that's been set up like some sort of scarecrow, with the scariest part being the swimming shorts hugging its hips. ]
no subject
Wow, what an interesting fashion sense. Did you get those shorts too?
no subject
No, they were Theo's, from the mailbox. ...Or maybe it was just his, I don't know.
no subject
[ But hey, more power to him. She doesn't really want to get closer to it, although she's tempted. She's not sure if the shorts are what's deterring her or not. ]
Is it just a plastic model?
no subject
Haven't determined either way yet. It's got weight to it, and seems accurate, but I don't know enough about skeletons to know. Do you?
no subject
No. I've actually never seen a skeleton in person before...
no subject
[ In his heart of hearts, though, he will believe that it's real. ]
Wonder why we're being given this stuff, though. Or more like... We're not supposed to be here. Somebody else is. Wonder what they're like.
no subject
Do you think they'll ever show up? Since there was a mistake with all of us, it'll probably be fixed eventually.
no subject
[ Tom Nook's making them weed the island. Everything points to getting it prepared so something/someone. ]
no subject
[ She pauses. ] But it's better if everyone gets to go back as soon as possible anyway.
no subject
[ He's not too much in a hurry, but he doesn't want to stay here forever either. Two months... ]
Do you have something pressing you're missing back home?
no subject
Kind of. I... don't want to go back, but I think it might be worth it.
[ She looks down at the ground briefly. ]
What about you?
no subject
Hm... I want to go back, but I'm a little scared to. It'd be nice if this were just a time and place outside of reality, like a dream. But I think, in the end, we need to go back. Everybody's lives back home, they won't be the same without us there.
no subject
[ She shakes her head. Dwelling on it doesn't do anything. ]
I hope things work out for you when you go home.
no subject
As long as you lived, you made a difference.
[ It's what he likes to think, about himself, about how long it took for him to think that about himself. He can't say anything about helping, but mattering- there's little question about mattering. ]
When I go home, there will be two months before the end of humanity. The death of everybody on the planet. I don't know how it's supposed to work out.
no subject
She smiles softly. ]
All you can do is your best, and what you think is the right thing. I don't think it will make a difference, but I'll be rooting for you from wherever I end up going after this.
