Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

BEACH PARTY
There's an assortment of seasoned seared fish with an optional dark sauce (it's made of crushed ants. seasoning, and cooked milk, but it's very difficult to tell), tartar sauce, or tomato-based sauce. There is also a light white-fish and clam soup. Lastly, there are salads topped off with apples and edible weeds (bitterness adds to the sweet and savory). The dressings are improvised because they don't have oil or vinegar... Not exactly right, but it works?
For! Dessert! We have cored apples filled with (more) baked apples and sweet potatoes, drizzled in caramel and sprinkled with cinnamon and a bit of salt. ]
FISHING TOURNAMENT
Deadline is today, 7:30 pm est.
Joonghyuk will be providing bait for all who need. ]

He'll try ocean fishing with the whale shark he caught earlier in the week on mind. If he's lucky, he might get another one. And if not.. well, could make a good meal or sell whatever it is? ]

HERMIT CRAB DERBY
1. Have your character bet on a hermit crab #1-4. Only one can be chosen per character.
2. Minimum bet entry is 100 bells. They can drop off their bells in something that looks like a small cardboard box. Just mention that they're entering with how much they're paying, preferably in bold.
3. Winner will be RNG'd at 7:30 PM EST! (I'll do it)
4. If there are multiple people who picked a winning hermit crab, the prize money will be divided in how many people chose that hermit crab.
5. Winner(s) will be gifted an additional 500 bells.
Make some easy money while you're here!! Discuss which hermit crab will win, how stupid this idea is but you're here for the money anyway, or just watch people bet money on tiny hermit crabs.
Also, hermit crabs will not dig into the sand and disappear forever. They're on grass, not sand. Still very close to the beach though. You are not allowed to touch the hermit crabs or suffer the consequences. Laurent will be watching. :) ]

He's dressed pretty lightly--swimming trunks and a t-shirt. You'll most likely find him a little distant from people or on the shoreline where small waves are crashing in. It feels nice on his feet. ]

She flitters around the beach, taking a moment to appreciate the food and really get a grasp of what's going on here. She seems to be in bright spirits! She certainly has a smile for everyone she sees, anyways.]

That said, she seems in pretty high spirits tonight, picking at the fish a bit more than she normally would and waving people over if they seem to be wandering over to the party itself.]
