Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Anything can be a swimsuit.
Will have to be careful getting it on.

your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should
it's...quite the swimsuit
tbh I just don't want to be the one stuck with it

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No better reason to do something than the simple fact that you can.
I'm still by the garden.
Let's see it.

[It doesn't take too long for Theo to come back around to their tent, doing an inspection on the skeleton warden and giving an approving nod. Beautiful. Buddy'd keep the weeds safe and sound for sure.

...Their tent was going to get a reputation, maybe, but that was honestly fine.]

Prepare your eyes, I mean it...

[Because even when no one's wearing it, the swimsuit is pretty bad.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh my god. This is the perfect example of "anything can be a swimsuit if you try hard enough."

Minato doesn't even want to touch it; he carefully lifts the skeleton's legs and points them at Theo feet first. Slide 'em on. ]

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[...He knows it was his suggestion and all, but it still feels incredibly weird. Just gonna take a little pause for himself, hm.]

We're reasonably sure this isn't desecration, right? Suck to get cursed for the sake of a joke.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...

[ The skeleton's legs lower half an inch, whether that's because Minato hesitates too or because he's already getting tired holding them up. ]

It'll be worth it. Probably.
aggroculture: (75)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[He raises an eyebrow, then shrugs it off. If he is cursed... Well, just because he didn't have access to his magic didn't mean he didn't still have knowledge of which plants could help cleanse him of that a bit.

Time to dress a skeleton in a jimsuit (jeans swinsuit.)]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ They're already stuck on a weird island with replaced ears and stuff; there's only so much cursed a person can be.

The skeleton looks predictably stupid with the jimsuit, even after Minato pulls at it to make sure it won't fall off the hips too easily. ]

...nobody's going to want to come near this thing. Your garden's never been safer.
aggroculture: (27)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[The material hugs the hips pretty good even when the other layers are missing, thanks skin-hugging material. Theo steps back to appraise it again.]

For real. Got this really weird theater outfit, too, but it ain't as much of a deterrent as this. We did good!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yay... The shared praise makes him stand a little straighter, proud of what they accomplished here. ]

Lucky. I don't have anything much better than this.

[ Really, nothing can beat the jimsuit, but- ducking into the tent and reaching for a pile in the corner- he pulls his hand back out carrying a pair of sunglasses that he perches on top of the skeleton's face. No ears, no nose, it promptly slides off and catches on its ribs, and Minato readjusts the glasses to clip on one the clavicles. ]

Yes? No?
aggroculture: (59)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh -- ]

No -- gimme. I'll trade you?

[He wants! Sunglasses!! He misses his own.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Sure.

[ It's one of the few things that will actually fit on him, but he would also never wear it, so he plucks it off the rib rack and hands it over to Theo. ]

What do you have? Any clay?
aggroculture: (72)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yay, he's so happy...! Theo's face lights up a bit as he takes the sunglasses and puts them on, even if...hm. He doesn't have clay... That involves actually making an effort to find resources.]

Hm? Not much, right now... [So why did he offer to trade, again... But he can pull out the odd suit he'd already mentioned, as well as a card.] Just these, really, and that thing I hung up in our tent.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The suit is too fancy for Minato's tastes and he isn't sure how it'd fit on him anyways, and the card... It's always good to know that putting cardboard boxes together creates cardboard boxes. He can store that tip in his head without the physical card. ]

The tapestry is pretty nice... I know somebody who would love it. But let's leave it where it is for now. You can have the glasses, and if you ever come across clay, you can give it to me later.
aggroculture: (43)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah...yeah. Outside of the sandals -- already on his feet -- and the card that told him how to make a cute dress nonsensically out of fruit before it disappeared, he kinda got a pile of crap from those mysterious wannabe Santas.]

You got it, Snapdragon, thanks. [Sunglasses...] What's it for, anyway?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The glasses? Keeps you from being blinded from the sun. Blocks UV rays for a less chance of [ skin cancer? ] eye cancer.
aggroculture: (9)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[what]

No -- mostly. I mean, you've got the basic idea right, but that wasn't what I asked. I meant the clay, what do you need the clay for?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Instead of explaining, Minato picks at the pocket of his knapsack for the right DIY recipe, and hands over the one for the ocarina. ]
aggroculture: (20)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Theo glances at it, raising an eyebrow as he passes it back.]

One of those Ren faire...video game instruments, huh. You actually play anything?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I do. Violin.

[ Preeeeeeeesumably also ocarina? He is absolutely sure he can figure it out. There's only six holes, so that's like. idk it's too hot to do the math rn but maybe only a couple hundred combinations of possible notes. ]
aggroculture: (19)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-03 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[He makes a noise that might be acknowledgement or a sign of being k pressed, but he doesn't lower that eyebrow just yet.]

Pretty sure strings and winds are different, but what the hell do I know? I can barely carry a tune. Let you know if I find a violin, too... I'll expect a concert.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Music is music and there is plenty of overlap to aid in figuring things out. It's fine! I don't play Animal Crossing so I had to look up whether violins exist and there are violin beetles, close enough. ]

Sure. Sonico was hoping for a guitar too, if you find one. That can probably be played like a violin.
aggroculture: (2)

[personal profile] aggroculture 2020-07-07 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[there is in fact a musical violin as a furniture item but it's expensive as fuck, good luck minato]

I think they call it a cello when it's that big... But yeah, sure, any musical shit and you're the first I'm calling, kid.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-07 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Heck yeah, he struck gold having Theo as a roommate. Meanwhile Theo has to continually wonder whether Minato will kill him in his sleep. ]

Awesome. Should I be on the lookout for anything for you?
