Weather: Clear skies all week!

Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.



Possible Objectives

1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

Because there is a lot of items coming out of the mailbox to the point of a specific person drowning in them.

[ Oh my god. In the back of his mind, Minato decides to regulate mail checking duty to Theo instead from now on. These things are booby-trapped and they would all do well to learn to dive out of the way after opening the mailbox. ]

Here, give me your hand... Uh. Both hands.

[ He's going to need both hands, because she's buried under so much stuff, one hand would just make a dislocated shoulder more likely. ]

[ Weird sounds notwithstanding, it's better than fearing her windpipe's been crushed. Minato takes both her hands and hauls—-

He moves aside some of the smaller boxes, and takes her hands to try again. ]

[Well, her hands are going to grab his and she's going to make an attempt to get herself back on her feet before stumbling a bit.]

Whew... Nothing's broken, is there?

[ Bones, he's mostly concerned about, but he also can't help but spare a glance at the literal mountain of gifts that came out of this ...extraplanar mailbox space. ]

[She checks herself over, hopping on one leg, and then the other.]

Nope! Totally fine... well, besides drowning in mailbox items. They really need to get that fixed.

[ Arms and legs work, and that's the most important parts. We'll know about concussions the day after. ]

Yeah... it's a little scary checking them. Wonder if we got spat out in one of these too.

Ah, yeah, a lot of big items can somehow fit in there... it's like hammerspace!

But... do you think it would have spit us far enough to reach the ocean?!

Like hammerspace. Some of these mailboxes are by the beach. And maybe we can get shot out further one at a time. All this stuff here, maybe it dumped out onto the ground because there was too much.

[ He picks up one of the items lying around- the lightswitch. Nothing happens when he flicks the switches on and off. ]

[ Laurent only decided to come back while setting up for the beach party to get some ingredients he stored in the tent and... lord almighty it's another casualty of the mailbox. He might as well return the favor when she helped him out the other day, so he goes over to shift the present boxes away. ]

Hey, are you hurt anywhere?

[ Give him a sign?? ]

[ He sighs out of relief and goes to take her hand after shifting more boxes out of the way.

[ Laurent goes to stack four boxes at a time per pile so that they're easy to reach for and not taking up too much space. ]
