Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

[Well, her hands are going to grab his and she's going to make an attempt to get herself back on her feet before stumbling a bit.]

Oof...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Whew... Nothing's broken, is there?

[ Bones, he's mostly concerned about, but he also can't help but spare a glance at the literal mountain of gifts that came out of this ...extraplanar mailbox space. ]

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm.

[She checks herself over, hopping on one leg, and then the other.]

Nope! Totally fine... well, besides drowning in mailbox items. They really need to get that fixed.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Arms and legs work, and that's the most important parts. We'll know about concussions the day after. ]

Yeah... it's a little scary checking them. Wonder if we got spat out in one of these too.

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, yeah, a lot of big items can somehow fit in there... it's like hammerspace!

But... do you think it would have spit us far enough to reach the ocean?!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Like hammerspace. Some of these mailboxes are by the beach. And maybe we can get shot out further one at a time. All this stuff here, maybe it dumped out onto the ground because there was too much.

[ He picks up one of the items lying around- the lightswitch. Nothing happens when he flicks the switches on and off. ]

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
. . . Maybe I should try putting myself in a present, then.

Ship myself to Yokohama.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There's some pretty large boxes here. We can try.
livefreely: (pic#8087805)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...! And if that doesn't work, we just make a box fort.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a plan. Here, I'll help you unpack everything so we can find a box that fits.

[ It's a win-win no matter what they do, also he gets to be nosy poking through her things... ]
livefreely: (pic#8087803)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Opens a box...]

This is a DIY.

[opens a box]

So's this!

[opens another box]

That's a lot of DIYs!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Minato takes one of the DIYs from her hands and stares at it. ]

We can take two cardboard boxes, and stack them on top of one another to make... small cardboard boxes. Amazing.
livefreely: (pic#13400133)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
But if you take two large cardboard boxes, why would they still make small cardboard boxes?!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's like how when you stir-fry spinach, it shrinks to a tenth of its size.
livefreely: (pic#8087803)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh? Is that how it works?
livefreely: (pic#8087807)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That's super weird...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[ Most things in life are! Minato turns his attention to one of the other boxes. ]

What else is there... This one's pretty hefty- oh. [ He blows dust off a sewing machine and leans back to look at it. ]

Do you know how to use this? That dictator outfit will be a reality yet.
livefreely: (pic#13400178)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-04 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
A sewing machine?

[.........]

[Oh.

Oh no.]

Nope! I only know how to sew by hand.
Edited 2020-07-04 03:09 (UTC)

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ What is that suspicious pause... Minato follows up with a pause of his own, but then turns back to the machine. ]

Maybe we can take the needle and thread from this to use to sew by hand.
livefreely: (pic#8087808)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-04 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
[It's probably nothing!]

Do we have something to do that with, though?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ hm!!!!!

He holds up his hands. Pry it out with the strength of their own hands or something. which they could maaaaaaaaaaybe do, if only for the fact that upon closer look, there is no thread. ]

...maybe we should hold off on this so we don't lose the needle.
livefreely: (pic#13400095)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
I probably should ask if someone else knows how to use this, too!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-04 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[ That's a better idea, asking people for help. It would never have crossed his mind. ]

Yeah, that's a good thing to bring up. It looks useful for everybody here... Hopefully I'd be able to alter clothes to fit better too.
livefreely: (pic#13400215)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-04 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, since you can use it to fix any rips and tears too, probably.
