- The Move-In
You’ve spent the week adjusting to island life by getting to know one another, figuring out what to do with all those presents, gathering your resources and selling them off to Tom Nook. The weekend is finally here, though, and that’s something to celebrate!
...But when you wake up on Saturday, whenever that may be, the environment you’re in is not the tent you remember falling asleep in. Rather, you’re inside of some kind of house with a white wall and ceiling, wood lined across the bottom of the walls. The floor is wood, too, shiny and glossy as the sun rays shine through the one window in your house. Whatever you had lying out in your tents is still arranged in the same general order you had your things in before. Furthermore, you’re still lying on your camping cots with the same people who fell asleep in the tent with you, but if you decide to get up and investigate, you’ll find two other rooms other than the one you’re in.
Facing the door from the inside, if you look to your left, you’ll find...a bathroom! It’s got a basic toilet, sink, and a bathtub with a showerhead for you to use. There are also enough bath towels for each person hanging on a towel rack. The walls are white but the floor in here is tiled instead of wooden. The room across the bathroom, however, is empty. It has the same wallpaper and flooring as the main room you found yourself in.
It’s a small, comfy place you’re staying in, but the real question is… When did this happen? Only one way to find out.
And sure enough, if you’re awake by nine AM, Tom Nook will rally everyone to Resident Services for his morning announcements.
“Good morning, everyone, and welcome to your first weekend on Isle Sonrisa! As you’ve all probably already noticed by now, we were able to upgrade your tents last night into houses! Don’t worry, there is no fee for this upgrade -- but now you finally have a place where you can decorate your house with all the furniture you were able to get in the mail. For any excess items you may have… Might I suggest a yard sard of some sort, hm?”
He tilts his head a little. He thinks this is a good idea!
“Alternatively, houses all come with storage. There’s a small little storage shed in the back of everyone’s houses that can fit many, many items. If you don’t want to sell your items to me or hand them off to someone else, you can store them inside of there.”
Tom Nook nods his head. “Yes, yes. I’d like to suggest that you all take this weekend to decide how to arrange the items you’ve gotten in the mail...and one more thing about those items: You can put them outside, too. For example, oh, an exercise area might be nice…” He sounds a little wistful when he says it, but promptly shakes his head afterwards.
“Ah-! Before I forget...erm… It seems as though one of our friends has unexpectedly left the island. We don’t know where or how he left, you see...but Heimdall is no longer here. We’re still working on figuring out a way to send you all home, and we’re trying to track him down, too.”
He looks very guilty about that, at least. But the moment passes, and he perks up again, smiling at everyone as best as he can. “Alright, that’s it! You can spend the weekend however you’d like to, but with your new homes being built and all the furniture some of you have received, well… It may be a good idea to work on that, no?”
(OOC: Welcome to your first event log! Any questions can be directed to the FAQ. We will no longer be posting log questions and will be funneling them to the FAQ instead for easier access.
Let us know if you have any questions, as always! NPCing will be available after ~3:30PM EST today.)

SUNDAY
Good morning, everyone! We were able to get your shipment of goods last night, based on the list Ren provided. It took some work but you should all have most of the ingredients you've asked for.
[ ...the ones that are common foods, anyway. The following items are unavailable:
Hagakure ramen (there is instant ramen, just not this specific brand)
Chewing soul
Pheromone coffee
Mad Bull (there are Nook Inc. energy drinks instead!) ]

This is the only way Minato can get past the complete and utter disappointment of not having his stupidly specific menu items ]

Sad, but understandable. Minato will drown his sorrows in energy drink. ]
Who wants coffee~
The morning is rainy, so he spends that time indoors grinding some of the beans and testing out the espresso machine. For something just dumped at his doorstep, it's a pretty fancy and quality machine, so it doesn't take long until he manages to get a pretty good cup of espresso from it. There seems to be a milk steamer on it as well, which means cappuccino is definitely an option, but he'll play with that later.
As for normal coffee, it looks like pour over is going to be the way to go. That takes longer to mess with until he's somewhat satisfied with the result, and he still thinks he has a way to go to get it to a point where he's really happy with it. But it's something.
By the time the rain clears off, Ren is....wired from all the taste testing. He proceeds to take some of the materials he's been gathering throughout the week to a workbench, and before long, he's crafted a stall that he brings back to the front of his house. On it he puts the espresso machine, a couple of cups, a small jar of sugar, and a little bucket filled with ice and a carton of milk. Next to him lays his campfire cookware, where he can get water boiling away. The coffee grinder and a can fished from the ocean sits on a small stack of cardboard boxes behind the stall, the can empty so far--he'll try to grind the beans fresh for people, though if it gets busy, he'll pregrind some to speed up the process.
It's definitely far from perfect, but it's infinitely better than what they've had before. And, well, far from Ren to keep the coffee magic to himself.
(That, and he's...actually really looking forward to this. A bit of normalcy in routine, something that reminds him of times back home that he already sorely misses.)
He sticks a little sign on the stall that reads "Leblanc II".
Open for business.]
this fucker
He walks right out the door to the house, turns, sees the stall, and makes a beeline for it. Congratulations, Ren. You have your first customer.]
Is that an espresso machine?
a classy fucker tho
It is. I got it in that big pile of stuff sent to me a few days ago. The most useful of what I got by far, honestly.
he'll hold his pinky out when he drinks it and EVERYTHING
I'll say it's useful. [He looks at the sign.] 'Leblanc II'? I assume there was a 'Leblanc' back home.

But he hangs in there. And the moment the sign is put up, Minato hauls himself off the ground and over to the stall, and sets down a bag of 9830 bells on the counter. ]
no subject
Oh.
Ren looks at the bag of bells, up at Minato, back at the bells, up at Minato--]
That...definitely isn't necessary. I'm not charging for a test run.
[He probably won't be charging at all, honestly. Maybe a tip jar at most.]
no subject
[ His hand leaves the bag and withdraws into his pants pocket, denying Ren the option of returning the money. ]
'sides, it smells good. Not like a test run at all.

He gives Laurent a smile.]
Not an extensive one yet. I've managed to figure out the espresso machine, so there's that, as well as a regular cup of coffee. Nothing fancy, but it does its job.

Right? I'm so glad I was able to get the coffee beans. Getting a grinder and an espresso machine with nothing to use it with was painful.

You look right at home here.

Reminds me of my time in Tokyo. I'd lived in the attic of a cafe for a year, and helped around the place from time to time. I don't think I'm too shabby of a barista because of it.

After a year of living in the attic of a cafe and helping out there, I'd better know what I was doing. If I don't get this right, I'd probably feel my guardian then's disappointment right through dimensions.
