weekend 1 log

WEEKEND 1 LOG
Weather: Saturday AM and PM - cloudy and warm. Sunday AM - rainy, PM - cloudy.

    The Move-In

You’ve spent the week adjusting to island life by getting to know one another, figuring out what to do with all those presents, gathering your resources and selling them off to Tom Nook. The weekend is finally here, though, and that’s something to celebrate!

...But when you wake up on Saturday, whenever that may be, the environment you’re in is not the tent you remember falling asleep in. Rather, you’re inside of some kind of house with a white wall and ceiling, wood lined across the bottom of the walls. The floor is wood, too, shiny and glossy as the sun rays shine through the one window in your house. Whatever you had lying out in your tents is still arranged in the same general order you had your things in before. Furthermore, you’re still lying on your camping cots with the same people who fell asleep in the tent with you, but if you decide to get up and investigate, you’ll find two other rooms other than the one you’re in.

Facing the door from the inside, if you look to your left, you’ll find...a bathroom! It’s got a basic toilet, sink, and a bathtub with a showerhead for you to use. There are also enough bath towels for each person hanging on a towel rack. The walls are white but the floor in here is tiled instead of wooden. The room across the bathroom, however, is empty. It has the same wallpaper and flooring as the main room you found yourself in.

It’s a small, comfy place you’re staying in, but the real question is… When did this happen? Only one way to find out.

And sure enough, if you’re awake by nine AM, Tom Nook will rally everyone to Resident Services for his morning announcements.

“Good morning, everyone, and welcome to your first weekend on Isle Sonrisa! As you’ve all probably already noticed by now, we were able to upgrade your tents last night into houses! Don’t worry, there is no fee for this upgrade -- but now you finally have a place where you can decorate your house with all the furniture you were able to get in the mail. For any excess items you may have… Might I suggest a yard sard of some sort, hm?”

He tilts his head a little. He thinks this is a good idea!

“Alternatively, houses all come with storage. There’s a small little storage shed in the back of everyone’s houses that can fit many, many items. If you don’t want to sell your items to me or hand them off to someone else, you can store them inside of there.”

Tom Nook nods his head. “Yes, yes. I’d like to suggest that you all take this weekend to decide how to arrange the items you’ve gotten in the mail...and one more thing about those items: You can put them outside, too. For example, oh, an exercise area might be nice…” He sounds a little wistful when he says it, but promptly shakes his head afterwards.

“Ah-! Before I forget...erm… It seems as though one of our friends has unexpectedly left the island. We don’t know where or how he left, you see...but Heimdall is no longer here. We’re still working on figuring out a way to send you all home, and we’re trying to track him down, too.”

He looks very guilty about that, at least. But the moment passes, and he perks up again, smiling at everyone as best as he can. “Alright, that’s it! You can spend the weekend however you’d like to, but with your new homes being built and all the furniture some of you have received, well… It may be a good idea to work on that, no?”

(OOC: Welcome to your first event log! Any questions can be directed to the FAQ. We will no longer be posting log questions and will be funneling them to the FAQ instead for easier access.

Let us know if you have any questions, as always! NPCing will be available after ~3:30PM EST today.)

[ Laurent was out for a light stroll after the rain has cleared and the scent of coffee pings him, so he follows the scent until it leads him to Leblanc II. ]

Hey, nice place. Got a menu?
jokersonyou: (47)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-05 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, that scent would probably ping Ren halfway across the island.

He gives Laurent a smile.]

Not an extensive one yet. I've managed to figure out the espresso machine, so there's that, as well as a regular cup of coffee. Nothing fancy, but it does its job.

What a nice, young manager.

[ Laurent laughs a little. ]

Alright, one espresso please. How much is a cup?
jokersonyou: (Default)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-05 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Manager, huh. I'm just used to being the volunteer.

[Even if Sojiro threw money his way, Ren wouldn't accept it. Honestly, it was the least he could do for the guy putting him up, even if he was technically getting paid for it.]

I won't be charging now. Maybe not ever, honestly. Kind of feels wrong when there's no real economy here, and when I'm sure people have been desperate for caffeine.

[With a nod, Ren moves to take one of the smaller cups. It's not the right little cup, of course, but it'll do. He places it onto the machine before getting to grinding some coffee beans finely. Though many more people at Leblanc ordered normal coffee, he still knows his way around a machine, and it isn't long before he's got it going.]

Shouldn't take too long. The machine's actually pretty good quality.

Nook said that the bells will come in handy for the future--maybe tomorrow? In any case, you should treat yourself.

[ He'll leave 100 bells as a tip. Please take it, mister godslaying barista. ]

I imagine Leblanc II would look interesting with a bar-like counter with those apple chairs.

[ Laurent goes through the NookPhone and shows Ren the image in case he doesn't know how they look like. They kinda look like they could be replacements for stools. ]
jokersonyou: (27)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-05 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, he'll accept a tip, then. He gives him a smile and a thanks. About to pull the handle on the espresso machine, he glances over at the phone.]

Oh, that'd actually look pretty good with a counter. You're definitely right. I haven't seen any counters yet, but maybe if I lined up a few stalls and sawed off the tops of them... Or even just leave them as is.

[It's an idea to consider once he gathers more materials. Ren's attention goes back to the machine, and before long, he's got just the right amount of espresso poured into the cup. That ready, he turns to hand it over to him.]

Let me know if there's anything you think needs to be adjusted. I'm happy for feedback.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-05 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be glad to supply the chairs when you need them.

[ Let him help you, young one. Laurent takes the cup of espresso and quietly drinks it. He isn't really a coffee critic, but even if he was, he'd find it difficult to critique something he's been wanting to drink after so long. He can't really complain. ]

The roast could be a little darker for stronger flavor, though it's pretty good for others who can't handle it as well.

[ Hm. ]

Though this means you might have to start memorizing everyone's tastes.
jokersonyou: (28)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-06 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[He takes the words into an account, nodding. For now, he's mostly been doing the bare basics.]

True, but it's something I ended up getting into a habit of back home with the regulars. I haven't really messed with the coffee beans much yet when it comes to a proper roast, but once I get everything running well here, I'll see what I can do about that.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-06 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure many people would like a good cup of coffee. Thank you for your contribution to otherworldkind.

[ Since, you know. Not everyone is human. ]

Could I ask for the strongest cup you have?
jokersonyou: (27)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-07 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Least I can do, really. And coming right up! It'll be better if I can get a darker roast, though I can see if I can do that sometime with these beans... I'm not sure if it'll work right to take beans that have already been roasted some and do it again, but I'll definitely experiment.

[For now, more grounds, so he gets to grinding that and boiling the water.]

Back home, Sojiro--the guy who ran the cafe I stayed at--got his coffee beans already roasted, so we didn't do it at the cafe itself. They were all incredible quality beans, though.
conceptualize: (pic#14102730)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-07 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Laurent has time, so he'll gladly wait. ]

Quality beans, huh? Were they some expensive coffee because of it? I heard there was a coffee that costs more than $900 for a simple cup.
jokersonyou: (13)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-07 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
No, we definitely didn't charge super high amounts. It definitely wasn't budget coffee either, but it was still affordable. Sojiro always prided himself on the quality.

[A nod, and he chuckles at that last bit.]

Oh, man... There is definitely an expensive coffee. We actually have the beans, but it's not something people actually really order. I tried it once, and it wasn't bad at all, but...

[There's a pause.]

You probably don't want to know what process those beans go through.
conceptualize: (pic#14101298)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-07 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you can't just say that and not have me ask about it.

[ Ren, tell Laurent your secrets. ]

I'm very curious now.
jokersonyou: (57)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-07 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, he asked for it.]

It's called Kopi luwak. Basically, uh...the coffee cherries are eaten by an animal called an Asian palm civet. It goes through their digestive system, fermenting there, and when it...leaves it, you get the product.

[Poop coffee. It's poop coffee.]

Obviously it's cleaned, but I still really don't get the appeal. It's not worth the ridiculous price tag.
conceptualize: (pic#14102678)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-08 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm, maybe rich people just want the experience or the claim to have tasted something "exotic".

[ He puts heavy quotations around that word, because. Well. He doesn't like using it, but it's a good word to get the message across. ]

Not many are willing to refine it, therefore there are less in stock. Something like that.
jokersonyou: (Default)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-09 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right. Rich people are weird.

[Ren gives a little shrug. It's true, okay.]

I like quality but there's definitely a line.
conceptualize: (pic#14102677)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-09 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Rich people are weird because they can afford to be.

[ Haha.

Ha.
]

Some things are unnecessarily luxurious. There's a special store that sold hot dogs with truffles and gold leaf on it. It was quite expensive.
jokersonyou: (72)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-10 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Eyoooooo.]

I've seen things like that before. I guess if you've got money pouring out of every orifice you might as well give it a shot, but for the rest of us...
conceptualize: (pic#14102709)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, the simpler things are nicer.

[ ... ]

Like cheap mass produced spaghetti during exam hell week.
jokersonyou: (36)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I will not say no to that. Give me some microwaved ramen any day instead of cooking when I have to study.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-10 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
If you go to university one day [ or at least... he thinks Ren is a high school student? ], just remember you need to cook up whatever you can for time management.

[ He looks down at his empty cup. ]

... That isn't just coffee.
