Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Eh..? [what why] ...Even if you offered all of it at once? A lot of these aren't really boy's clothes I think...

[Skirt...tights...

And what-
] ...Oh. I meant the churn itself but... ...can you really make butter with this?

[personal profile] kouhou 2020-07-03 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
... Ah. Y-Yeah, I guess I could have. Haha...

[ NOW HE'S UH, probably looking a bit questionable at this point. ABORT ABORT!! He's so sorry Mira. ]

You know, I just kinda assumed that you could make butter but that's a good point. I guess this means we should build this and test it out.

[Man, when he thinks about it, he sure does get nervous a lot huh...

Focus on the butter churner, he decides. That's easy enough.
] We just need to see what it needs then...do you want the card on your phone? It was your mail...

[ Emporio, you have way more brain cells than he does. ]

Oh! I didn't know you could upload these onto your phone. That would be more helpful. How do you that?

[His gift, and his curse,]

Here- you just have to hold the card under the camera of the phone. Be careful though- once you use it once, it's permanently registered; you can't match the card to more than one phone.

[That's not how it worked Most of the week. But it IS how he was warned it would work pretty soon at least. Something about the initial cards being too vital to limit one per.]

[ Following Emporio's instructions, he places the card under the camera and VIOLA! It seems to do the trick. ]

Ooh, okay! I see. Thanks a ton, Emporio. I did not realize we could do this. It's going to be so much easier to keep up with recipes now.

[ Instead of like, hoarding all the cards. ]

I've been really impressed with your wisdom.
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-05 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely easier when you don't have to worry about losing all the cards... [he laughs, only to blink.] H-huh? You are?

[He...he thought it was common sense!!]
kouhou: (pic#14019532)

[personal profile] kouhou 2020-07-07 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! You've said some really wise and thoughtful stuff. If you asked me, I think you're one of the brightest people on the island.

[ Not gonna hesitate to shower the small sheep with praise. ]

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you anyway?

[ With Emporio being... well, a sheep. He's had trouble figuring that out. ]
Edited (formatting doesn't exist) 2020-07-07 21:20 (UTC)
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-08 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh!

Um...thanks, [He manages, rubbing the back of his head.] ...I'm 11...

[personal profile] kouhou 2020-07-08 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That moment when you are not smarter than a 5th or 6th grader. ]

Seriously?! You seem wise beyond your years. I'm 15 so I kind of assumed you were older than me.
seacub: ('boy i sure hope nothin bad happens')

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-09 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Um...no. But it's alright. A lot of people have been saying I'm smart for my age I guess...

[Which he supposes...makes sense? Maybe? Hm.]
kouhou: (pic#14019532)

[personal profile] kouhou 2020-07-09 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
For sure! I can see that. Your insight into everything that's been going on here has been refreshing to listen to.

[ SORRY EMPORIO he's going to continue to shower you with praise!!! ]

You kind of remind me of my Kouhai from back home. He's 12 and is also really intelligent for his age, I feel like you two would get along if you ever get the chance to meet each other.
seacub: (it's fine i can see fine)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-11 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
[That's so much praise!?!

Uh-
] I guess if mister Nook finds a way for everyone to visit each other after they go home, we could?

...what's a Kouhai though..?
kouhou: (pic#14127194)

[personal profile] kouhou 2020-07-13 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, sorry.

[ It just sort of slipped out without him thinking. Oops. ]

It's the Japanese word for underclassmen. He's two years my junior and a really good kid. If there's ever a chance to visit each other, you two would get along for sure.
seacub: (: ' D)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-14 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I think I see what it means now.

...I hope I get the chance then, [He adds a little quietly. It sounds like it'd be nice.]
