Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Maybe.
But that'd be boring.
Plastic wouldn't get the heft and texture right.
Misrepresentation of the human body.
Useless for learning.
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[...............................................wat]

...I don't think american classrooms could convince enough people to donate their bodies for that....

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ "American classrooms suck."

deletes that ]

Why not?
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't think a lot of people like the idea of their bones being in a school... [He...can't really say if that's the case or not, but hey.]

Also, bones wear away in ways plastic doesn't... [He knows this, having carried around his mom's bone for a Long Time.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ yo, what the fuck was that last bit ]

Really?
I think it'd be cool.
My body would be useful after death.
When it wears away, somebody else's skeleton could replace mine.
seacub: (AnxietyBoy prevails)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ : ] ]

A lot of people don't really think of it like that...

[This is conjecture again, but with the way people would talk at the prison graveyard.... ........yep.]

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oh...
People not wanting their skeletons out on display is a weird thought.
seacub: (AND NOW A PIPE TOO??)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
[H m.]

I get the feeling more people would say the opposite...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Huh.
Are you good with people?
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ummmmmm....I guess?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Better than me, then.
But okay. I'll trust your judgement.
Still think real skeletons are cool, though.
What do you want to do with yours?
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's that people don't think they're cool. It's more...personal?

You're trusting someone to look after it.

I think it's a bit early for me to think about that though...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's never too early to think about your skeleton.
I'll take good care of this one. I like it, after all.
I'd take good care of yours too.
seacub: (D :)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
If someone is going to get my skeleton, it should really be someone I know I think!!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Hi, my name is Minato.
seacub: (PLEASE LISTEN TO ME OH GOSH)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't actually count enough..!

But my name is Emporio...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Hi.
What counts, then?
What level of knowing justifies skeletons?
seacub: (W H O M S T ?)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
More than the people I knew from home, because I would still place them first.

And you can't beat that.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I can't imagine I could.
Which of the people you knew would you give your skeleton to?
seacub: (it's fine i can see fine)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to keep that to myself I think...

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Fair.
I guess people don't like talking about this stuff.
It's too bad...
You're welcome to come by and see my skeleton any time, though.
seacub: (oh no why this Again)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
The one that's probably plastic..?
seacub: (: O)

[personal profile] seacub 2020-07-03 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Just the plastic one is fine!!!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-03 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
