Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Oh! Huh, that's...actually pretty cool. So you used to be a cat of some sort? How did it feel, turning into a human? Or, part human, at least.

[He's definitely curious.]
sugooooooooi: Looking behind herself with concern. (hurry up)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-02 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know! It was a really long time ago, and I can't remember the time when I was an animal. But now I still live in the park playing all day, so I guess life didn't really change!

[Awww...cute...]

Wait, how old are you, that you can't remember? You look pretty young.
sugooooooooi: Offering help with a smile. (oh how about this)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-03 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure! I never needed to count, so I didn't. How old are you?
jokersonyou: (57)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-03 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[She can't be older than him or anything...can she?]

Seventeen.
sugooooooooi: Excited and about to ruin something. (joy ride)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-03 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay! Is that a lot? I wonder how old everyone else is here.
jokersonyou: (77)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-03 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm not a child, but I'm not an adult yet, either. Close, but not yet.

[Adults are dumb, anyway.]

Most people look pretty young here that I've seen so far... Teenagers and young adults.
sugooooooooi: Proudly stating something. (guess what i learned)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-04 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder why. Maybe they wanted people mostly the same age so we could all get along?
jokersonyou: (70)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-04 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be. I'm not really sure what the criteria was, since we really seem to be a heck of a grab bag.

[Different people, different worlds...]
sugooooooooi: Smiling at something ahead. (my favourite thing)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-04 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you think Tom Nook-san picked us, or someone else?
jokersonyou: (26)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-04 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure, actually. It seemed that he was under the impression that the paperwork listed us all. I'm not sure what paperwork he was talking about, or why all of our names were on it... He doesn't seem to actually have the power to take us from our worlds, either. I think someone else is behind this.
sugooooooooi: Laying down, pondering something. (just a thought)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-04 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I didn't really think about how we got here. Going to a whole other world must be hard. Maybe we can ask Scintilla-san.
jokersonyou: (34)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Does she have experience with that?

[Huh.]
sugooooooooi: Boarding the bus with an adventurous smile. (ready to embark)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-05 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
She said she's been to loads of other worlds! It sounds exciting, doesn't it?
jokersonyou: (26)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-05 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It definitely does. Maybe I will ask her about it, then. At the very least, I guess some perspective is still a help.
