Week 1

WEEK 1 LOG
Weather: Clear skies all week!

    Arrival

At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.

Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.

“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”

Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.

“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”

If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”

And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”

He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.

    Possible Objectives

    1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
    2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
    3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!

As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).

    OOC Questions
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!

And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

The third one's the lie!

[Zeke pronounces this with utmost certainty.]

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-06-30 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct~!

You get a point!
thezekeinator: (smirky smirk)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-06-30 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! That was too easy!
livefreely: (pic#13400193)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-06-30 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee.

Do you think you can do one that's harder, then?

[She is absolutely challenging him.]
thezekeinator: (objection!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-06-30 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything would be easier than guessing no boy would be dumb enough to leave you.

[Zeke clears his throat.]

I'm a Blade Eater.
I worked as an envoy for the Indoline Praetorium.
I've killed three people in my life.

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-06-30 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The guy, maybe... but I could leave them.

Lessee... hmm. I don't know what the first two are, so I'm going to guess the third one?

[If that's true, she's going to judge.]
thezekeinator: (thinky thoughts)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-06-30 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, that's not fair at all! [Yep, she nailed the lie. Damn it, that was too easy!]
livefreely: (pic#8087808)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-01 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's totally fair~!
thezekeinator: (objection!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-01 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The other two are much, much more unlikely!
livefreely: (pic#13400178)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Are they?

I didn't know.
thezekeinator: (what?!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-01 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yours was much more obviously untrue! Mine was far more difficult even if you got it right through unfair means.
livefreely: (pic#13400098)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-02 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
I could have made it harder, but I was being nice with an example!

[Was she, though.]
thezekeinator: (objection!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-02 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah? Let's hear a harder one, then!
livefreely: (pic#13400151)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-02 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay!

Let's see. . .

I'm planning on majoring in education in college.
I'm really bad at tongue twisters.
I'm terrible at slapping people.

How about that?!
thezekeinator: (objection!)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-02 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect you're not terrible at slapping people!

[...No girl he knows is terrible at slapping people. Even the innocent-looking ones. ESPECIALLY the innocent-looking ones.]
livefreely: (pic#13400211)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Bzzt! I am super terrible at it.
thezekeinator: (i protest)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-03 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Really. Here I'd have thought you'd need to practice often, for getting crude comments directed your way. [Boys can be classless, after all.]
livefreely: (pic#13400095)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-03 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I've never had comments like that thrown my way.

[Because she just acted the way people wanted from her for the longest time.]

People tell me my slaps aren't even really slaps.
thezekeinator: (serious)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-04 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, we can't have that</i. How about I teach you to put your back into it properly?
livefreely: (pic#13400098)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-04 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I did before, but then they were like - no, no, that's not a slap, that's an open palmed fist strike!

[That's her problem.....]
thezekeinator: (So that's that)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-04 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's all in whether you're thrusting or twisting!
livefreely: (pic#13400096)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-05 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ohh...

Is that how it is?
thezekeinator: (serious)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-05 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Right! It's a matter of yield and surface area. Striking sidelong with the palm means your wrist flexes, no matter how tight you hold it, so some of force goes into that instead. And your whole hand is large so it spreads the force out. Whereas if you thrust straight-on with the heel of your hand, there's no flex all through your arm, so whoever you hit gets the full strength of just that small portion.
livefreely: (pic#13400095)

[personal profile] livefreely 2020-07-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I see, I see...

[She hums to herself, nodding in understanding.] Maybe I should start practicing more.
thezekeinator: (smirky smirk)

[personal profile] thezekeinator 2020-07-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm going to try to avoid comments crude enough to give you cause, so I'm planning on being no use to you for that!
