Week 1
Weather: Clear skies all week!
- Arrival
At 9AM Monday morning, Tom Nook will take his place at the microphone once more. He has several bins in front of him that are filled with tools. Shovels, fishing rods, bug nets, watering cans, and axes. They look...well. Functional, but flimsy. Next to the tool bins are foldable carts that you can wheel around, presumably for the tools, and some Nook Inc. knapsacks. And now that the sun is out, you can see all of the red, yellow, and white cosmos growing about the island alongside all of the weeds.
Now. Whether you’re around or not, he’s going to start his announcements when a sizable group is present.
“Good morning, everyone! Now, I know yesterday was quite a rough start for all of us, but while we’re here, let’s make the most of our stay, hm? We have a few things to go over today.” He gives everyone his best smile (though he isn’t expecting much in return) and continues: “I know a lot of you must be hungry; overnight, we had another plane fly over seasoning, milk, eggs, and vegetables for us! Soon, we’ll have more ingredients; for now, if you need anything, the food we have on-hand can be found inside of the fridge in my tent.”
Well, that’s one thing taken care of, at least. It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
“Next, the tools! These are what you have to start with, and, well, they aren’t exactly the most durable...but they will last for a little while. I estimate 20 uses each -- but when they break, never fear, for we have DIY Recipe cards for you to use in order to craft these tools again! I’ve included the DIY cards for your tools inside of your knapsacks; they give you the ingredients necessary to craft different things. You’re free to use the workbench in my tent to craft your new tools after they break. My best advice is to lay the materials out in the general formation of what you’re crafting and let the workbench do the rest.”
If you reach inside of your knapsack, you’ll find the cards in there...along with a cellular device of some sort. “Ah, yes,” Tom Nook says, “those are your Nook Phones. So far, you’re only able to send mass texts to everyone and receive text and call alerts from myself. Feel free to play around with those as much as you’d like, they’re solar-powered; just try not to break them, yes?”
And then, finally… “Lastly, I would like to talk about currency. I’ll provide you our currency -- bells -- and I will buy anything from you! Weeds, fish, bugs...anything! I have an ATM set up in my tent for you to easily deposit and withdraw your bells if you wish, yes, yes. If you’re wondering what you’ll be using those for...we’ll be having some special features for you starting next week! … If we can’t send you back home by then, that is.”
He looks nervous at that last part, but doesn’t mention anything beyond that regarding your situation. Tom Nook smiles at you and closes out the announcements; you now have several things you can do this week.
Possible Objectives
1. Gather natural resources to sell to Tom Nook and make some money! Bugs and fish list can be found here.
2. Use those resources to craft a variety of different things -- DIY Recipes will speed things up and make them more refined, but you're free to do your own variant of crafting, too!
3. Do some other exploration; the island section of the setting provides you with possible ways to get more resources (bottles, x-marks, balloons, etc.). Shaking trees and hitting rocks are also ways to get special items as well! If you are going to do these methods of exploration, please write “MODS” in your subject header and ping us on Plurk or Discord so we can reward you appropriately! All we ask is that you try not to go too overboard with this method of exploration (ten times a week per person, as an exaggerated example); use your best judgment!
As far as resource gathering + currency goes, we won't be keeping track of those so feel free to handwave as much as you'd like; as long as it's within reason (i.e. a character getting 1 million bells by the end of this week is...a little extreme).
Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday
(OOC: Welcome to your Week 1 Log! We apologize for the info dump; Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week, so we wanted to get the information to you folks as soon as possible. That being said, our OOC Questions top level is available for you to use!
And last but not least, we have a Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use. We aren't sure how these will shake out, but we thought we should give them a try anyway.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

rocks
[ Somehow, in his mind, an axe made more sense for splitting rocks- find a weak point and drive the blade into it, hoping the rock will break. Instead, he's kept having to go back and repair his poor axe, and by the end of the week, it mostly gets hauled around unused, slung by his side where the comfortable weight of his sword usually hangs. ]
no subject
[He gives Minato a sympathetic look, though.]
Have you gotten anything good from these?
no subject
Easier to do other things, so I left the rocks alone.
[ He's not sure why Ton Nook wants them gone anyways; they're perfect for sitting on, which is what he does now, hopping up onto one of the larger stones so sit and- almost fall backwards with the weight of his wings- but catches himself so he can sit and watch Ren pummel stone. ]
Been watching people, though. Sometimes there's clay inside. Sometimes there's metal. No food, though, so I don't get the point.
no subject
[He's not a picky eater, but there are lines. Ren hums, thwacking the rock again. A piece of stone breaks off.]
The materials should be useful, if those DIY recipes are anything to go by.
no subject
[ but otherwise, food in rocks is basically petrified bugs and stuff, nothing very appetizing.
Not having anything to help, Minato leaves his perch for a moment to hop off, pick up the small piece of stone, and goes back to sitting on top of the rock while watching Ren continue chipping at it. ]
Do you have anything planned yet?
no subject
[Hmmmm. Ren goes back to hitting the rock. Another piece of it breaks off, and he leans down to pick it up, inspecting it.]
Metal...? Huh. And nah, I have no idea what I'd be making yet. I figured it'd be a good idea to stock up in advance for when I find something, though.
no subject
[ There's merit in that, but Minato's always worked better with a goal in mind or he'd be overflowing with junk, tossing the rock up and down in his hands and feeling the heft of it. He is still on the lookout for rabbits. ]
That metal looks useful. Can I see it for a sec?
no subject
[A nod, and Ren hands it over to Minato.]
I have no idea what kind of metal it is, but it's probably something I can use.
no subject
Awesome. Thanks.
no subject
...Note to self, be careful what you give Minato.]
You're...welcome?
no subject
The "you're welcome" makes it okay, sort of, probably. ]
I'll buy that metal off you. Match whatever you get from Tom Nook.
no subject
Well, alright. I could part with one piece.
no subject
Is 500 Bells okay? Gotta withdraw it though, so I'll need a sec.
no subject
[It's not like there are any shops here, really.]
no subject
[ Tom Nook's promise of something coming in the following week is intriguing, but at this point in time, bells are essentially worthless enough to give away as credit, so Minato shrugs, looking over towards where the ATM is to estimate how long it'd take for him to jog there and back. Half an hour, tops. Would be easier if he just dragged Ren along with him instead of carrying the bells back himself, but he doesn't want to take Ren away from his mining either. ]
I don't like being in anybody's debt. Especially not to something important like this.
[ pat pat over his pocket with the metal piece. ]
no subject
[Aaaand back to the rock. By the time the thing somehow just shatters, he gets two more iron nuggets, a few clumps of clay, and...money? What is money doing inside of a rock? Well, he's not going to complain, and pockets it along with the rest.]
no subject
For now, though, all he needs is the metal, which he fiddles with inside his pocket until the rock's been fully shattered and no other surprises can be found. Taking that to be the end of it, Minato turns and starts off for Nook's tent to withdraw bells and immediately transfer them to Ren's account. ]
500... there. Pleasure doing business.
no subject
[No idea if Minato has any particular plans for the metal considering how eager he was to pay for it, but eh.]
no subject
[ He absolutely does have plans. He doesn't say it, though. Ren can rest easy knowing his chunk of metal contributed greatly to one of Minatu's future shenanigans (: ]
