The Finale is Near

Days have passed since you first wound up with those strange mechanical bits in the mail. While all of you have found your respective partners, there’s still the question of “What do we do now?” in regards to the combined pieces. There are a few potential courses of action with the knowledge you have of how magic works here on the island, but the answer may or may not be what you’d expect.

Regardless, things seem to be coming close to wrapping up. For those of you who want it...maybe it’s finally time to return home. For those of you who want to stay, hopefully there's a way to do so. The only way to find the answers to these two things, however, is to start figuring things out.

[ She looks down at it for a second before reaching down to pick it up before Laurent's question distracts her. ]

I told Ren about everything that happened in my world and he promised to help me. [ She smiles a little. ] He ended up finding out that he could take me back to his world. I never expected to be able to leave, honestly.

[ But it's nice. She's actually excited for what's ahead. ]

I hope you live a good life there, Kaede. Ren told me that he'll always take care of you [ like a husband ] so I think you'll be in good hands.

[ It's like a second chance for Kaede, and he's honestly relieved for her. ]

[ That takes her by complete surprise and she just stares at him for a moment. ]

Eh? D-Did he really say that?

[ Her cheeks turn a little pink. Although she knows he's going to be making a lot of arrangements and doing all kinds of things for her when they get back, hearing that he'll always take care of her is surprising. ]

Yeah, I'm surprised he didn't say it to you as if he was declaring something.

[ "Declaring something". Yeah. He wonders what that "something" would be? Hmmmmmmm. ]

[ Her face feels hot now. ]

H-He didn't say it like that, not really.

[ Then again, she's totally oblivious. ]

He did say he would work on getting everything figured out for me so that I wouldn't have to worry... [ She pauses. ] I won't let him do everything though. I'll need to repay him somehow.

[ Sorry, Kaede... He means well! It's just that it's the last time they'll see each other and if anything, Kaede also needs a taste of Laurent's teasing. That's what he decided anyway. ]

Don't make it feel like you have a debt that you can never repay no matter what you do, because sometimes, that would strain a friendship.

[ Or... any good relationship you want to keep, really. But Laurent thinks Kaede understands. ]

Just being there for someone and making their day is sometimes more than enough. Besides, he's bringing you over so that you can have a better life, right? Then go, and have a better life than before. Isn't that the best way?

[ She considers his words for a moment. Living her life to the fullest would be the best way to repay him, since that's what Ren wants.

She smiles. ]

You're right. I won't let myself feel like I'm in debt to him.

[ Especially because she doesn't want to cause any strain regardless of what happens between them. ]

He worked to find a way for me to have a better life, so I need to make sure I do! [ She pauses. ] It feels nice knowing I have so much to look forward to.
