The Finale is Near

Days have passed since you first wound up with those strange mechanical bits in the mail. While all of you have found your respective partners, there’s still the question of “What do we do now?” in regards to the combined pieces. There are a few potential courses of action with the knowledge you have of how magic works here on the island, but the answer may or may not be what you’d expect.

Regardless, things seem to be coming close to wrapping up. For those of you who want it...maybe it’s finally time to return home. For those of you who want to stay, hopefully there's a way to do so. The only way to find the answers to these two things, however, is to start figuring things out.

[ After two months, Kaede had started to wonder when they would all be able to go home. Although she hoped it would be soon for everyone's sake, this still feels sudden.

It takes her some time to get some of the things she really wants to keep, putting the things that can fit in her backpack. She puts a few bigger things in her pockets, like the piano Minato gave her.

Eventually, Kaede is back near the airport. It feels a little strange, knowing she's going somewhere now. For most of her time here, she had planned to stay and wave everyone off as they left. But now... she's going back to Ren's world, and she'll be one of the ones waving goodbye to those that stay. It feels strange to be leaving after being set on staying for so long, but it's nice too. For once she has some hope for the future.

Still, Kaede can't help but feel sad to say goodbye to everyone here. She's a little misty-eyed as she smiles at everyone. ]

Bye, Kaede-chan! [Serval hugs her tightly.] I hope Ren-san's world is nice.

[ Kaede hugs her back. ]

Thanks! I think it'll be great. [ She's nervous, but excited. ]

I'll miss you.

I'm gonna visit this place once someone figures out how, so maybe I can see you guys where you are, too!

[ A few tears manage to escape. ]

That would be great! We should have a reunion here when we can.

Yeah! Wait, what's a reunion? It sounds fun.

We all decide on a date to come back and throw a big party!

That does sound fun! Can I bring Kaban-chan, too? And maybe some other friends!

Of course! I'd love to meet all of your friends! I bet they're great.

All packed up?

[There's definitely a comfort in knowing that at least he isn't going back alone. That this place won't be able to be chalked up to some strange dream. Kaede is coming back with him, and he couldn't be more grateful.]

[ She smiles at him, adjusting her backpack on her shoulder. ]

I am! Did you get everything you need?

Yup. I packed up a handful of things that might be useful to you back home, too. We'll have to make a heck of a shopping trip regardless, but every bit helps.

[ She looks at him in surprise. ]

Eh? Really? You didn't have to do that.

[ But she smiles even as she said that. ]

You're right about that shopping trip, though. I'm looking forward to it, to be honest.

So am I. It's a shame my friend Ann won't be around to take you clothes shopping. She's a model, so she definitely knows her stuff. But I'm sure we can figure that out ourselves. I live in a small town, but there's plenty of shops for us to get you clothes and whatever else you need.

[He's definitely been thinking this through.]

I'm also going to get in contact with some of my connections back in Tokyo for some of the more technical stuff, since you're not exactly showing up with an ID or passport. But seriously, don't worry at all about that. I've got friends in a surprising amount and types of places, so that shouldn't be hard to get settled, either.

[Sure, some of his ideas might not exactly be...legal, but whatever!]

[ Wow, it really is too bad that Ann won't be there if she's a model. Kaede really wants to meet her now!!

It does have her wondering all the different kinds of people he knows, though. If he can get an ID and everything set up from her, he really does know people everywhere... She's kind of excited to meet all of them, if she can. ]

I know I already said thank you but... seriously, thank you. I'm really glad to have you there to help me get settled.

[It's another reason to work on going back to Tokyo next year, then. He'd love to introduce Kaede to all of his friends, and he knows they'll absolutely adore her.]

You don't have to thank me. I want to do it. Besides, it'll be good to have company. To be honest, I was kind of lonely back in my hometown. I didn't have much in the way of meaningful friendships, and after getting expelled... Well. I don't really see much waiting for me there. Even though my name is technically cleared, I'm still probably going to be seen as some kind of miscreant and delinquent. But if all goes well, once I finish this last year of high school, we can try to move back to Tokyo. I don't know how you are with big cities, but it's an exciting place.

[A nod, and he laughs softly.]

I'll have to definitely figure out a new living situation there, though. Leblanc's attic is a little too small for two.

[ She smiles at him, her eyes sparkling with determination. ]

I'll tell everyone how great you are! Even if they don't listen to me, I'll still tell them what I think.

[ Because he deserves to have good things about him spread around!! ]

We could always find an apartment! [ Maybe she shouldn't assume they'll live together in Tokyo but... ] I can probably make some money playing the piano.

[There's a slight tinge of pink on his cheeks at that. Honestly, even considering the situation, he doesn't think he quite deserves that earnest kindness directed his way. And to have someone sticking up for him like that back home...]

Thank you, Kaede. I mean it. And that sounds like a good idea. Maybe I can ask the guy who runs the jazz club in Kichijoji if you could play there, or if he knows anywhere you could.

That would be great! You could even come visit!

[ The best of both worlds! ]

I think no matter what, we'll figure everything out. Especially if we work together. [ She smiles softly. ] I feel like I have a lot to look forward to.

[ It's not a feeling she thought she would have again. ]

Definitely! I'd come to see you every time you played, or as much as I could, anyway.

[He nods and smiles. This...has definitely been the best eight week kidnapping that he could ask for. Before going here, he was going home with a heavy heart. Morgana was staying with him, at least, but it still hurt to leave everyone else behind. Even if he knew he had the strength to move on. His hometown held nothing for him.

But now? He had things to look forward to. He had another person at his side to be with, to laugh with, to spend time with. And when he came back to Tokyo, he'd have someone new to introduce to everyone.]

Same here. Even if I'm not a Phantom Thief anymore, I bet that together, we'll take Japan by storm somehow.

I'll make sure I play some of your favorite songs!

[ She's sure he'll have favorites by that point at least! She plans on playing as much as she can, even in a new world. ]

I think we will too! We'll find a way. [ She smiles, and her cheeks turn a little pink. ] I never thought I'd get to think about the future again. I mean, I was glad to stay behind here because it's nice but... I feel like the possibilities are endless now.
