Mystery Mail

With the event coming to a close, you may be thinking, “What now?” It seemed like Tom Nook really wanted you all to host KK Slider for the sake of going home, but you’re still here. You’re still on Isle Sonrisa. Although...the event did bring you Gulliver, and that in turn brought you those mysterious parts and messages you got in the mail this morning. Could this be a step closer to getting back home? Maybe so, but there’s only one way to find out.

Before you begin, though, Tom Nook has a few words to say for his announcements.

“Everyone, thank you so much for your hard work these past few weeks. We were able to bring KK Slider over and in turn, we’ve been receiving dozens of applications for new residents! Er, granted, I can only take so many of them until we get all of you home -- well, those of you who expressed wanting to go home, anyhow -- so I’ll be busy this upcoming week. Wilbur, Orville and I have been trying to reach out to people to try to help you find your way home, and our friend Gulliver mentioned he sent parts over to you all, yes? Do let me know how that goes! Ah, and there’s one other thing I need to take care of myself, so if you need me, I’ll be in my tent for the rest of the week.”

He doesn’t specify what that specific thing is, though. Ah, well. That seems to be the end of his announcements: Short and to the point. He seems a little stressed and busy what with the application intake, so perhaps your time is better spent figuring out the mystery behind what you received in the mail.

[That’s fair, if a little concerning.]

A walk sounds nice - and I’m not in any rush unless you are.

[She’s got nothing but free time today! And most days, but especially today.]

[ He holds Adelaide's hand and leads her to the beach, which isn't too far off. The weather is nice, the gentle winds by the shore are great--overall, it's a great environment. ]

Let's take our shoes off.

[ Feel the waves and stuff. ]

[It’s a damn near perfect day, and the beach looks as serene as always. Adelaide feels... At peace.

She squeezes his hand, before pulling back to slip her shoes off. She bounces on her feet, lifting the skirt of her dress as she steps into the wave to keep it dry.

This is nice.

Yeah.

[ Laurent follows after taking his own shoes off. The waves feel nice and cool and the feeling of the sand rushing out underneath his feet feels great. For all he's heard about first date jitters, he doesn't feel nervous at all. In fact, he feels relieved to be here with Adelaide, with her hand in his, and looking out the horizon. ]

You know... last week, I was playing something like a medley of what I thought connected to each islander through a song on the piano, since Dokja asked. When he asked about you, I had a whole bunch of songs in my head, but instead of playing it right there and then, I decided that I'd rather play it when you're around.

[A piano medley, huh... She looks out over the waves, considering this. She’s curious, so, so curious what those songs are, and she’s glances over at Laurent.]

Are you gonna play it for me later?

[ He smiles and looks over at her. ]

Of course. We can do that... maybe after dinner.

[ He takes slow steps, feeling the waves come in and out, a refreshing feeling that soothes his mind the best it can. ]

Are you curious? What if it's a song you don't like?

After dinner sounds nice.

[She swings their hands together, tilting her head.]

I don’t know, even if I don’t like the song... The fact it reminds you of me has to mean it’s not that bad, right? I could learn to love it.

Don't force yourself.

[ He smiles and swings their hands too so that Adelaide isn't pulling his hand up every single time. ]

I'll do my best to make you like it anyway--

[ A hermit crab skitters away once they get too close to it on the shore. He thought it was just a regular shell... ]

I won't, I won't.

[She waves her other hand, watching as the crab skitters away.]

I just have faith in you.

[ Laurent was about to remark that's more faith than he'll ever have in himself, but he bites that back. He wants this to be enjoyable, not a pityfest. That's why Laurent squeezes her hand a little in response and smiles at her. ]

Just hearing that makes me feel a little happier.

[It's okay, Adelaide has enough faith in him for the both of them, if not for the entire island combined.]

I'm glad.

[A beat.]

That's super sappy.

My feelings can get pretty sappy, as I'm sure you're aware. You'll just have to deal with my sappy, honey-like words while you're with me.

[ No shame in it whatsoever. ]

Sappy and sweet...

[Hmm.]

I think I could get used to that. It sounds nice, actually.

Yeah.

[ People like hearing nice words, and Laurent wouldn't fault them for that. He would agree, but it's not something he would be craving. ]
