Mystery Mail

With the event coming to a close, you may be thinking, “What now?” It seemed like Tom Nook really wanted you all to host KK Slider for the sake of going home, but you’re still here. You’re still on Isle Sonrisa. Although...the event did bring you Gulliver, and that in turn brought you those mysterious parts and messages you got in the mail this morning. Could this be a step closer to getting back home? Maybe so, but there’s only one way to find out.

Before you begin, though, Tom Nook has a few words to say for his announcements.

“Everyone, thank you so much for your hard work these past few weeks. We were able to bring KK Slider over and in turn, we’ve been receiving dozens of applications for new residents! Er, granted, I can only take so many of them until we get all of you home -- well, those of you who expressed wanting to go home, anyhow -- so I’ll be busy this upcoming week. Wilbur, Orville and I have been trying to reach out to people to try to help you find your way home, and our friend Gulliver mentioned he sent parts over to you all, yes? Do let me know how that goes! Ah, and there’s one other thing I need to take care of myself, so if you need me, I’ll be in my tent for the rest of the week.”

He doesn’t specify what that specific thing is, though. Ah, well. That seems to be the end of his announcements: Short and to the point. He seems a little stressed and busy what with the application intake, so perhaps your time is better spent figuring out the mystery behind what you received in the mail.

It's a figure of speech.
To "pounce on" something means to actively seek something out and nab the opportunity before it passes.

[Serval is found easily enough, perched on top of a human-sized cat tree in front of house 9 and batting at the pom-poms dangling from the top level. She waves at Minato and jumps down, landing on her feet.]

Hi! Do you wanna try putting the pieces together? Here's mine!

[She pulls out her orange cat-tail-shaped machine part.]

[ It's a good thing she calls out to Minato, because he doesn't have his eyes up that high, despite knowing how Serval likes to hang out on the trees. ]

Huh... It looks like yours goes on the end of something? Looks like a tail.

[ He takes his piece out, running his fingers over the strings before holding it up to his chest. ]

Maybe these are supposed to be ribs or something.

[ Maybe they are constructing a monster. He'd need to see other people's pieces to be able to tell. ]

[Serval smiles and holds her machine part out.] Then let's put it together! I wonder if it's a toy.

[compendiem]

[ What's this "then"?? Ribs don't connect to the tail bone— they're missing a spine. But maybe this is just a furry alien spine, so Minato shrugs and figures he might as well, turning the piece around so that the tail lies against the strings to see if there's any grooves to fit them together. ]

[ Something sort of strange happens when Minato moves the tail piece along the harp. Well, a few things. The first is that, as the tail drags along the strings of the harp, it makes a sound. Harp music--beautiful and brief, no particular melody. The second is that the pieces shift--or, rather, the tail piece shifts. It curls around the inner perimeter of the harp to fit snugly against the frame of the harp.

The last is that there's a warm, comforting glow, golden and soft in color, before the pieces form what seems to be a part of something--it looks like the corner piece of something; the shape is essentially the letter "v," and the inner gap looks like some sort of point. The piece itself is also made of... iron? ]

[Serval's eyes light up. She paws at the machine a few times and giggles.]

Amazing! it works! I wonder what it does? Do you think it's an instrument for the band?

[compendiem]

[ Minato, on the other hand, looks somewhat shaken despite the warmth and comfort that emits from the metal. Like he's feeling something familiar when he shouldn't be, and he shakes it off by holding up the metal piece so it catches the sunlight and they can get a better look at it at a different angle. ]

I... guess we could use it like that? Maybe KK Slider was impressed by our band and sent something? [ Return addresses, guys!! please!!! ]

Do you want to hold onto it?

[sugooooooooi]

Okay! I'll take good care of it. ...Are you okay, Minato-san? I hope you're not sick.

[compendiem]

[ He hums thoughtfully to himself for a moment, but then smiles a little at Serval, hoping to assuage her worry. ]

Just a little homesick, that's all. When you played the harp and it glowed like that, it felt like home.

[sugooooooooi]

[She smiles at that.] I miss home too, Minato-san. I hope we all get to go wherever we want soon.

[ We neglected to mention the size--apologies for that! The length of each "arm" of the V is one foot--so think two one-foot pieces melded together to make a V shape. ]
