Mystery Mail

With the event coming to a close, you may be thinking, “What now?” It seemed like Tom Nook really wanted you all to host KK Slider for the sake of going home, but you’re still here. You’re still on Isle Sonrisa. Although...the event did bring you Gulliver, and that in turn brought you those mysterious parts and messages you got in the mail this morning. Could this be a step closer to getting back home? Maybe so, but there’s only one way to find out.

Before you begin, though, Tom Nook has a few words to say for his announcements.

“Everyone, thank you so much for your hard work these past few weeks. We were able to bring KK Slider over and in turn, we’ve been receiving dozens of applications for new residents! Er, granted, I can only take so many of them until we get all of you home -- well, those of you who expressed wanting to go home, anyhow -- so I’ll be busy this upcoming week. Wilbur, Orville and I have been trying to reach out to people to try to help you find your way home, and our friend Gulliver mentioned he sent parts over to you all, yes? Do let me know how that goes! Ah, and there’s one other thing I need to take care of myself, so if you need me, I’ll be in my tent for the rest of the week.”

He doesn’t specify what that specific thing is, though. Ah, well. That seems to be the end of his announcements: Short and to the point. He seems a little stressed and busy what with the application intake, so perhaps your time is better spent figuring out the mystery behind what you received in the mail.

[ Sorry, Toushiro... Laurent's standards are high when it comes to people saying rough things. ]

That's because you haven't given me a reason to get to that point.

[ hitsu-softie.... ]

I can't think of anyone else around here associated with the cold, however, so we may as well give it a shot. Here's what I received:

"Seek out the one who tries to play their cards right, especially when it comes to other people."

[conceptualize]

Yeah, that's me. I'm a casino dealer.

[ Yeah, let's focus on that part instead of what it actually says about himself metaphorically. ]

Let's meet up. I have this piece of metal(?). Maybe it'll resonate with whatever you got.

[toushiro]

As do I. I'll go to you. Give me your location.

[conceptualize]

Near the Resident Services tent. I hope you're not too far.

[toushiro]

No. I'll be there shortly.

[ less than two minutes later, he arrives at resident services. he's holding a spiky piece in his paws; he seems to be holding it delicately so as to not drop it -- or maybe it's so he doesn't hurt himself with how sharp it is -- and it's a light peach color. ]

Alright, let's see what you have.

[conceptualize]

[ Since Laurent saw how Toushiro originally looked like, seeing him like this is kinda... weird now. But. Whatever. It's fine! Laurent gets out his own, which is something that resembles a diamond with a soft red hue.

He waits to see if something will happen when they're close together, but also trying to see if he could stick the diamond somewhere in that spiky piece... ]

[toushiro]

[ listen, he hates being a boofer too!!! but hitsugaya holds out his piece and tries to slide the diamond in one of the wedges between the spikes. seems like it might fit in one of those, maybe...? ]

[ Truthfully, the shapes shouldn't connect as perfectly as they do. However, when Hitsugaya slots the diamond into one of the wedges, it's like a key that's found its lock. It fits seamlessly. What's more, when the pieces find their home together, the finished product--it looks like the wing to a plane--does something strange.

It glows, with a soft, warm, golden light that feels gentle and comforting. ]

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent watches it all unfold and... huh. It looks like a plane's wing. He's become pretty familiar with it from how much he's approached the seaplane with Minato before. ]

... A way back home, huh?

[toushiro]

[ he's silent for a moment as he looks down at the plane wing. laurent's comment gets him to look up, and he gently starts to lower the plane wing onto the ground. this thing is a little heavy. ]

Are you having second thoughts?

[conceptualize]

[ Ah, right. Let Laurent help him with lowering the plane wing onto the ground. He looks rather thoughtful when Toushiro asks him the question. That's right--when he first got here, all he wanted to do was stay, but now he's been persuaded otherwise.

...

He smiles. ]

I have something to do there now. There's someone who is well-versed in traveling across worlds, so maybe I can get her help to come back once I'm done.

[toushiro]

Not unreasonable. I'm sure some would use the opportunity to stay here if they could, but responsibilities back at home require too much of them to do otherwise.

[ though the mention of his friend who can travel across worlds does pique his interest. just a little. his ears are a little straighter to indicate that interest, though he's unaware; if he knew, it'd be to his chagrin. ]

Maybe she's the key for those who want to come back again someday.

[conceptualize]

[ As someone who's been keenly taking notice of people's animal features to read their emotions, Laurent sees it right away, but he won't point it out. ]

I'm sure if she wanted to, she could come here right now. From what I remember last before coming here, she's been in a predicament, so that'll have to be solved first.

[ Hm. Laurent looks down at the plane wing, gets out a star fragment and lightly taps on the wing with it to see if that does anything. ]

[ When Laurent taps on the wing with the fragment, there's a little bit of something static-like that twists around the wing for a second. The static is also surrounded with little fragments of something akin to stardust. Then, in the blink of an eye, it's gone. It'll do that again if Laurent tries to tap once more, but it doesn't seem like doing that will do much else. As a note: The static will not shock him, but he will feel that same comforting energy that he and Hitsugaya felt when they combined their mechanical parts together.

Well, a small reaction is better than nothing at all...! ]

[toushiro]

Huh. Would she know that you were here--

[ he pauses when laurent taps the star fragment against the wing. toushiro sees the static and his eyes widen a little. hm... interesting. ]

Again with the stars...

[conceptualize]

She probably would, if she wasn't so busy and actually looking for me.

[ Laurent gets out several more fragments and taps them on the wing to see if there's an even bigger reaction. ]

[ Sadly, the reaction is still the same. While the wing and the star fragment still seem to be connected somehow, it seems like that tapping the fragment on the wing alone isn't enough to make something happen. ]

[conceptualize]

[ Hm. Laurent puts away the star fragments back into his pocket. ]

Looks like we need the entire magical plane.

[ Assuming... that it's a plane. ]

[toushiro]

Probably.

[ he's willing to bet it's a plane, too, apparently. ]

I hope they're not making us build an entire plane from scratch.

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent laughs a little. He's not excited about that prospect, but. ]

If it's as magical as it seems, we'll probably just need to bring the parts together. I assume the others have the remaining parts of the plane. Then, we get out the star fragments... I wonder if they'll act as fuel. Funny, if it runs on wishes and dreams.

[ He tries putting the plane wing into his pocket. There's no way they'll be able to lug this thing around... ]

[toushiro]

I think it's ridiculous, personally.

[ something that runs on the power of wishes and dreams... it all sounds so cliche, like it should be something straight out of a storybook. but given how things have been going here so far, he doesn't doubt that it could be true.

the plane wing fits into laurent's pocket, somehow. yet another part of this world that hitsugaya will never understand. the fucking pockets, man. ]

Hopefully you're right. I doubt any of us know how to assemble a plane.

You never know if it'll be a hidden skill on anyone.

[ Laurent laughs a little.

He's no longer surprised about huge things going inside pockets, seeing as he's seen a number of sharks zoom in there. If anything, he'll miss this free hammerspace when he goes back home. ]
