Another Week Goes By

Monday morning comes along. It’s a quiet morning, which is much-needed after such a long island adventure. To anyone walking around the island, you’ll notice two things:

The airport is open, but the seaplane is gone.
Also, there’s a familiar face jogging around the perimeter of the housing portion of the island. That familiar face happens to be none other than the ninja rabbit himself, Snake! Looks like he’s already spending his first day on the island getting in shape!

When Tom Nook calls you all over for morning announcements, he looks pleased with himself. Even Snake comes over to join those who gather to listen to the tanuki. “Good morning, everyone! Let’s all give a warm welcome to our new friend, Snake!”

Cue applause. … Hopefully there is some applause, anyway. Snake grins and just looks very happy to be here.

“Next, I’m pleased to announce that the postal service is now open, since Orville is here to manage mail! You’re able to send individual messages to your fellow residents with gifts attached if you'd like, all handwritten if you’d like, yes. Alternatively, you can redeem what are called Nook Miles for items now -- they’re essentially a rewards system, and you can track your rewards on the Nook Miles app on your phone.”

“Essentially, the app will automatically award you for every contribution you add to the island, whether it be decorating your house, harvesting fruit, pulling weeds -- you name it! You can then turn in those Nook Miles at the airport, and that’s how we’ll be delivering items to you in the mail from now on.”

That’ll have the mail system make more sense, at least! Now it’s all on you if you decide to end up with 40 items in the mail all at once.

“The last announcement I have to make is that we’re going to make a second housing plot! The first one was a success, what with Snake moving in, and I’m grateful for Wilbur and Orville’s efforts in helping us build our island. So...with that, I need the following items for the next house:

1 Ironwood Table
2 Ironwood Dressers
1 Ironwood Clock
2 Ironwood Chairs

And just like last week, if nobody on the island has the DIY for these, I will send over the DIYs to your apps.”

He pauses, and then he looks a little...sheepish at this next announcement. “Now, I’m aware that some of you have been building bridges — and now that you all have vaulting poles and ladders, there are untouched parts of the island for you to explore. I’d like to ask you all to consider creating areas outside, such as an exercise area, perhaps even a park of sorts — though we will have someone coming in soon who may need some space.

Finally, this is just a request -- if you have any fossils, bugs, or fish, do turn them in to Blathers! He's very close to hitting his goal before we can open up a museum, so keep that in mind.”

He raises his hand, as if to end the morning announcements. “That’s all for today!”





Possible Objectives

1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the second villager house!
2. Get Nook Miles to redeem items at the post office at the airport.
3. Help Blathers by catching and donating specimens.
4. Decorate and explore the untouched part of the island (see locations page; it’s the left hand area)

NOTE: Nook Miles are not a new mechanic and are simply an IC way to justify the rewards system, now! You don't need to keep track of points; just assume the threads you turn in are characters redeeming points for items.

[Serval's got a bunch of mail to open! She sits out front of House 9, happily opening the pile, until she opens one and...

Is that a pool suddenly installed on their front step? Why.

Once that's cleared up, Serval will be breaking rocks, both with a hammer and... trying to pound them with her fists when the hammer breaks. Eventually, she'll just go build a new hammer, but you can watch and laugh until then.

Later, she'll be sitting in a clearing in the dirt, pawing through her phone. She seems to really be concentrating, and occasionally she'll put the phone down, clumsily grip a stick the wrong way, and try and write out words in the dirt. "Clay," "leaf," "log," all words found in the DIY recipes.]

[Kevin sees this odd demonstration and sits down to watch for a while. He starts to recognize those scratches in the dirt.]

Oh! You're writing things!

[sugooooooooi]

[Serval waves.] Laurent-san is teaching me! I only know a couple words so far, though.

Learning!! ...Can I learn too? Can't read.

[He admits that a little sheepishly.]

Then you're the same as me! We can practise together! He taught me some of the words from the recipes on the NookPhone thingy.

Clearing

Hello Serval, what are you doing?

[Sonico saw her and decided to join her, of course! She sits next to her and looks at the words on the dirt.]

[Serval waves.]

Practising the words Laurent-san taught me! It's kind of hard... But learning this stuff is fun, too!

Of course! What words do you think I should learn first? I still didn't understand a lot of the replies when I posted to the phone thingy.

[ Laurent watches the usual scene with the hammer breaking upon striking a rock, but what isn't so usual is that Serval goes to pound it with a fist.

Huh. ]

Hey, Serval. [ First, he tries to get her attention. ] Were you going to punch the rock to break it?

[sugooooooooi]

Hi! [wave wave] I dunno if it'll work, but Minato-san said it was worth trying! My axe broke again.

[conceptualize]

They are quite flimsy, after all... but I don't think punching it will break the rocks unless you want to hurt your hand.

[ Laurent walks up to Serval. ]

Can I see your hands?

[sugooooooooi]

'Kay.

[Serval's hands are, as always, gloved, but she shows them over and there's a little bit of wear on the knuckles.]

They'll grow back, don't worry! ...I think. They're supposed to.

[Byleth's content to just watch Serval work for a while but then she tries to pound them with her fists and oh no.]

Ah-- Serval, that's a good way to get hurt.

Aww... I hoped I could do it, but I guess clawing something is different from punching it, huh?

[She thinks for a moment.]

I've been meaning to make new tools myself, would you like to make some with me?

[ Dokja was making his way around, spotting the familiar girl working through the pile and takes in surprise at the pool that pops up. ..That sure is a whole pool. Ah, but something else is catching his attention and it's that black coat. It looks exactly like the white coat he's wearing now, but of course slightly tattered up but it still brings a smile to his face. ]

Hello, Serval. Do you mind if I take that coat? It happens to be one of my belongings. [ As he asks he's already gingerly lifting the coat into his hands, looking it over. Yeah, it's exactly how he last remembered it. ]

[sugooooooooi]

Huh? [blink] Okay! If it's yours, you can have it. How come it's all wrecked?

[afterword]

Thank you. [ For now, he'll put it on! Right on top of the other coat. Yeah. ] That's because back home was pretty dangerous, there was always a lot of fighting going on.

Pool

[Alexis has gotten used to the layout of the island; living somewhere for three straight (or not-so-straight as she's recently discovered) weeks lends itself to some measure of familiarity.

Of course, new structures pop up all the time, and she's gotten used to that as well.

But what Alexis wasn't expecting was a pool. In somebody's front yard.

She trips and falls into it, yowling and splashing and screaming for help and oh dear, that's certainly an angry cat,]

Whoa! Someone help!

[Serval calls out, but not being able to swim, she grabs a stick and offers it out so Alexis can try and grab onto that.]

[winterforecast]

[Alexis, gasping and choking, grabs onto the stick and pulls herself to shore... only to glare up at Serval and yell,]

LITERALLY WHY?

[Huh. Did he hear something outside?]

[Zeke steps out of the front door and immediately sinks beneath the surface of the water.]

Zeke-san!

[Serval flails from the side of the pool and tries to reach in and grab him.]

Are you okay?

[thezekeinator]

[Being a bird, he didn't sink too far. Serval manages to easily yoink him up by the bill.]
