Week 6

WEEK 6 LOG
Weather: All Week - Clear Skies

    A New Week

This weekend, you had unusual dreams. For some of you, they brought you to an outdoor arena that none of you had ever seen before. For others, you dreamed of a familiar place: a place that felt like home in some way. And when you fall asleep on Sunday night, you’ll find that dreams of your homes are continuing. Your home may be exactly as you remember it, at any point in time before you arrived here; perhaps there will be slight differences, or maybe it seems like a different version of your home altogether. Maybe nobody else is in it except for you.

For each dreamer, however, you’ll find that your dreams will start in your own world; but at some point, there will be a mysterious blue light that appears. It looks like a large portal that will lead you to somewhere. Choose to step inside, and you’ll be taken to a random islander’s dream. Alternatively, if you elect to remain inside of your own dream, you may suddenly see a ray of yellow light that appears, and once the light fades, another one of your fellow islanders will appear before you.

Abilities will work as they did over the weekend in your dreams and in the real world. Everyone will have one of their own, whether it be their existing powers from home or something new entirely. Even the formerly powerless will have something within them -- namely something similar to what the strange boy you saw this weekend could do. Perhaps you now have the ability to launch apples at your opponents at a lightning fast speed. Maybe you can rip a tree out of the ground with your bare hands.

And most importantly...everyone will remember their dreams when they wake. Your memories of seeing your friends’ homes (or seeing them in your home instead) will remain. These dreams seem to happen every night for the rest of the week.

    --

Things do seem to return to relative normalcy on Monday morning. Tom Nook’s announcements begin, though he only has two new things to report.

“Good morning, everyone! I hope you all had a fun weekend, yes? I apologize for not having much for you to do this time around, but hopefully you could all use it as a chance to relax. Now, though, it’s time to get back to work on event planning. I’m hoping to bring K.K. Slider over by August 15th, so if that date does work for all of you to host the event, then that’s when you’ll need to be ready by. Once you’ve all decided on what to do, the other thing I’ll need for you to do is to create flyer designs.

In my tent are some papers and markers, crayons and what have you. It may see a little...childish, for some of you, but I assure you that your creativity will come a long way in capturing the hearts of all sorts of people in this world! Feel free to submit as many designs as you want, and I’ll send them over to Nook Inc. to make copies of all of them. We’ll work with Orville to get them all sent out.”

The next and final announcement follows immediately afterwards.

“And finally, we have an exciting opportunity passed onto me by the Able Sisters! Mabel and Sable are holding a design contest for an Isle Sonrisa pattern to put on some of their clothing! Channel your island spirit into your design and create something that you think best represents the island. You can use the supplies for the flyers to draw out your designs, and submit them to Mabel by Thursday. Everyone will get a participation prize of 5,000 bells, but there will be a grand prize for the person whose design gets selected!”

He claps his hands for a brief moment in excitement.

“That’s all for your announcements! Have a wonderful week, everyone!”

Possible Objectives

1. Participate in the Able Sisters' design contest. (Note: Entries can be drawn OR written out OOCly. We will choose a winner via RNG.)
2. Work towards preparing the island for your event
3. Make those flyers and submit them to Tom Nook (drawn or written OOCly is fine)
4. See what's going on in your dreams...

[Green eyes narrowed, and she unfolded both arms and legs to lean back on her hands to look up towards Ishgard.]

...Our friend Aymeric--good heart but not a brain between those pointed ears sometimes--he landed himself in a lot of trouble with Ishgard's corrupt archbishop and the Temple Knights. So we scratched together who we could and busted the place up to save him, 'course. Blasted through some Temple Knights, probably broke a few artifacts, the usual.

We got Aymeric and we were chasin' down the archbishop, but...I was stupid. Real, real godsdamned stupid. Ran headfirst after him, didn't even think to check surroundings first. If I thought for a second I might've seen the Temple Knight up high behind us. Zephirin, his name was. Cast some kinda damned magic with his lance, and next thing I knew...there's Haurchefant, between me and certain death holdin' a shield.

[Her tail had gone still, bristling in the snow as the only sign of how angry she really was. Anything else was buried deep enough that it didn't even reflect in her voice.]

...And then it broke. He died in Aymeric's arms with me holdin' his hand--made sure to ask if I was alright, and the last thing he ever said to me is gonna be rattlin' down to my damn soul for the rest of my life.

'Do not look at me so. A smile better suits a hero.'

Wasn't the first friend I lost. Wouldn't be anythin' near the last. Hell, he wasn't even the first person to die helpin' me out. But...that was the first one that was my fault.

[He's learned bits and pieces of Scintilla's life by now, enough to know that it's one filled with no shortage of hardships. Even knowing that, however, it doesn't make it easy to hear her tale. That kind of loss... He can relate.]

...It's not something a person can easily get over, is it? Losing someone in that kind of way. Wondering why. Wondering if there was something, anything you could've done to stop it. If you'd only known better, if you'd only tried harder...

[Ren takes a deep breath. One hand, keeping warm in his pocket, moves to wrap around the leather glove that always stays there. Some things, he knew he'd never forget, and he'd always question.]

I know how you feel. And frankly, it sucks.

[Wise words, there.]

[Far from the least articulate words for the situation, at least.]

...Never had a chance to tell 'im the truth, either. Ain't something I ever told anyone--well, just one person later on. [She sighed, halfhearted affectation slipping away into that coarser accent she'd spoken with when she thought she was alone.]

The Warrior of Light n' Darkness, slayer of primals and savior of more shit than I can keep track of at this point...I ain't nothin' but a blacksmith off the streets of Limsa. They all think I'm some kind of great and powerful whatever, when it ain't nothin' but a freak chance all the way back from the creation of the bleedin' world that landed me in the position I'm at.

[Whatever the hell that meant.]

By the time I realized I was fakin' everythin' about myself so it would look kinda like I knew what I was doin', I was in way too far to stop. Almost everybody that's died for me--because of me, Haurchefant included, they died for someone they didn't even know nothin' about.

[The more she speaks, the more he can find parallels to his own life. The more he realizes that he and Scintilla share a lot in common.]

...back home, I was just a "juvenile delinquent" to most people. Some kid with a criminal record who got booted from his school and his hometown. Nothing special. I wasn't anything special at all, but extraordinary circumstances turned me into this leader of a group fighting to change society, made me this piece in a rigged game of chess that was both pawn and king. Changing hearts, destroying gods, saving humanity, and people looked up to me. Thought I was this incredible person, perfect leader, a real savior. But fact of the matter is, I'm still just a kid. I don't think I'm any of those. I don't even know how it happened, and I didn't really have any say in it, either.

[Everything had happened so fast.]

I...lost someone important to me, as well. Someone who ended up sacrificing themselves. I lost him, and hell, I lost him twice. I don't want to be the kind of person people would do that for. I don't want...that to happen.

[There's a bit of silence before he turns back to Scintilla.]

I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're not alone. I know how it feels, to be seen as some sort of hero, when you don't even know how it happened. It's not easy. And like I said, it sucks. So...just know that I understand you, and if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you.

[She didn't react much as he spoke, though one ear swiveled in his direction as unmistakable proof she was listening. It was a lot to take in, and a lot she understood better than she wanted to. Once he was done she stretched both arms over her head and fell back into the snow, looking up at the stars.]

Sorry. Ain't the kind of thing I'd want for anybody else, that's sure as hell true. But I ain't all that interested in talkin' it over with anyone. Last person I did that with had to disappear so I could survive too, and I ain't about to get you in trouble just by associatin' with me.

...S' a real load of shit sometimes, though.

C'mon. I may be a high school student, but remember, I'm a fellow godslayer. I can handle trouble. It always finds me, anyway.

[He gives her a little smile, if a somewhat tired one.]

It is. But all we can do is keep pressing on.
lightsmith: (try to imitate the way you speak)

Mm...yeah. Ain't much choice but to keep goin' at this point, huh?
