Weekend 4

WEEKEND 4 LOG
Weather: Saturday and Sunday AM - Clear skies, PM - slightly rainy

Friday night (or whenever characters fall asleep come Saturday morning), everyone on the island will be met with a mysterious dream. It’s a dream that some may find unsettling whereas others may see it as a relief -- overall though, the dream is extremely bizarre.

Everyone on the island will dream about their own worlds as they were just before they touched that mysterious floating ticket. The people, the environment -- all is still, unmoving and untouched. Everything is just as you remembered it before you arrived here, and if you choose to walk amongst the people and the places you knew...no one will move. Nothing will react.

Except one thing, and that’s a shooting star that catches your eye from up above. It makes its way across the sky, even if it’s daylight in your dream, and as soon as it fades from your vision...you wake up.

How odd.

The rest of Saturday proceeds as normal, though one will notice that on the opposite side of the island (to the southwest of the map) is a blocked off area, near the peach trees that have been planted. There’s a sign from Nook Inc on the property that reads, Reserved for Able Sisters. Interesting...wonder what’s in store for you there?

--

Sunday rolls around with something a little more pleasant. There’s a bridge on the lower part of the island that you can use to get across to the other side of the island. On the other side is a quaint little building called “ABLE SISTERS”. In the display window is a green dress and a pair of white mary janes; from the outside you can hear the distinct sound of a sewing machine at work.

When you walk in, Mabel is there to greet you, bright and peppy as always. There are various different outfits out for display, but if you ask Mabel, their selection is limitless. The way the process works, she explains, is that you can look through the catalogs of clothing available (minus seasonal items), sorted by item type, and place in an order for any of the items. The clothing will arrive in your mailbox the following day.

There is also a dressing room for you to try on any clothes that are currently on display. (For OOC purposes, if there is an item you really want, feel free to assume it's on display at any given time.)

Other than Mabel, however, is Sable, busy at work in the back and doesn’t even look up from her work. And in the lower left hand corner is...someone who isn’t a hedgehog.

Rather...you’ve got yourselves a cat on your hands. He's busy at work, but you might happen to catch him looking at you as you explore the shop.

> Approach?

[The silence probably speaks for itself.]

...Did you know vampires have really sensitive noses?

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-28 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you ward off a vampire when you came back from the gas station?

[ Laurent can't help but to laugh, because yeah. Gas stinks. ]

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-28 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
He wouldn’t let me in the house. We had an entire conversation with me standing in the driveway on our phones.

[To this day, she still feels kind of sorry.]

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-28 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's unfortunate... I imagine having a very sensitive nose would be awful, especially in a modern civilization.

Though, it's not your fault.
transfusionem: (pic#12951292)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-28 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No, the gas thing was totally my fault.

And honestly it’s probably not as bad in modern civilization as it was back in the day, depending on where you were. At least in modern cities people don’t dump their toilet water in the streets.
conceptualize: (pic#14102708)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Now they just dump them in natural bodies of water instead.

[ Unfortunate either way. ]

Hm, I suppose it would be my turn then? I don't think I have many personal stories to tell, but I did hear funny ones from others.

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I’ve heard some witches can make it just disappear but I’m not sure how true that is.

[There’s a balance that needs to be kept so she doubts it, at least.]

C’mon, there has to be something stupid you’ve done... But I guess secondhand stories are fine.

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think I was quite the responsible person after I moved out.

[ Laurent thinks. He has a strange sense of pride where he doesn't like showing weakness, but it's more of a habitual defensive mechanism than pride itself. Though he wonders if it's pride that gets in the way of telling Adelaide about stupid shit he's done, but had gotten away with. ]

Let's see... during homecoming parade when I was in college, there was a person who drove a truck into a fraternity house. Thankfully, no one was injured, but it left... quite an impression on everyone there, so to say. I was there to see it, and fortunately on the other side of the road when it happened.

[ Well, he thinks he can tell this story at least. ]

I don't regret doing this, but I pretty much swindled two thousand dollars from drunk guys at a party with poker. I used the money to buy a watch for my colleague to gain favor for networking purposes.

[ Card sharking is his hobby... ]

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[She rests her hands on her lap, all attention on Laurent. She raises an eyebrow at the story about the crash, grimacing a bit.]

Christ. Glad no one was hurt, at least.

[But the poker story is much more interesting, admittedly. She looks amused, and maybe a little impressed.]

If they were drunk and gambling they probably would’ve lost that money anyways. Though networking bribes are a bit scheme-y.

[She will never bet against Laurent in poker...]

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Networking bribes are always pretty scheme-y. I'll admit that.

[ Don't bet against Laurent in anything related to card games... ]

But I've built up my reputation from the ground up and I don't think it would be too farfetched to say that I have influence over thousands of people in the city I lived in.

[ Whether that's a good or bad influence... Laurent won't say, but it's certainly an Influence. But the reason why Laurent tells Adelaide this is that hopefully she'll understand why he doesn't have as many stories to share regarding him and his mistakes. He was very careful not to make any. ]
transfusionem: (pic#12570512)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, Adelaide is reckless enough to bet against him in cards. It’s unfortunate.

She does catch his drift, though, and a frown crosses her lips for a moment as she considers this.]

You make it sound like you’re a powerful man.

[Even without taking being “End” into consideration.]

Isn’t it kind of lonely and exhausting, though?

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I did work hard for it though, and I like to keep a low profile otherwise. I'm just a teacher, dealer, and a freelancing translator otherwise. I'd like to think it was worth it, since it can also mean I can help out friends of mine, such as looking for decent jobs or getting recommendation letters.

[ He leans back into his seat though, looking up at the ceiling as he ponders Adelaide's question. Where he stands on living his life is lukewarm at best, having lived his life like this. ]

I have a few friends back home. I'd like to believe we're pretty close, considering some of them are too stupid to make use of the connections I have.

[ He loves and insults them in the same breath. A true privilege of being close friends. ]
transfusionem: (pic#12951339)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That’s pretty noble of you. Looking out for everybody else and working hard.

[She wonder if he maybe works too hard. If he really needed this break to just take a pause from all his responsibilities.

Her knee bounces, and she looks thoughtful still. It’s not quite pity, she thinks, but she still will admit there’s a part of her that wants to fuss and make things better.]

Must mean they like you for you, so I’d say that makes you pretty close, yeah. [...] Do you miss them?
conceptualize: (pic#14102671)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I do, but the current situation makes things complicated.

[ There's no hesitation when he says this, because Adelaide knows why, and he doesn't see a reason to make it vague. ]

I think the most interesting favor I had to take on was getting a pet hyena for the Concept of Banishment.

[ Yeah that was... something. ]
transfusionem: (pic#12570519)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[She still thinks that things can be okay for him, but she’s not going to force them to dwell on things. They... Hopefully have time to figure things out.]

...Was there a reason they wanted a hyena or did they just want to be a pain to you?
conceptualize: (pic#14101291)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
They liked hyenas, so they wanted one. I suppose it's a little bit of both.

[ Despite that, he laughs a little. ]

Though I'm on neutral terms with them... I wouldn't say their usual self is likable.

What, you mean a supernatural entity embodying a metaphysical concept of reality might be kind of a dick?

[That's like saying water is wet, she thinks.]

I would've never expected that.
conceptualize: (pic#14102677)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Adelaide's response almost makes him snort, but he chuckles in its place. ]

Let's just say that they fit "Banishment" more than anybody else. Though, I don't see much difference between Concepts and humans--any humanoid, really. Everyone acts the same if they're powerless, or if they have power over others. But just like that, there will always be some who care about the weaker ones and want to protect them.

[ He looks over at her. ]

Do you think otherwise?
transfusionem: (pic#12951363)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it depends on the person... I've met a few people who think that they're better than humans just because, and they want to use their power to control or hurt humans. They probably would've still been cruel as a human, yeah, but having power meant they could get away with it more easily.

[She rubs at her collar bone, a frown on her face. After a moment it passes and she smiles again, but her hand lingers there.]

...Though you do still get people who want to help, no matter who and what they are, and I think there's more people like that then people who want to harm.
conceptualize: (pic#14101291)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Power can easily make beings haughty, no matter who or what they are.

[ This is why co-existence is hard, because pride exists. Laurent thinks that's one of the worst sins, because it also drags stubbornness into the equation and unwillingness to change. It's rather annoying to deal with...

Anyway, Laurent stares at Adelaide for a second.
]

Did you get hurt?

[ He's not sure why Adelaide is rubbing at her collarbone, and can't really think of another reason why she'd be doing that in the first place. ]
transfusionem: (pic#12951336)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah, yeah.

[She blinks, before shaking her head.]

Ah, no. Or, well, not recently, I just remembered someone who was, y'know.

[She raises her hand to wave it vaguely.]

Kind of one of those people who was a raging asshole because they could get away with it.

[Which isn't much of an explanation, she knows, so she sighs and tugs the collar of her shirt to expose her shoulder. There's what looks to be a very distinct - and very large - bite mark stretching from her collarbone to over her shoulder.]

...On the upside, learned that I could do healing magic when that happened, so I guess I have something I can thank him for.
conceptualize: (pic#14102691)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-29 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Laurent's eyes go wide when he sees it, because... wow. ]

If anything, I wish you could have learned in a less dire way.

[ But it happened already, though Laurent stares at it a little more before quietly sighing. ]

Did you at least give them a punch to the face?
transfusionem: (pic#12951313)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-29 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah. You and me both.

[She adjusts her collar, covering it up again. She hasn't... Shown many people that scar, but. Well. If there's anyone she feels safe enough showing, it's Laurent.]

I'd... Like to think I got payback, yeah.

[She may or may not have stabbed him. Who could say!]
conceptualize: (pic#14102661)

[personal profile] conceptualize 2020-07-30 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Then that's good enough.

[ He won't ask how she did it, but as long as it happened... it's fine. ]

How strong is your magic potential? Just got healing?
transfusionem: (pic#13098099)

[personal profile] transfusionem 2020-07-30 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's not as strong as it could be... I can do some healing, and I've been practicing with summoning, but a lot of the basics I haven't really grasped yet.

[She runs a hand through her hair, wondering how much she needs to explain.]

There's a lot of different kinds of magic, and people who can do magic tend to have an affinity for a particular kind - like magic influencing the weather, or people, or plants, or whatever, but there's a few things anyone with magic ability can do and a few kinds of magic where it's more the method than the affinity... The basics are stuff like simple charms and enchantments or summoning a familiar, stuff like that. I can't really manage enchantments or summon a familiar that has a coherent shape... Yet, anyways.

[If she doesn't mention that familiars are something even Literal Children can summon maybe it won't seem that embarrassing...!]
