Another Week Goes By

Monday morning comes along. It’s a quiet morning, which is much-needed after such a long island adventure. To anyone walking around the island, you’ll notice two things:

The airport is open, but the seaplane is gone.
Also, there’s a familiar face jogging around the perimeter of the housing portion of the island. That familiar face happens to be none other than the ninja rabbit himself, Snake! Looks like he’s already spending his first day on the island getting in shape!

When Tom Nook calls you all over for morning announcements, he looks pleased with himself. Even Snake comes over to join those who gather to listen to the tanuki. “Good morning, everyone! Let’s all give a warm welcome to our new friend, Snake!”

Cue applause. … Hopefully there is some applause, anyway. Snake grins and just looks very happy to be here.

“Next, I’m pleased to announce that the postal service is now open, since Orville is here to manage mail! You’re able to send individual messages to your fellow residents with gifts attached if you'd like, all handwritten if you’d like, yes. Alternatively, you can redeem what are called Nook Miles for items now -- they’re essentially a rewards system, and you can track your rewards on the Nook Miles app on your phone.”

“Essentially, the app will automatically award you for every contribution you add to the island, whether it be decorating your house, harvesting fruit, pulling weeds -- you name it! You can then turn in those Nook Miles at the airport, and that’s how we’ll be delivering items to you in the mail from now on.”

That’ll have the mail system make more sense, at least! Now it’s all on you if you decide to end up with 40 items in the mail all at once.

“The last announcement I have to make is that we’re going to make a second housing plot! The first one was a success, what with Snake moving in, and I’m grateful for Wilbur and Orville’s efforts in helping us build our island. So...with that, I need the following items for the next house:

1 Ironwood Table
2 Ironwood Dressers
1 Ironwood Clock
2 Ironwood Chairs

And just like last week, if nobody on the island has the DIY for these, I will send over the DIYs to your apps.”

He pauses, and then he looks a little...sheepish at this next announcement. “Now, I’m aware that some of you have been building bridges — and now that you all have vaulting poles and ladders, there are untouched parts of the island for you to explore. I’d like to ask you all to consider creating areas outside, such as an exercise area, perhaps even a park of sorts — though we will have someone coming in soon who may need some space.

Finally, this is just a request -- if you have any fossils, bugs, or fish, do turn them in to Blathers! He's very close to hitting his goal before we can open up a museum, so keep that in mind.”

He raises his hand, as if to end the morning announcements. “That’s all for today!”





Possible Objectives

1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the second villager house!
2. Get Nook Miles to redeem items at the post office at the airport.
3. Help Blathers by catching and donating specimens.
4. Decorate and explore the untouched part of the island (see locations page; it’s the left hand area)

NOTE: Nook Miles are not a new mechanic and are simply an IC way to justify the rewards system, now! You don't need to keep track of points; just assume the threads you turn in are characters redeeming points for items.

[There's a long, quiet moment, where Adelaide realizes she might have said too much.

After a while, she lets out a gusty sigh.]

Mm... Not really, I guess.

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent is quiet during the long moment until Adelaide speaks. Laurent is a loner, despite how many people he's surrounded by. It's never really something he lamented, but he feels like he can somewhat understand Adelaide's feelings. ]

What's there to say?

[She pushes herself up right, finding a shallow spot in the pool to sit so her head is at least above the water.]

My parents were shitty, I was the weird kid in high school who couldn't hang out outside of class or practice, and college... Well. I didn't stick it out for very long, so who knows what kind of friends I could have made.

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent looks at the water as he listens. He glances up at her and his gaze stays. ]

Hey, Adelaide... Do you want to go back? Back home.

[transfusionem]

[...Ah. That's a good question. Not one she's sure she wants to answer, but she's also not sure she has an answer. Her life turned around, sure, but...]

...I have a business to run.

[Which...is not a yes or a no, which is probably telling enough.]

[conceptualize]

[ It is, and it makes Laurent smile just a little. Though whether that's his usual smile or something that conveys a different emotion... well, it's hard to tell from how cryptic it is. ]

Yeah, I suppose you do. It sounds like you have a strong sense of responsibility. And I think that's admirable.

[ But. But. ]

So, before you go back, let's make a lot of nice memories here with people who care about you.

[transfusionem]

I guess so...

[Responsibility, obligation, all the same thing, really.

She looks over at Laurent with a soft smile.]

Are you saying you care about me, Laurent.]

[conceptualize]

I do.

[ Laurent isn't afraid to admit that, and he's always enjoyed her company. His smile widens. ]

So.

[ He splashes at Adelaide a little by slapping the surface of the river. ]

Let's enjoy ourselves.

[transfusionem]

[Ah. She wasn't expecting such an easy confirmation, and she's a little stunned by it.

But the splash is a distraction, and a laugh bubbles out of her.]

Alright.

[And she'll splash him right back!! Take that, Laurent.]

[conceptualize]

[ His face gets splashed with water and after breathing out, he smacks some water out of the river--it is a rather large splash.

It's payback!! ]

[transfusionem]

[A counter splash!

Adelaide is also getting closer... You better prepare yourself, boy.]

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent splashes right back and goes underwater for a bit in an attempt to surprise Adelaide by suddenly popping out of the water right by her side.

Boo. ]

[transfusionem]

[Oh no, she's about to be bamboozled. She just knows it, but she still jumps and lets out a startled yelp when he comes up beside her.

It doesn't last for long, though, before she moves to tackle him into the water.]

[conceptualize]

[ Oh, he did not... expect that. That's why he falls back, but ends up sitting up on the bottom of the river, but his head is barely above the surface when he does so.

But he also hit his head on the edge of the river, so that. Kinda hurts. ]

[transfusionem]

[Oh, no.]

Oh no!

[That looked painful...She reaches up to feel for any sort of bump, regardless of any protests Laurent might have, awkwardly sprawled on him.]

Are you okay?!

[conceptualize]

[ There's a small bump, but maybe it'll get worse later. Laurent keeps quiet even when Adelaide touches it and he just wants to fully sink into the river as if the river water is some kind of miracle cure for his pain. ]

I'm... fine.

[ He can endure. It's okay! It's not as bad as getting an entire couch ram him. ]

[transfusionem]

I'm so sorry, I should have thought things through...

[Yeah, she's fretting now. She pulls back so she can stand up and help Laurent to his feet.]

We should ice that... Do we have ice here?

[conceptualize]

[ With Adelaide's help, Laurent gets up to his feet, but ends up wobbling a little. He feels a little dizzy. ]

I don't think so, but I'll be fine, really.

[ Pain is only temporary... yeah. ]

Don't worry about me.

[transfusionem]

You don't get to tell me what to do.

[Truly, her stubbornness comes out most in moments like these. She shepherds Laurent to the riverbank, keeping a hand to his back to make sure he doesn't topple.]

There should be ice at the grocery store, right...?

[conceptualize]

Yeah...? Maybe...?

[ It never occurred to him to get ice at the supermarket.

...

He wonders why, but before he can ponder on that any further, he has a headache again. ]

Wait, stop. I feel dizzy.

[ Sorry, he's actually fragile. ]

[transfusionem]

[She stops, a frown on her face.

After a moment...]

Do you want me to carry you?

[conceptualize]

No--

[ Yeah, just do it. ]

[transfusionem]

[Up he goes! In a princess carry, because he deserves it.

And off she goes to the grocery store! Where they hopefully carry ice. What kind of grocery store doesn't carry ice?]

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent doesn't know, but this island has been all sorts of weird, so he wouldn't be surprised if this store didn't carry ice. But it's not like he gets to find out either, because he ends up passing out a little after she starts carrying him. At least he was cooperative when she lifted him.

Sorry, Adelaide........... ]

[transfusionem]

[...Oh.

Well.

This doesn't make him easier to carry, but she at least manages to get to the store, get ice (thankfully!), and get him back to her home. Hopefully Scintilla and Sonico won't mind...?

She lays him down in bed, wraps up some ice, and tucks it under his head. And then she guess she...waits. And despairs over how her bed is gonna get super damp, probably.]
