Another Week Goes By

Monday morning comes along. It’s a quiet morning, which is much-needed after such a long island adventure. To anyone walking around the island, you’ll notice two things:

The airport is open, but the seaplane is gone.
Also, there’s a familiar face jogging around the perimeter of the housing portion of the island. That familiar face happens to be none other than the ninja rabbit himself, Snake! Looks like he’s already spending his first day on the island getting in shape!

When Tom Nook calls you all over for morning announcements, he looks pleased with himself. Even Snake comes over to join those who gather to listen to the tanuki. “Good morning, everyone! Let’s all give a warm welcome to our new friend, Snake!”

Cue applause. … Hopefully there is some applause, anyway. Snake grins and just looks very happy to be here.

“Next, I’m pleased to announce that the postal service is now open, since Orville is here to manage mail! You’re able to send individual messages to your fellow residents with gifts attached if you'd like, all handwritten if you’d like, yes. Alternatively, you can redeem what are called Nook Miles for items now -- they’re essentially a rewards system, and you can track your rewards on the Nook Miles app on your phone.”

“Essentially, the app will automatically award you for every contribution you add to the island, whether it be decorating your house, harvesting fruit, pulling weeds -- you name it! You can then turn in those Nook Miles at the airport, and that’s how we’ll be delivering items to you in the mail from now on.”

That’ll have the mail system make more sense, at least! Now it’s all on you if you decide to end up with 40 items in the mail all at once.

“The last announcement I have to make is that we’re going to make a second housing plot! The first one was a success, what with Snake moving in, and I’m grateful for Wilbur and Orville’s efforts in helping us build our island. So...with that, I need the following items for the next house:

1 Ironwood Table
2 Ironwood Dressers
1 Ironwood Clock
2 Ironwood Chairs

And just like last week, if nobody on the island has the DIY for these, I will send over the DIYs to your apps.”

He pauses, and then he looks a little...sheepish at this next announcement. “Now, I’m aware that some of you have been building bridges — and now that you all have vaulting poles and ladders, there are untouched parts of the island for you to explore. I’d like to ask you all to consider creating areas outside, such as an exercise area, perhaps even a park of sorts — though we will have someone coming in soon who may need some space.

Finally, this is just a request -- if you have any fossils, bugs, or fish, do turn them in to Blathers! He's very close to hitting his goal before we can open up a museum, so keep that in mind.”

He raises his hand, as if to end the morning announcements. “That’s all for today!”





Possible Objectives

1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the second villager house!
2. Get Nook Miles to redeem items at the post office at the airport.
3. Help Blathers by catching and donating specimens.
4. Decorate and explore the untouched part of the island (see locations page; it’s the left hand area)

NOTE: Nook Miles are not a new mechanic and are simply an IC way to justify the rewards system, now! You don't need to keep track of points; just assume the threads you turn in are characters redeeming points for items.

[While Byleth isn't ending up with the avalanches some folks do in their mailboxes, she did end up with a good number of items this time! She can be found outside House 11, sorting through them with idle curiosity. Most of the items she's keeping, but some--namely the Mohawk Wig and Suspender Outfit are being set aside to either give away or sell. Otherwise, she might be found examining the fortune-telling set with curiosity or turning the statue of a matoi over in her hands contemplatively.]

[Lio's taken to going for a walk every morning, just to get up and out and seeing what shenanigans have broken out since he went to bed (he is so thankful for his nice, polite, calm housemates). Sometimes it's a long one, sometimes it's a short one.

Today's a longer walk, bringing him by Byleth's house, and--]

Oh, Lio, good morning. Is that what this is?

[She offers the statue for him to examine.]

It came to me in the mail. I wasn't sure what it was.

Yeah.

[He takes it, turning it over and spinning it a little with a small smile.]

It looks like Galo's. If he were here, he could give you the whole slideshow. The idiot is obsessed with them, to the point that when we were trying to fight Kray he couldn't until I made him one out of my flames.

[A laugh.]

It's got something to do with Japanese firefighters.

Galo... a friend of yours?

[She seems amused at the explanation.]

...yeah, I guess we're friends. We're partners, sure, but...yeah, we're friends. Kinda hard not to be after everything.

What's he like?

[... Besides apparently an idiot.]

[Look.]

This is a guy who, when seeing a Burnish flare tearing apart the city in a rage, chases after it because he could tell I was crying and he didn't want me to do something I'd regret. Despite meeting me twice, one of those time when I was arrested and the other when I tied him up in a cave so the Burnish could get out.

[Pffff--]

Ah, that kind of person... I see.

[She pauses.]

I've been meaning to ask, what do you mean by Burnish anyway?

[regression]

[ He was just passing by, but since Byleth is sorting out her things, he's here to see what she got. Maybe there's something useful?

Except he's drawn toe the fortune-telling set she's examining. ]

... I didn't think the people here would be interested in fortune telling.

[rupturingheaven]

I'd never paid this sort of thing a lot of attention before.

[A pause.]

It seems interesting though.

Reading fate is dangerous and the price is high.

[ He says this from experience. ]

... But a set like this is harmless. [ Hm. ] You have never had your fortune told even once?

Is that so...

[... Honestly, if she thinks about it, it's not really that surprising.]

Not even once. If I did, it was long enough ago that I don't remember it.

[ Joonghyuk usually doesn’t have time to play games like this... And it’s also still useless in his opinion, but he’s interested in Byleth due to her background. Might as well play nice. ]

Would you like it read, then?

[ He has never done it, but it shouldn’t be too hard. There’s a manual, right? ]

[There is, in fact, a manual!]

Sure, sounds good.

[Seems harmless enough!]

[ He picks up the manual, reads it real quick, then shuffles the set of cards. ]

Pick six.

[She hums thoughtfully, then picks six cards.]

[ hitsugaya approaches byleth, curiously looking at the items she's set aside from afar. he doesn't think he'll approach, but he sees that mohawk...and steps a little closer. ]

Their item selection process leaves a lot to be desired.

It certainly does... Some of the items are interesting, others are... Well.

[She's not so subtly eyeing the mohawk wig.]

Did they at least consider leaving slits in the wig for your ears?

[That actually makes her curious, so she'll try it on...]

[ that does not look right on her, and hitsugaya raises an eyebrow. at least it looks like her ears have room to peek out... ]

I have a feeling our new neighbor would appreciate more than either of us would.

[Yeah, she's immediately removing it. That felt weird.]

You think so? Maybe I'll see if he wants it in that case. I was planning to sell it if there were no takers.
