Week 2
Weather: Cloudy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AM and rainy PM; clear skies Thursday and Friday AM, slightly cloudy PM
- Arrival
A full week has come and gone, and you may be left with more questions than answers. There’s no word on the progress of figuring out how to get all of you home just yet -- you only have the land, an abandoned sea plane, your new homes and a garden to get you through this upcoming week.
...So far, that is.
Come Monday at nine AM though, Tom Nook does his morning announcements once more. Seems like he has something new for you to work with:
“Good morning, Isle Sonrisa! Great news -- we now have a grocery store up and running for everyone! The grocery store is located right about House #5, and it has a wide selection of foods and ingredients for you to choose from. While we’re still mailing kitchen equipment over to all of you, food shouldn’t be a problem any longer. The grocery store will be run by my apprentices…Timmy and Tommy!
We also have tulips in stock, now! Red, white, and yellow are our only colors, but I've heard that sometimes watering them next to one another may give you new colors. Perhaps you can try that out yourselves, yes?”
He’s very happy about this announcement. He knows how much you all wanted your food, after all! Time to continue with the announcements, though:
“The only other thing I have for you this morning is very, very important. I know there are many of you here on the island already, but assuming that most of you will be going back home, we need to get more permanent residents on the island. Yes, yes. Permanent residents from this world who may be interested in experiencing life on an island!
What I’m asking all of you to do is to prepare housing plots for our new residents. I’ve already designated areas on the island for them, and as such, your Nook Phones now have a map app so you can see where the new land plots will be. Yes, yes. Now, to prepare the first housing plot… I need the following:
1 Log Dining Table
1 Log Extra-long Sofa
1 Log Decorative Shelves
1 Log Wall-mounted Clock
If none of you have a DIY for any item in particular, I’ll go ahead and send the DIY recipe for it to your phones. It will show up in all of your DIY apps.”
He smiles at everyone with his trademark tanuki grin.
“And that’s about all I have for you today! Good luck, everyone!”
Possible Objectives
1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for a potential new resident!
2. Stock up on food and cook for yourselves and your fellow residents.
3. More to come this week...
NOTE: The map app will have a picture map that correlates to the one on the Locations page. There will be a list of resident names when you click on the tents. The map on the locations page will be updated OOCly later on Monday night.
(OOC: Welcome to Week 2! A reminder that Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week. Please direct all questions to the FAQ under the Week 2 top level.
Here's this week's Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

Could I try a sample some time? It sounds like an interesting way to cook something.
no subject
Of course! You can even come over and give it a try if you want.

...
It's not fear, but... it's something else. ]
It won't burn my hand or anything?
no subject
Not unless you do something really stupid and ill-advised. And I'll be there to help!
no subject
[ Hands are useful. Fire also hurts. ]
Anything interesting you've seen recently? Other than the brick oven.
no subject
[Only be an idiot on accident!]
Hm... Well, I got a fax machine, but I don't know if there's anyone to fax or anyone that could fax me.
no subject
[ What an ancient artifact. ]
Maybe if someone else receives one, you can send faxes back and forth?
no subject
[She looks thoughtful for a moment.]
Like sending the least subtle secret messages? You can't exactly fax someone quietly.
[She assumes.]
no subject
[ He laughs a little. ]
Especially when you're jailed inside your own house for some reason.
[ Maybe the fax machine is better for Dokja... ]
no subject
[Maybe she should give it to him... He could send out an SOS.]
This entire island was almost a jail. Could you imagine?
[It would've been great.]
no subject
Oh, are you talking about the name poll? It looks like some people are pretty persistent about that name. There was even a signpost right outside the bouncy castle.
no subject
But also be a bit more optimistic! Geez!]
That doesn't surprise me at all. Kids love memes, you know!
[Adelaide you're only 21 stop talking like you're some middle aged woman trying to be hip]
no subject
Adelaide... how old are you?
no subject
Twenty-one.
no subject
[ Yeah. No shame. ]
Memes transcend ages, so anyone can enjoy them. Though, it's pretty interesting--different worlds sharing the same thing.
no subject
[She is, at least, not embarrassed. Which is probably good?]
Yeah...But it's nice having that common ground with people, even if it's over something as stupid as Gay Baby Jail. Makes us feel more like people who could be friends, if we met back home.
no subject
[ He hopes that answers your question, Adelaide. ]
I can't believe, out of all things, the things that unite various foreigners are memes.
[ Sometimes Laurent wonders if this is all just one big fever dream. ]
no subject
[Which is obviously teasing.]
Can't you? People'll unite over what's most familiar, and humor can be so universal.
[Though it could be a fever dream.]
no subject
It can be. Though, after coming here, I see things are more universal than I thought. It really makes a new perspective on things. Music seems to be one of them.
no subject
She looks down at her bowl, tapping her spoon on the rim.]
I think...the things that are most universal are the things that matter most or that have the biggest impact. Things that make people smile are amazing, no matter how stupid or irreverent they might be... And then music touches people's hearts, y'know? It can make people feel and that matters...
And then there's food, too. One of the nicest things you can do is share food you've made with somebody else.
[A small, sheepish grin.]
...Or that's what I think, anyways. Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass.
no subject
... ]
I think you're right. The things that can make people smile are a lot more important than people think. There's power in generosity, kindness, and connections for those who share those things with good intentions. More than anything, if you can be kind to others even in the face of adversity, I think that's one of the greatest strengths anyone can have.
no subject
You do?
[She...wasn't expecting that, but her smile gets a little less shy.]
Well, the one really good thing is that there's not much adversity on these islands, unless you count scorpions... So not much need for flexing.
no subject
That's true. I'm glad most of us can relax. Though, speaking of flexing and scorpions, did you know Joonghyuk caught a scorpion and crushed it with his bare hands, but got stung anyway?
no subject
Well, if he crushed it, then he probably deserved to get stung. [A beat.] Is he okay?
no subject
Yeah, he woke up and I was dragging him back to his house. He woke up pretty quickly too.
[ ... ]
He seemed very... meek for a second. It was kinda cute.
