Week 2
Weather: Cloudy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday AM and rainy PM; clear skies Thursday and Friday AM, slightly cloudy PM
- Arrival
A full week has come and gone, and you may be left with more questions than answers. There’s no word on the progress of figuring out how to get all of you home just yet -- you only have the land, an abandoned sea plane, your new homes and a garden to get you through this upcoming week.
...So far, that is.
Come Monday at nine AM though, Tom Nook does his morning announcements once more. Seems like he has something new for you to work with:
“Good morning, Isle Sonrisa! Great news -- we now have a grocery store up and running for everyone! The grocery store is located right about House #5, and it has a wide selection of foods and ingredients for you to choose from. While we’re still mailing kitchen equipment over to all of you, food shouldn’t be a problem any longer. The grocery store will be run by my apprentices…Timmy and Tommy!
We also have tulips in stock, now! Red, white, and yellow are our only colors, but I've heard that sometimes watering them next to one another may give you new colors. Perhaps you can try that out yourselves, yes?”
He’s very happy about this announcement. He knows how much you all wanted your food, after all! Time to continue with the announcements, though:
“The only other thing I have for you this morning is very, very important. I know there are many of you here on the island already, but assuming that most of you will be going back home, we need to get more permanent residents on the island. Yes, yes. Permanent residents from this world who may be interested in experiencing life on an island!
What I’m asking all of you to do is to prepare housing plots for our new residents. I’ve already designated areas on the island for them, and as such, your Nook Phones now have a map app so you can see where the new land plots will be. Yes, yes. Now, to prepare the first housing plot… I need the following:
1 Log Dining Table
1 Log Extra-long Sofa
1 Log Decorative Shelves
1 Log Wall-mounted Clock
If none of you have a DIY for any item in particular, I’ll go ahead and send the DIY recipe for it to your phones. It will show up in all of your DIY apps.”
He smiles at everyone with his trademark tanuki grin.
“And that’s about all I have for you today! Good luck, everyone!”
Possible Objectives
1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for a potential new resident!
2. Stock up on food and cook for yourselves and your fellow residents.
3. More to come this week...
NOTE: The map app will have a picture map that correlates to the one on the Locations page. There will be a list of resident names when you click on the tents. The map on the locations page will be updated OOCly later on Monday night.
(OOC: Welcome to Week 2! A reminder that Mod Coco who plays Tom Nook has work and will not be able to NPC throughout the week. Please direct all questions to the FAQ under the Week 2 top level.
Here's this week's Weekly Plotting Post for you all to use!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let us know! Have fun!)

I think you're right. The things that can make people smile are a lot more important than people think. There's power in generosity, kindness, and connections for those who share those things with good intentions. More than anything, if you can be kind to others even in the face of adversity, I think that's one of the greatest strengths anyone can have.
no subject
You do?
[She...wasn't expecting that, but her smile gets a little less shy.]
Well, the one really good thing is that there's not much adversity on these islands, unless you count scorpions... So not much need for flexing.
no subject
That's true. I'm glad most of us can relax. Though, speaking of flexing and scorpions, did you know Joonghyuk caught a scorpion and crushed it with his bare hands, but got stung anyway?
no subject
Well, if he crushed it, then he probably deserved to get stung. [A beat.] Is he okay?
no subject
Yeah, he woke up and I was dragging him back to his house. He woke up pretty quickly too.
[ ... ]
He seemed very... meek for a second. It was kinda cute.
no subject
Meek Joonghyuk... I wish I could’ve seen that.
[She tilts her head.]
Was this before or after Dokja got sick?
no subject
[ Give him a moment. ]
Like a lost puppy.
no subject
Well...I don't want him to get stung again but I kind of wish I could see that... More people should be open and vulnerable, y'know!
no subject
[ Though, he sighs. ]
Though I suppose that's some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.
no subject
[It's possible - Adelaide can't say she really knows everyone here or knows their motivations.
She rests her chin on her hand, looking at Laurent curiously.]
Do you trust me? I won't get mad if you say no.
no subject
[ He smiles. It doesn't quite reach his ears. What is trust? A belief in someone? Predictability? He could trust Joonghyuk to immediately kill him if he hurt Dokja in any way, and sometimes it feels like it's the only kind of trust he knows. ]
Maybe in a way, I do. Though if you spend more time with me, it won't be a "maybe".
no subject
But... She's still glad that there's even the possibility for trust.]
Well, I can't say I'm opposed to spending more time with you. It'll be nice - you're a pretty nice guy, after all.
no subject
[ Like right now, he hasn't shown hostility to her at all. ]
Are you familiar with fighting games? Got one over there if you want to play with me.
no subject
Good! We gotta hang out anyways, teach you how to use the brick oven.
[She snorts, shaking her head.]
I'm familiar enough to know I'm awful at them and you'll probably kick my ass, but I'm up for it.
no subject
[ Laurent gets up from the chair and starts walking over to the arcade machine.
Let's rock. ]
no subject
Is there a prize?
[She follows him, looking at the machine dubiously.]
no subject
[ ... ]
Of a reasonable level.
[ Time to find out if he was telling the truth or lying through his teeth. It's a very typical fighting game with a joystick and some buttons on both sides for two player shenanigans. ]
no subject
[She grins.]
I'll let you pick something unreasonable, if you kick my ass.
[Which, he might, because Adelaide's strategy is "mash the buttons and pray".]
no subject
If you say that, I wonder what your limits would be.
[ He still plays pretty poorly. Sometimes his character tries to catch Adelaide's in the air, but can't reach. ]
no subject
Adelaide can't believe people can play this for money.]
Maybe I just think you won't decide to ask something of me that I'd say no to.
no subject
[ He says that ominously, but she's right. If there's something he wants personally, he always finds it hard to ask for it. He'd rather get it himself, but that's not what things work here.
Laurent does try his best, but fighting games are unfortunately not for him. Maybe it's a weird kind of luck that my coin gave, but it flipped tails, which meant he lost. ]
Ah, looks like I lost. That was pretty fun though.
[ His fingers have button imprints. ]
no subject
We'll have to have a rematch sometime!
[Maybe they will eventually get good...]
no subject
You're free to come and practice any time you'd like. I'd be happy to take you on again.
[ Though, the prize should be given. ]
Is there something you want from me, since you won?
no subject
I'll always be up for a rematch.
[She pauses, considering.]
...I didn't think that far ahead, honestly. Uh...
[Hm. What kind of thing can she even ask for?]
no subject
[ Within reasonable limits. Laurent just watches her with an amused look on his face. ]
