A New Week

It’s the week of the event, and now’s your chance for any last-minute preparations! The entertainment area is coming along just fine with the new chairs and decorations and the lineup of musicians ready to put on a concert for everyone. A concert is the perfect way to get someone like K.K. Slider’s attention, surely! Furthermore, with a library underway, the bottom left hand area of the island is coming along nicely.

Tom Nook’s announcements are all about the event, too. You have a big weekend coming up, after all!

“Hello, everyone! Thank you all for your hard work with the event these past few weeks. We’re not done yet, but I’ve gone ahead and copied all of the flyers. Orville is helping me mail them all out to residents all over, so we’ll hopefully have a great turnout to the Isle Sonrisa concert this weekend! Now…

“For more preparations, I’d urge you to consider food for the event as well. Perhaps today may be too early to start preparing anything, but as K.K. Slider will be here on the 15th, maybe Friday evening would be a good time to do so. Oh-! Speaking of food…”

Tom Nook will turn towards Ren with a smile on his face. “I went ahead and added a few little bits to Cafe Leblanc. I thought it might be a popular spot this weekend, so I went ahead and added more tables and chairs for people and added some wooden plank flooring for you! Yes, yes -- er, if you’d rather me take away these changes, I can do so, but I hope you do enjoy them.”

Then, he’ll turn back towards the rest of the group: “Ah, the only other thing I have for you is a little Q&A for our island residents! I thought that our visitors would enjoy getting to know those responsible for putting on such a fantastic event and creating such a nice island. Normally I’d ask you to write it on a piece of paper, but… I thought it’d be fun to do this over messaging so you can all learn more about one another, too! Assuming you all don’t know enough about one another already… Of course, if you’d rather it be private, then you can submit it to me personally in writing.

“I’ve sent the questionnaire to each of you in a group chat. Please give me your answers as soon as possible.”

The questionnaire is as follows:

For anyone checking the bulletin board, there are a couple of requests, just like when Snake asked you all for items! One is from Raymond:

As much as I love soaking in the nature of this beautiful island, I’m missing something in my own home... office supplies. Can you guys do me a favor? I really need some things that give my home a more office-y feel. A guy has to surround himself with things he feels comfortable with, you know?

I don’t like to think of myself as too picky, so anything that would be at home in an office is good for me. Printers! Plants! Fax machines! Coffee makers! The sky is the limit... I think.

Hey, island friends! It’s Audie! I’m a fashionable gal, and I could really use some spiffy new items to totes bring some excitement to my wardrobe! And my home! Dresses, hats, bags, socks and shoes, and furniture... whatever it is, if you think it’s stylish, I TOTALLY would love to take it off your hands! Just make sure it’s fun and fashionable, okay?

Okay! Here goes!

[Serval starts to hum something, pulling out the frying pan and clanging it for percussion.]

Like that! I dunno if I'm good at it, but it's fun anyway.

[ After listening, Laurent starts playing the upbeat song on the piano, though he frequently stops because of a wrong note, but eventually gets to the end. Then he plays it from the start all the way through. ]

As long as you have fun, it's fine. Was it something like this?

[clap clap clap] You're really good at this! How did you learn all these things?

[ Hm... how should he say this without making it too complicated... ]

I had a friend who liked music a lot. It was how he made his living and his life revolved around it. I thought that maybe, if I could play like him, I could understand why he liked music so much and always played music like his life depended on it.

[ He plays a softer melody that almost sounds muted. ]

Though, I'll never know now.

Why not? I think you can play really well, so doesn't that mean you can understand it?

It's one thing to copy someone, but it's harder to copy their intentions and emotions behind something. Let's say... I tossed a ring in front of you and you pounce to grab at it. When you do, you're excited because you want to play. If I tossed a ring in front of someone like Joonghyuk and he just grabs it with that scary look on his face because he didn't like it when I tossed a ring in front of him--it's kinda like that. You're both grabbing the ring, but the reason why and how you react to it are completely different.

I guess you're right, huh... I know! Maybe if you think about other things your friend liked and reasons he said for those, then you can understand him more with how he thought about music!

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent laughs a little. ]

You think so? My friend was actually pretty grumpy, had horrible social skills, didn't get along with most people nor animals... actually, it was as if music was the only thing he had. I did ask him once about why he liked it so much and he just replied with a crude joke.

[ Serval... doesn't need to know dirty jokes. ]

He's off in a place where I can't reach him anymore.

[sugooooooooi]

[Isn't everyone, though, given we've been isekaied?

Even so, Serval does know enough death euphemisms to nod sadly and nuzzle Laurent's side like a cat.]

Maybe he thought he could understand music better than people. Or because he knew what he was good at, he thought it was good to focus on that.

[conceptualize]

[ In response to the nuzzle, he lightly pats her head. ]

Yeah, he really would be the kind of guy to go all in into something he was good at, because he would believe he wasn't good at anything else.

[ Laurent "all my friends are dead" Heath has gotten used to it... or so he'd like to tell himself. It's fine, it's fine. ]

But sometimes I wondered if there was something more to it... but you know what? You're probably right. That guy's too simple.
