The Meteor Shower

On Monday, there are, in your mailboxes, passports for those who happened to not pick them up when the airport opened. Hold onto these--they’re important, after all! Open them up, and you’ll find not only a title, your name, and your hometown, but you’ll also find…

A blank page? That’s right. There’s a page in the back of the admittedly small passport with only one thing on it: a space that looks like it has room for a star stamp. Huh. That’s strange, isn’t it? There are no hints as to what it could be about, but maybe the announcement will shed some light.

There’s also, like last week, a familiar face around the island… it’s Audie! Come around to her house to say hi--she’s very excited to be here, and very fashionably dressed as she strolls around the island.

And like clockwork, at nine AM, Tom Nook makes his announcement once more:

“Good morning, Isla Sonrisa! A few things this morning. Please give a warm welcome to our new neighbor, Audie!”

Audie smiles and waves at you all with both paws--she’s pretty flattered at the warm response. Tom Nook continues--

“We have for you the ability to build bridges now! Yes, yes, these will prove very useful indeed. Of course, you will most likely have to work together to figure out the best places to put these bridges, as we have only a limited number… But I am sure working together will be little trouble for you all! The only thing to note is that each bridge will come with a construction fee of 15,000 bells each. Consider working together to get some bridges up and running...?”

He pauses, and the next part comes with some measure of almost… not quite dismay, but there’s a certain cloud over the tanuki: “It also seems Iori and Mira have also left the island… Again, we’re looking into it, and should any discoveries come to light, I will tell you immediately.”

He nods to himself, and continues on--

“Next, I’d like to tell you all we have a very special event tonight… a meteor shower! Yes, yes, starting at 7 PM, we will have clear skies and many stars to wish upon. Who knows--maybe your wishes will all come true!” He says that with a bright smile, almost like he really believes it… Or maybe that’s just his quiet optimism? Anyway, he continues--

“Finally, I’d like to thank you all for your hard work in making items for our new friends! Yes, yes, you all have been working so hard to create furniture and items for our housing plots, but this week, I invite you all to put your best DIY skills to the test! There are no specific style requirements in mind, but please make sure our potential new friend has:

1 Table
2 Dressers
1 Clock
2 Chairs

Of course, if you’d like to make more, I am sure our friend will not be opposed…” He pauses, and seems to remember something! “Ah, yes, we are very close to opening our museum… I am sure Blathers would appreciate any bugs, fish, or fossils regardless! Hmm… Yes, that is all I have for you! Thank you once more for your hard work, and have a wonderful day!”




Possible Objectives

1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the last villager house.
2. Donate more specimens to Blathers.
3. Attend the meteor shower, if you so desire. There may be some secrets waiting for you...
4. Make a money pool for some bridges.

[ Minato gives Laurent a look— the same one he'd shot Laurent over asking him to end something for him. ]

I would have ended my life. I wouldn't be anywhere.

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent vaguely had that feeling, but to hear Minato actually say it feels different. It makes sense with what he said earlier, and for that, he looks back at Minato evenly for a moment before looking back up at the sky. There is no shooting star at the moment, but Laurent opens his mouth anyway. ]

Then I'll make a wish for both of us to achieve what we want before death comes for us.

[ He can't help but huff in response to that. Humans are inherently greedy, and there would be no end to what they want- it's an impossible wish from the start, but maybe that's what shooting stars are for. ]

Death's already come. He's been right by my side ever since I was little... So this isn't the sort of wish I'd leave up to a burnt out star. A wish like this... if I want it to come true, I gotta do it myself. That's what it feels like.

[conceptualize]

It's true. There are people who think like that and know that wishing on a falling rock in space won't inherently change anything, but it helps build a conviction. Though... I suppose you didn't need that in the first place.

[ ... ]

Wishes have always been something we have to grant ourselves. So let's do our best from now on.

[ That's how it is. He only ever wishes for things he know can't come true. Anything else, he's got to do it himself. Going home and kicking ass is one of those impossible things, but look at him now... ]

That's for both of us. Would you blood swear on it?

[conceptualize]

Yeah, I'll do it.

[ ...

Laurent gets out a boxcutter from his toolbox that he also whips out from his pocket. ]

[ Minato holds out his left hand. ]

[conceptualize]

[ God... was it Recolle or something that Minato did this, because Laurent is definitely not going to stab through Minato's palm for this. He just makes a small prick on his fingertip and does the same with his own. ]

[compendiem]

[ lmfao god I miss Recolle and Minato cutting his own hand and slicing off Naegi's toes.

It's not really enough blood to be very cool, but Minato takes Laurent's hand in his anyways, thinks about it, and spits on the back of Laurent's hand for good measure. Maybe he's getting oaths mixed up, but there was spit involved sometimes, he's pretty sure. ]

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent makes a face when Minato spits on the back of his hand, wondering if he's mistaking a kiss on the back of a hand for something else, because while he isn't very knowledgeable on this topic, he's pretty sure... there isn't something like that, because he thought that was a sign of disrespect.

Nevertheless, he does the same even if it feels kinda gross lmao ]

[ It's pretty gross, and Minato takes his hand back and immediately wipes it off on the side of his pants. ]

We're good. If you break your promise, I gotta cut my hand again and wipe it on your face instead.

[ He thinks this is how it goes. ]

How about you just punch me instead?

[ He'd rather take a punch than having spit wiped on his face, to be honest. Laurent gets out a pack of medicine and applies it to Minato's hand. Instant healing! He does the same for his own hand too. It's pretty much like a cure-all. ]

What's the fun in punching people...

[ He'd rather smear gross bodily fluids across people's faces. He sits still, though, and lets Laurent heal his hand with the medicine, thinking nothing of instant healing items. ]

I wonder if I can take this stuff back... It'd be handy 'cause I'm going to get beat up a lot once I'm home again.

[conceptualize]

Punching people can be fun, especially if it's someone you don't like.

[ Knock them dead. ]

We can try when we go back. Just smuggle them into your dimensional pockets.

[ Dimensional pockets are also sort of a thing back home, so Minato decides not to think too much on it- it's the other part that has him looking confusedly at Laurent. ]

I don't have anybody I don't like.

[ The closest he'd ever been to killing a person was somebody he considered a friend, even. ]

[ Maybe Minato is a good-natured guy. Maybe the ravages of apathy had stolen most of his hateful emotions. Either way, Laurent thinks it's nice in a way, to just drift. ]

That's a good energy saver, considering you don't seem to have much.

Hey, yeah I do.

[ And to prove his point, he raises one of his empty energy cans in a toast. Don't have enough energy? Liquid is okay too. ]

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent looks at the can, then down at the rest of the cans. Then he looks back at Minato. ]

I thought you liked sleeping?

[ ??? ]

Yeah, I do. But people say I sleep too much... and I wanted to stay awake for the meteor shower. I wanted to watch it with Kaede.

[ It's fine. This many energy drinks will bring him up to a level of consciousness comparable to the general populace. Just with a heartbeat facing so fast it feels like it skips and flutters sometimes. ]

[conceptualize]

[ Oh, yeah. That's cute. He'll let it slide, but he's still kinda worried about Minato's heart rate. He doesn't need to confirm it to know either... he's made that mistake when he was an undergrad before. ]

Was it nice? And I'll watch over you in case you fall into the ocean or something.

[compendiem]

I made her cry...

[ WAS IT NICE he doesn't know, but in his experience, he is good at making people angry and making them cry. ]

I don't think I'll fall, though. Unless I drop dead of a heart attack or something...

[ That's feeling more plausible by the minute; the caffeine doesn't exactly wear off, so much as he can just feel it more and more keenly with his stomach emptying until there's nothing left to sustain him by jittery nerves. ]

That's exactly what I'm worried about.

[ Look at all these cans!! Anyway... ]

Why did you make her cry?

[compendiem]

[ If he's going to drop dead, why bother catching him? Let him have a water burial. ]

It's not like I wanted to... I was just being myself. I'm that sort of person.

[conceptualize]

[ Laurent thinks of how Kaede is... and for her to cry... he can't think of a reason why, and it's not like Minato would have a reason to talk shit about people that Kaede cared about. Besides, they're friends, and... oh. ]

You guys talked about something sad and you didn't mean for her to cry, right?

[compendiem]

[ Minato has no reason to talk shit but sometimes it happens... But Kaede's not somebody he'd talk shit about, not her friends who he only knows as poor victims of a killing game. ]

Yeah... Something like that. We talked about our lives here, and our lives back home. About the future. About how I shouldn't drink coffee on top of all these energy drinks.

[ But he did anyways. ]
