Week 4

WEEK 4 LOG
Weather: Monday AM & PM - Clear Skies; Tuesday - Thursday AM Cloudy, PM Rainy; Friday - Clear Skies

    The Meteor Shower

On Monday, there are, in your mailboxes, passports for those who happened to not pick them up when the airport opened. Hold onto these--they’re important, after all! Open them up, and you’ll find not only a title, your name, and your hometown, but you’ll also find…

A blank page? That’s right. There’s a page in the back of the admittedly small passport with only one thing on it: a space that looks like it has room for a star stamp. Huh. That’s strange, isn’t it? There are no hints as to what it could be about, but maybe the announcement will shed some light.

There’s also, like last week, a familiar face around the island… it’s Audie! Come around to her house to say hi--she’s very excited to be here, and very fashionably dressed as she strolls around the island.

And like clockwork, at nine AM, Tom Nook makes his announcement once more:

“Good morning, Isla Sonrisa! A few things this morning. Please give a warm welcome to our new neighbor, Audie!”

Audie smiles and waves at you all with both paws--she’s pretty flattered at the warm response. Tom Nook continues--

“We have for you the ability to build bridges now! Yes, yes, these will prove very useful indeed. Of course, you will most likely have to work together to figure out the best places to put these bridges, as we have only a limited number… But I am sure working together will be little trouble for you all! The only thing to note is that each bridge will come with a construction fee of 15,000 bells each. Consider working together to get some bridges up and running...?”

He pauses, and the next part comes with some measure of almost… not quite dismay, but there’s a certain cloud over the tanuki: “It also seems Iori and Mira have also left the island… Again, we’re looking into it, and should any discoveries come to light, I will tell you immediately.”

He nods to himself, and continues on--

“Next, I’d like to tell you all we have a very special event tonight… a meteor shower! Yes, yes, starting at 7 PM, we will have clear skies and many stars to wish upon. Who knows--maybe your wishes will all come true!” He says that with a bright smile, almost like he really believes it… Or maybe that’s just his quiet optimism? Anyway, he continues--

“Finally, I’d like to thank you all for your hard work in making items for our new friends! Yes, yes, you all have been working so hard to create furniture and items for our housing plots, but this week, I invite you all to put your best DIY skills to the test! There are no specific style requirements in mind, but please make sure our potential new friend has:

    1 Table
    2 Dressers
    1 Clock
    2 Chairs

Of course, if you’d like to make more, I am sure our friend will not be opposed…” He pauses, and seems to remember something! “Ah, yes, we are very close to opening our museum… I am sure Blathers would appreciate any bugs, fish, or fossils regardless! Hmm… Yes, that is all I have for you! Thank you once more for your hard work, and have a wonderful day!”

    Possible Objectives

    1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the last villager house.
    2. Donate more specimens to Blathers.
    3. Attend the meteor shower, if you so desire. There may be some secrets waiting for you...
    4. Make a money pool for some bridges.

    Turn-Ins
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

(OOC: Welcome to Week 4! Please direct all questions to the FAQ.

No, what was she giving out? Bugs?

[ Also weird, also would get the coffee taste out ]
sugooooooooi: Scared gasp, looking sideways. (no way)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
No, baking! Which I think is like cooking, but I don't know the difference yet.

Hmm... I think baking is when you stick something in an oven and walk away. Cooking is when you use a stove, and have to stand there to make sure things don't catch on fire.
sugooooooooi: Smiling at something ahead. (my favourite thing)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Okay! I guess they make different things, too, huh?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-23 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
They make different things, but you can bake and cook the same things... they just turn out different. I think.

[ Like tossing a bug into the oven and it turns out toasty. But if you toss it into a frying pan, it gets crunchy. ]

I don't really cook, or bake... Iori was getting on my case about that, before.
sugooooooooi: A concerned look. (pic#14113404)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
I guess, because you got sick of apples... I don't do those things either. Though when Kaban-chan made curry rice, I got to cut the vegetables! I just sliced them all up with my claws. It was kind of fun!

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-23 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ Is that sanitary-- ]

That's pretty much the hardest part done, I think... All you gotta do after is toss everything in a pan and watch it cook. So even though you don't cook a lot, I bet you can.
sugooooooooi: Fretting over something. (gulp)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Fire's pretty scary, though. Humans can get up close and handle it, but I couldn't do something like that. That's okay, though! I have things I'm good at, so it all works out.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-23 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
... Are you very scared of fire?

[ He'd offer to help her get more used to it, but on the other hand, that'd involved having to create a small, controlled fire himself.

And he's still a couple pieces short of getting Laurent to make him a flamethrower. ]
sugooooooooi: Scared, hands to her face. (hlep)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Uh-huh. I like staying far away from it. I think most people are! Although all of you get kind of close to it, and Kaban-chan can get close up too. Maybe it's a human thing! The only other Friend I know who isn't scared is Brown Bear-san.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-23 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Huh... I think, at least when we're kids, the human instinct is to reach out and touch fire. Maybe we're just stupid like that.

[ Of course the norm is to be afraid of it. How human it is so be drawn to danger. ]

But it can be warm and bright. You can roast yams in it. If a fire is small enough, like a candle, you can even pass your finger right through it and it won't hurt.
sugooooooooi: Excited, victorious. (mcdonald's mcdonald's mcdonald's)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Really? It still sounds scary to me. Do you think we can get yams?

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-23 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
[ Are there yams in the grocery store... He doesn't know. It's not like he's ever looked at groceries to know what's there, he just goes straight for the snacks and drinks and frozen takoyaki. ]

I don't know. Maybe there's some in the store. If not, other things can be roasted. Want to try?
sugooooooooi: Standing around. (now what)

[personal profile] sugooooooooi 2020-07-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Sure! Even if I don't think I could cook, I can try anyway.

[personal profile] compendiem 2020-07-24 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
There's gotta be something hard to burn. We'll find it.

[ Fingers crossed for marshmallow, I want there to be marshmallows so I'm going to say they're in the grocery store so that after they gather up one of every little thing in the store and build a fire, Minato can stick a marshmallow on it and it immediately catches on fire and he stares at the flames until it goes completely black because the best way to eat marshmallows is charred beyond recognition. ]
