Week 4

WEEK 4 LOG
Weather: Monday AM & PM - Clear Skies; Tuesday - Thursday AM Cloudy, PM Rainy; Friday - Clear Skies

    The Meteor Shower

On Monday, there are, in your mailboxes, passports for those who happened to not pick them up when the airport opened. Hold onto these--they’re important, after all! Open them up, and you’ll find not only a title, your name, and your hometown, but you’ll also find…

A blank page? That’s right. There’s a page in the back of the admittedly small passport with only one thing on it: a space that looks like it has room for a star stamp. Huh. That’s strange, isn’t it? There are no hints as to what it could be about, but maybe the announcement will shed some light.

There’s also, like last week, a familiar face around the island… it’s Audie! Come around to her house to say hi--she’s very excited to be here, and very fashionably dressed as she strolls around the island.

And like clockwork, at nine AM, Tom Nook makes his announcement once more:

“Good morning, Isla Sonrisa! A few things this morning. Please give a warm welcome to our new neighbor, Audie!”

Audie smiles and waves at you all with both paws--she’s pretty flattered at the warm response. Tom Nook continues--

“We have for you the ability to build bridges now! Yes, yes, these will prove very useful indeed. Of course, you will most likely have to work together to figure out the best places to put these bridges, as we have only a limited number… But I am sure working together will be little trouble for you all! The only thing to note is that each bridge will come with a construction fee of 15,000 bells each. Consider working together to get some bridges up and running...?”

He pauses, and the next part comes with some measure of almost… not quite dismay, but there’s a certain cloud over the tanuki: “It also seems Iori and Mira have also left the island… Again, we’re looking into it, and should any discoveries come to light, I will tell you immediately.”

He nods to himself, and continues on--

“Next, I’d like to tell you all we have a very special event tonight… a meteor shower! Yes, yes, starting at 7 PM, we will have clear skies and many stars to wish upon. Who knows--maybe your wishes will all come true!” He says that with a bright smile, almost like he really believes it… Or maybe that’s just his quiet optimism? Anyway, he continues--

“Finally, I’d like to thank you all for your hard work in making items for our new friends! Yes, yes, you all have been working so hard to create furniture and items for our housing plots, but this week, I invite you all to put your best DIY skills to the test! There are no specific style requirements in mind, but please make sure our potential new friend has:

    1 Table
    2 Dressers
    1 Clock
    2 Chairs

Of course, if you’d like to make more, I am sure our friend will not be opposed…” He pauses, and seems to remember something! “Ah, yes, we are very close to opening our museum… I am sure Blathers would appreciate any bugs, fish, or fossils regardless! Hmm… Yes, that is all I have for you! Thank you once more for your hard work, and have a wonderful day!”

    Possible Objectives

    1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the last villager house.
    2. Donate more specimens to Blathers.
    3. Attend the meteor shower, if you so desire. There may be some secrets waiting for you...
    4. Make a money pool for some bridges.

    Turn-Ins
    Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday / Friday

[ She smiles back. Part of her thinks maybe she shouldn't ask the glove but... it can be better to talk about these things sometimes. ]

Did you just get that glove?

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I, uh, yeah. I mean...well, Sengoku had received it, but it's mine. Well, it's not my glove, but I'd been carrying it around before here.

[He'd been low key worried about its location this whole time, honestly.]

Sengoku-kun got something from your world too?

[ She pulls a cap out of her pocket so Ren can see it. It's mostly a plain black cap, but there are stripes on the back. ]

Who did that glove belong to?
jokersonyou: (48)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-23 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, what do you know. That's a coincidence.

[There's a little chuckle there, but he looks back at the glove.]

It... Someone I knew. A friend, sort of. At least, I considered him one, even if things were incredibly complicated.

[ She looks down at the glove as well. ]

How was it complicated? [ She pauses. ] Ah, you don't have to tell me. I'm just curious.

[For several moments, he's silent. Even around his close friends, he'd never been incredibly...open about himself, exactly. It wasn't always particularly a conscious decision to hold back in those regards, but more often than not, it was his friends doing the sharing and the talking, with him as the soundboard and the guy to help them through their issues. They were all going through enough that he didn't want to pile on his own issues on top of it all, so he usually kept things that affected him this deeply to himself.

And yet, he felt as if right now, it wouldn't be so bad to open up. Maybe it's because they're so far from home, trapped in a different world, completely far removed from the situation. Maybe it's easier to talk to someone who isn't caught up in it all as well. Because honestly, he doesn't feel like he could really talk to his friends about this, all things considered, as much as he loves them and he knows they love him.]

His name was Akechi. Goro Akechi. The second coming of Japan's "Detective Prince", but almost no one knew the real him. It... Mm, it's hard to explain without getting into all of the details of my year in Tokyo. All that stuff that ended up with me killing a god, and all that. The thing with it, though, was that me and him? We were chosen by that god for similar purposes. Two pawns in a game. The only thing was, when I awakened my powers and got thrust into that whole world, I had a guide and friends. He didn't. Combine that with the absolutely shitty life he'd had, and we went very different ways.

[He chews absently at the corner of his lip.]

I won't be sentimental and say he was a good person. He'd done terrible, terrible things. He'd killed, he'd caused the deaths of parents of two separate friends of mine, he'd even literally tried to put a bullet through my brain. I don't know if I'll ever forgive him for the things he's done. The horrible life he'd lived up until then isn't an excuse for it, but I just... It's stupid, but I just... Even with it all, even when I realized he was just putting on a show and pretending when we first became acquainted, I still considered him a friend. Even now, I...

[ The mention of a "Detective Prince" pulls at her a little, and she clutches onto the cap in her hand.

Kaede had never known someone like Akechi though, hadn't even thought it was possible to have such a complicated relationship. Being chosen by a god as a pawn? That's way out of her depth, but it's still obvious to her that Ren considered him a friend, despite everything.

She reaches out to rest a hand on his arm. ]

You still care about him, right?

[ At least, that's what it seems like to her. ]

It sounds like you've been through a lot together, so of course you would want to think of him as a friend. [ She pauses. ] I don't think it's stupid, by the way. I would probably feel the same way.

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-23 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He takes a deep breath, glancing to where her hand rests on his arm.]

...Yeah. Yeah, I do. He ultimately...sacrificed himself for us. I still clung to the hope that he'd come back, and he did--sort of, but even that was complicated in itself. And then I lost him. Again.

[His gaze returns to the glove, now clenched tightly in his hand.]

He challenged me to a duel, once. I won, but we'd have a rematch. This glove was a promise of that. But I just...even if logic points to him being gone, even if I should hate him for all the things he's done, all I want is to see his stupid smug face again. I could never really see him as an enemy.
spiritoso: (80)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2020-07-23 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's anything wrong with hoping to see him again. You have evidence of the promise too, so he has to come back!

[ Sometimes that hope can keep one going. ]
jokersonyou: (77)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-23 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Kaede... So bright, so hopeful. And honestly, what he needs right now. He lets out a near-watery laugh, rubbing at his eyes.]

You know what, you're right. He's too stubborn to just let himself die. And he'd never let a chance at beating me in a rematch go. I'm sure I'll see him again one day.
spiritoso: (48)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2020-07-23 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She smiles, taking her hand back. ]

You will! [ She pauses. ] I know it's hard to keep hoping, especially when it's someone you care about. But I think it's worth it.
jokersonyou: (59)

[personal profile] jokersonyou 2020-07-24 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... It is. No use in giving up hope. ...Thanks, Kaede. I think I feel better about this all now.
spiritoso: (02)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2020-07-24 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad! Sometimes even just talking things out can help.

Make sure you hold onto that glove!
