The Meteor Shower

On Monday, there are, in your mailboxes, passports for those who happened to not pick them up when the airport opened. Hold onto these--they’re important, after all! Open them up, and you’ll find not only a title, your name, and your hometown, but you’ll also find…

A blank page? That’s right. There’s a page in the back of the admittedly small passport with only one thing on it: a space that looks like it has room for a star stamp. Huh. That’s strange, isn’t it? There are no hints as to what it could be about, but maybe the announcement will shed some light.

There’s also, like last week, a familiar face around the island… it’s Audie! Come around to her house to say hi--she’s very excited to be here, and very fashionably dressed as she strolls around the island.

And like clockwork, at nine AM, Tom Nook makes his announcement once more:

“Good morning, Isla Sonrisa! A few things this morning. Please give a warm welcome to our new neighbor, Audie!”

Audie smiles and waves at you all with both paws--she’s pretty flattered at the warm response. Tom Nook continues--

“We have for you the ability to build bridges now! Yes, yes, these will prove very useful indeed. Of course, you will most likely have to work together to figure out the best places to put these bridges, as we have only a limited number… But I am sure working together will be little trouble for you all! The only thing to note is that each bridge will come with a construction fee of 15,000 bells each. Consider working together to get some bridges up and running...?”

He pauses, and the next part comes with some measure of almost… not quite dismay, but there’s a certain cloud over the tanuki: “It also seems Iori and Mira have also left the island… Again, we’re looking into it, and should any discoveries come to light, I will tell you immediately.”

He nods to himself, and continues on--

“Next, I’d like to tell you all we have a very special event tonight… a meteor shower! Yes, yes, starting at 7 PM, we will have clear skies and many stars to wish upon. Who knows--maybe your wishes will all come true!” He says that with a bright smile, almost like he really believes it… Or maybe that’s just his quiet optimism? Anyway, he continues--

“Finally, I’d like to thank you all for your hard work in making items for our new friends! Yes, yes, you all have been working so hard to create furniture and items for our housing plots, but this week, I invite you all to put your best DIY skills to the test! There are no specific style requirements in mind, but please make sure our potential new friend has:

1 Table
2 Dressers
1 Clock
2 Chairs

Of course, if you’d like to make more, I am sure our friend will not be opposed…” He pauses, and seems to remember something! “Ah, yes, we are very close to opening our museum… I am sure Blathers would appreciate any bugs, fish, or fossils regardless! Hmm… Yes, that is all I have for you! Thank you once more for your hard work, and have a wonderful day!”




Possible Objectives

1. Help Tom Nook prepare a housing plot for the last villager house.
2. Donate more specimens to Blathers.
3. Attend the meteor shower, if you so desire. There may be some secrets waiting for you...
4. Make a money pool for some bridges.

[Scintilla went about her day a little uneasily; she was tense following the announcement, though she focused herself more on fishing than anything else. When it wasn't a forge, the brick oven served its intended purpose--she only overcooked a few of them, even.]

[But when night rolled around and the first few stars streaked across the sky, she looked unreasonably stressed out, tail bristling as she quickly retreated back to the house and closed the blinds.]

[It's fine.]

[She's fine.]

Well at least there's no actual meteor in the sky

[While his attention during the meteor shower has largely been enraptured by the falling stars, he can't help but notice Scintilla turning heel and marching right back to her house. It doesn't seem quite like her (and she did seem a little off throughout the day), so after a bit, he goes over to the house and knocks lightly on the door.]

...aye, what is it?

[Just...gonna crack the door open a little.]

I just wanted to check up on you. You seemed a little off today and just now, so I couldn't help but be a little worried.

[lightsmith]

Me? I'm fine.

[. . .]

Is...everything okay out there?

[jokersonyou]

[Uh huh. Sure. Totally fine.]

It is. Everyone's just standing around making wishes on the stars.

[lightsmith]

...Doing what, sorry?

[ARE YOU PEOPLE MAD]

Making wishes. It's kind of a tradition that seems to be across a lot of worlds. Wish on a falling star. It's more of a gesture than anything. I mean, at least in my world, stars don't have the power to grant wishes. Who knows on others, but...

[He's definitely confused as to the problem.]

[lightsmith]

...mm. Guess it makes sense enough that it's not... [She trailed off, however that sentence was supposed to end continuing only in her head. Ears pinned back, slit pupils a little too wide, and just generally uneasy, she opened the door a little further.]

Sorry. Last time I saw a starshower was- [Fucking Elidibus. Not that that one really counted.]

...Wasn't good.

I see...

[Well, he's still confused, but he'd like to understand.]

Is it okay if I come in? Feels kind of awkward standing in your doorway like I'm trying to sign you up for a newsletter.

[lightsmith]

Uh...sure. Ain't just my house, anyway, so it'd be kind of odd to shut anybody out like I owned the place.

[She opened the door the rest of the way and stepped back, tail swaying restlessly.]

[jokersonyou]

Well, you co-own it, so it's still in your right. Thanks, though.

[He walks into the house, stretching a little before facing her again.]

I'm curious about what you've experienced, but I don't want to force you to talk about it either.

[lightsmith]

No, it's fine. [She rubbed the back of her neck, frowning.] I've been to another world before, but it's still hard to remember you wouldn't know--back at home in Eorzea and across the planet, everyone knows about the Calamities. Hell, damn near everyone saw the last one, so a starshower'd more than likely set anybody on edge.

[Even if none of them had the slightest idea of the full reason behind it.]

Calamities? Well, that doesn't...sound fun. I assume starshowers were part of it?

[Frown.]

[lightsmith]

...Last one was only a few years ago, Five, six, I'unno, I've kind of lost track of time a bit.

[how long are expacs really we just don't know]

Empire went n' dropped an ancient Allagan magitek device at the Battle of Carteneau. Basically pulled a red moon from the sky. Stars fallin', the sky lookin' to split apart, and this big glowin' bastard fallin' to Eorzea. Then it cracked open--was a prison for a huge dragon primal, Bahamut. Got sealed away and dealt with, but...world's never the same after a Calamity, and that one was the Seventh.

[Her eyes had gone back to normal, tail still bristling and ears alert for anything out of the ordinary.]

...S'more to it; fallin' stars are a sight what triggers a latent power in some folks. They hear a voice in their heads, and get a power called the Echo.

[Ren takes in everything she's saying, and though he really doesn't understand much at all of it (empire? Allagans? Bahamut?), it's obviously not good stuff. For that, he can empathize.]

I don't need to get what all those names mean to know those're some seriously Bad Things that've happened. My own world almost befell a pretty awful fate, but even with the craziness of that, what you're saying sounds... Well, oof, to say the least.

[Bad enough for some big moon to fall then open up to be a grumpy dragon. But for something like that to have happened seven times so far?]

What's the Echo?

[lightsmith]

Lot of things, really. [From the look on her face, she didn't quite know know to explain it.] Mostly it's the power to see things--usually flashes of past memory, sometimes brief flickers of the future a couple seconds ahead, manifests in a lot of ways I don't really get.

[jokersonyou]

That's some power. It doesn't look like the stars here are doing that sort of thing, though. I mean, I feel pretty normal.

[Normal as he ever is, really.]

The ones here... They don't seem to be dangerous. I can definitely understand now why they unnerve you, though.

[sugooooooooi]

[Serval isn't fishing, per se, just kind of pawing at the water like she usually does.]

You're really good at getting fish.

[lightsmith]

Huh?

[She looked up, then to the small pile of fish next to her like she just realized it was there.]

Oh...hm. Wonder how I pulled that one off.

[sugooooooooi]

[Serval tilts her head.] Are you okay? I guess it's kind of scary.

[lightsmith]

Scary? Don't know what you mean.

[nope we're all good here, just fishin' and dreading nightfall]

You can take some of these, if you want.

[sugooooooooi]

[She looks at the fish and takes a few. This inventory system is pretty useful once you get the hang of it.]

Like how Iori-chan and Mira-chan are gone, and lots more, too. You don't really think there's a monster here, do you?

[lightsmith]

...Nah. Feel like I'd know if there were, least I hope I would.

Guessin' they got called back somehow.
